CHAIRMAN’S REPORT
Canadian Livestock Records Corporation had a successful year in 2007. The volume of business in 2007 allowed
CLRC to continue to provide timely service while maintaining and improving systems.
At the end of 2007 the border to the United States finally opened after being closed for 4 1/2 years due to BSE. This
has allowed breeders to finally start to rebuild the export market for their Canadian genetics. The rules for exporting
to the US vary from state to state so breeders should be careful to make sure they know the health requirements of
the state where they are exporting. This good news was offset by higher feed prices and lower prices for meat
products which of course will affect the demand for breeding stock. Another factor affecting the sale of breeding
stock to the US is the high value of the Canadian dollar. In spite of these challenges we have seen exports to the
USA, Europe and Russia.
There are many challenges facing registered seed stock producers. At CLRC the Board of Directors and the CLRC
staff have worked to improve efficiencies while reducing costs. I believe the decisions taken over the past year and
plans being put in place will allow CLRC to continue to grow and develop the services we provide. We have just
added new computers so that the registrars can continue to process work in an efficient and timely fashion. We are
very pleased with the short turn around time we have been able to maintain.
CLRC provides one of the most respected registry services in the world. It is the goal of the current Board and the
CLRC staff to continue to enhance and increase the services provided to the membership. If you have any ideas or
suggestions on how to improve or enhance the services provided by CLRC please contact myself, a director, or Ron
Black. I would also encourage members to make use of the many services offered, such as Marketplace, online
registrations, the electronic herd book, French translation and many other services. I would like to take this
opportunity to let members know about the reduced cost of Marketplace and the value it offers members as another
way to advertise their breeding programs.
CLRC has been fortunate to have many long term staff that are committed employees. In 2008 we have a registrar
retiring, Jane Davy. Jane has provided CLRC with many years of exceptional service and we wish her all the best in
her retirement.
I would like to thank Ron Black, our General Manager, and the rest of the CLRC staff for their commitment and
hard work. I would also like to thank the Board of Directors for their time and dedication, and the guidance that they
offer to CLRC.
It will continue to be the focus of CLRC to deliver registration services in an efficient and accurate way for our
Members.

L’année 2006 était un grand succès pour la Société canadienne d’enregistrement des animaux. Le volume de
travail en 2006 a permis à la SCEA d’ajouter un petit montant au fonds de réserve, et ce en partie, grâce aux
bourses fournies à nos associations membres via le Programme visant à préserver la qualité génétique des
ruminants.
Au cours des dernières années, les producteurs de sujets de race ont fait face à plusieurs défis. Tout en
respectant ces difficultés dans l’industrie, la SCEA et les employés de cette dernière travaillent sans cesse à
améliorer l’efficacité et le service tout en réduisant les coûts. Je crois que les décisions prises au cours de la
dernière année et les plans à venir permettront la croissance de la SCEA et le développement des services
qu’elle peut offrir.
La SCEA fourni un service de registre sans pareil. Le but du Conseil d’administration actuel et des employés
de la SCEA est de rehausser et augmenter les services disponibles aux associations membres. Si vous avez des
idées ou suggestions, n’hésitez pas de communiquer avec moi, un des administrateurs ou Ron Black.
Je vous encourage tous d’utiliser les services qui sont offerts par la SCEA – le Marketplace, service
d’enregistrement électronique, livres généalogiques électroniques, analyses ADN des équidés par l’entremise de
Maxxam Analytics Inc., analyses ADN des bovins par l’entremise des Laboratoires Bova-Can, services de
traduction, etc. Veuillez noter que le frais d’inscription au Marketplace a été réduit – il s’agit d’un outil de
promotion exceptionnel.
La SCEA a accepté d’autres associations comme membre et d’autres en seront ajoutées en 2007. La SCEA est
chanceuse d’avoir plusieurs employés dévoués, et ce, à long terme. À la fin 2006, Dianne Lance a pris sa
retraite après plusieurs (45, en fait!) années de services. Nous la souhaitons une bonne retraite!
Je désire remercier Ron Black, notre Gérant général, et les employés de la SCEA pour leur dévouement et leurs
efforts. Je désire également remercier le Conseil d’administration pour leur temps et dévouement, et pour la
direction qu’ils offrent à la SCEA.
La SCEA continuera dans ses efforts pour être le leader de services de registre précis et efficace, au Canada et
ailleurs au monde.

RAPPORT DE LA PRÉSIDENTE
L’année 2007 était un succès pour la Société canadienne d’enregistrement des animaux. Le volume de travail
en 2007 a permis à la SCEA de continuer de fournir un service efficace tout en améliorant leurs systèmes.
À la fin de 2007, les frontières américaines sont finalement ouvertes après avoir été fermées pendant 4 ans et
demi à cause de l’ESB. Cette réouverture a permis aux producteurs de rebâtir les marchés d’exportation de
génétiques canadiennes. Les règlements d’exportation varient d’état en état alors les éleveurs doivent s’assurer
des règlements de santé de l’état en question avant d’en exporter des animaux. Cette bonne nouvelle a été
compenser par une augmentation dans le prix de la nourriture animale et la diminution dans le prix de la viande
– tous les deux affectent la demande de stock de reproduction. Un autre élément qui affect la vente de stock de
reproduction aux États-Unis est la haute valeur du dollar canadien. Malgré tous ces défis, nous avons tout de
même exportés des animaux aux États-Unis, en Europe et en Russie.
Les producteurs de stock de reproduction font face à des défis quotidiens. Le Conseil d’administration de la
SCEA ainsi que les employés de cette dernière essaient toujours d’améliorer l’efficacité tout en réduisant les
coûts. Je croix que les décisions prises au cours de la dernière année et les plans qui sont en place pour le futur
proche permettront le développement et l’expansion des services que nous offrons. Nous avons ajouté des
nouvels ordinateurs afin de permettre aux régistraires de traiter les demandes de façon plus efficace et plus
rapide. Nous sommes très fier du temps requis pour compléter les transactions.
Le service de registre fourni par la SCEA est parmi le plus respecté au monde. Le Conseil d’administration et
le personnel de la SCEA essaient toujours d’améliorer et d’augmenter le nombre de services qui sont offerts à
ses clients. Si vous avez des idées ou des suggestions, merci de communiquer avec moi, un directeur ou Ron
Black. Je vous encourage tous d’utiliser les services qui sont offerts – Le Marché, enregistrements
électroniques, livres généalogiques électroniques, traduction et plusieurs autres. Je désire profiter de cette
occasion pour vous aviser que le prix pour Le Marché a été réduit mais le service offre toujours la même qualité
de promotion pour votre élevage.
La SCEA a toujours été chanceuse d’avoir du personnel à très long terme. En 2008, une de nos régistraire
prend sa retraite – Jane Davy. Jane nous a toujours donné un service exceptionnel et nous lui offrons nos
meilleurs vœux.
Je désire remercier Ron Black, notre Gérant général, et les employés de la SCEA pour leurs efforts. Je tiens

GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am pleased to present this Annual Report of Canadian Livestock Records
Corporation for 2007. Although the volume of work processed decreased by 9% compared to 2006, there were
still many positives for the organization, and I am pleased to report that the year ended with a modest surplus as
shown in the financial statements. This is due in no small part to the leadership given by the Board of Directors
and to the diligence of the loyal CLRC staff. We were all acutely aware of the many challenges facing the
livestock breeding industry in Canada this past year, and everyone involved at CLRC was committed to
responding to those challenges in positive ways.
In summary, there were a total of 101,003 animals of all breeds registered in 2007, compared to 116, 918 in
2006. A total of 21,722 animals were transferred, compared to 22,494 in 2006. These transactions were
processed for the 11,641 members of the 51 member breed associations, 3 contract associations, and the
General Stud and Herd Book and Canadian Identification Project.
During the year, the registry for the Canadian Connemara Pony Society was implemented, and processing of
their work began mid-year.
During 2007, we continued to experience good usage of our ancillary services including the electronic herd
book, the sale of microchips, and Marketplace.
One of the positive developments referred to above was the decision by the Board of Directors and management
to embark on a program to renew the computer technologies in place at CLRC, in order to continue to provide
the level of service required and expected by our members. The architecture of the computer system now allows
for this to occur in stages, and so in the latter part of the year, new computers and monitors, with new operating
software, were purchased for all employees. This will be followed by replacement of the server in 2008.
As CLRC moves forward into 2008, the organization will also be pursuing implementation of a performance
recording capability for beef cattle, and the provision of age verification data to the Canadian Cattle
Identification Agency.
I extend my appreciation to everyone involved with CLRC during the past year for their assistance in making
our year a successful one in the face of the aforementioned challenges.

Au nom du Conseil d’administration, je suis fier de présenter ce Rapport annuel de la Société canadienne
d’enregistrement des animaux pour 2007. Malgré une diminution de 9% dans le volume de travail traité, en
comparaison avec 2006, il y a tout de même plusieurs aspects positifs pour la Société. Je suis heureux de
reporter que l’année s’est terminée avec un modeste surplus tel que détaillé dans les États financiers, et ce, en
grande partie, grâce à la direction du Conseil d’administration et à la diligence des employés de la SCEA. Nous
étions tous au courant des changements et des difficultés réels dans l’industrie au cours de la dernière année et
nous étions tous prêts à accepter ces défis de façon positive.
Il y avait un total de 101 003 animaux de toutes races enregistrés en 2007. En 2006, il y en avait 116 918. Un
total de 21 722 animaux ont été transférés. En 2006, il y en avait 22 494. Ces transactions ont été traitées pour
11 641 membres de 51 associations membres, 3 associations sous contrat, le Livre généalogique général et le
Projet d’identification canadien.
Au cours de l’année, un registre pour la Société canadienne des poneys Connemara a été développé et le
traitement de leurs données a commencé au milieu de l’année.
En 2007, plusieurs éleveurs de différentes races ont pris avantage de nos services auxiliaires tels que Le
Marché, les livres généalogiques électroniques et la vente de micro-puces.
Le Conseil d’administration et le bureau de direction de la SCEA a décidé de renouveler le système
informatique afin de continuer à fournir un service efficace et rapide à tous nos membres. L’architecture du
nouveau système informatique nous permet de renouveler en stages, alors, vers la fin de l’année, nous avons
acheté des nouvels ordinateurs pour tous les employés. Le serveur principal sera remplacé en 2008.
Avec notre progression informatique en 2008, nous espérons pouvoir développer la capacité de maintenir les
registres de performance pour les races à bœuf et de fournir des données de vérification d’âge à l’Agence
canadienne de l’identification des bovins.
