Introduction Our hydraulic punching units ALFRA Press are highly versatile, portable instruments designed for the punc hing of holes in sheet metal plates and girders. In the case of spezial applications, we are always at your disposition for further information. Treatment of high-strength or stainless steel and heavy boiler plates is not possible using this instrument in its standad version. For easy operation, the use of spring drawings or our specially adapted service boy (No. 23 160) is recommended. Three models are APS 70 40 kp/mm² 22 mm 13 mm 700 kp/mm² 70 mm 30 t 18 mm 21 kg APS 120 40 kp/mm² 24/25 mm 16 mm 700 kp/mm² 110 mm 44 t 25 mm 35 kg A) Connect the hydraulic pump with the puncher by means of the hose delivered together with the instrument. The quick coupling has to be screwed, until it locks firmly. The red protection caps should only be removed directly before connecting. B) The 5-pin cable connection has to be attached to the corresponding sockets at the pump and at the punch. C) Connect the instrument to the mains. Please verify that the instrument voltage is properly adjusted. 2. Preliminary check Having unpacked the instrument, please check it for any transport damages. If necessary, the carrier has to be informed. D) Important: Remove the yellow transport cap of the pump und replace it by the red oil vent cap supplied with the machine. 3. Installation and start up 3 E) Check the oil level. It should be at least in the upper third of the oil gauge. If the oil is not sufficient, please refill with suitable hydraulic oil (Pump is delvered with B15 VG 46). pure oil will flow out. When this procedure is finished, the screws must be tightened again correctly. Punching with air being in the machine prolongs the time per punching operation. Air should be purged whenever a new coupling or a new hose is installed, or when the punching unit has been disassembled and reassembled. F) Inserting the tool: Remove the lock nut, install the punching tool to the ram, and tighten the nut again by means of the wrench delivered with the instrument. Inserting the die: Unscrew the two set screws at the puncher and insert the die with its smaller diameter facing upwards into the machine body. Then tighten the set screws again. Tool break may be caused by lock nuts which are not correctly tightened. During tightening, the hold-down has to be turned back, else you may think the tool is adjusted correctly, but the tool will loosen and break after the adaption of the hold-down to a different material thickness. G) With the black button –START- the punching operation is started and carried out automatically. Pressing the red button -STOP- allows to stop the machine without the tool being moved back to its starting position. This feature helps for positioning of the punch to marked points. 4. Punching A) Adjust the hold-down by turning it as low as possible above the workpiece (depending on the wall thickness, 1 to 1.5 mm). B) When the tip of the punch is aligned exactly to the centering mark, press black button - START -. C) Standard instruments should be used in their strenghth- and thickness-ranges. D) In order to ens ure a longer life-time of the tool and a proper return (especially when punching oxidized surfaces), spraying of the punch by a small amount of cutting oil is recommended. E) When the hydraulic hose is disconnected after work, the hose couplings have to be protected by means of the protection caps. Pump and punching unit should only be separated if necessary. Damages of the hose during transport have to be avoided. Air purging of the punching unit - Unscrew the 8-mm-screw (part 36) from the punching body. 5. Couplings - Loosen the drain screw (part 35) for one turn. A) Our selfsealing quick couplings allow a quick and safe connection. - Push the black button. - Wait 2-3 seconds and then press the red button -STOP-. - When this procedure is repeated several times, air is purged completely, and finally B) Please clean the two couplings from dirt and dust before connecting them. 4 Example: 3,14 x D16 x T16 x 30 kg/mm² (St.37) = W = 24 mm Ø 6. Cautions for use 6.1. Pump A) The pump has to be installed in a dry room with a good ventilation. If it is used in the open air it should not be exposed to the full heat of the sun. The pump should stand as horizontally as possible. B) Please note that a long mains cable causes voltage losses that reduce the performance of the pump. In the voltage decreases by more than 10%, the required pressure of 700 kg/cm² (10.000 psi) cannot be attained. Voltage fluctuations may also prevent the motor from starting and lead to motor damages. C) Oil pressure must never been built up in the pump or the hose when there is no puncher connected. D) The ambient temperature range for operation of the pump is from –5° C to + 40° C (23° F to 104° F). Information about the correspon-ding hydraulic oil in each case is available. This formula gives the relation between the tool diameter and the maximum material thickness. If the thickness is above this value, the tool may be damaged. For materials with higher shear stresses, information is available. When punching thicker materials with low diameter tools, the height adjustment of the hold-down is essential in order to prevent tool breaking. 6.3 Using and centering long-hole tools A) Loosen the lock nut and attach the tool as follows. First the tool pin has to be inserted into the corresponding opening at the right side of the ram, see drawing below. Tighten the lock nut again by means of the wrench. The hold-down has to be adjusted correspondingly. In the state of delivery, the pumps are filled with hydraulic oil Renolin B 15 G 46. In order to prevent power losses, the maximum oil temperature should be kept below 55° C. 6.2 Puncher A) For ambient conditions, please refer to the table. B) The power range of the instrument has to be respected. The following formula is valid: D = Hole diameter T = Material thickness R = Shearing stress W = Tool diameter W = 3,14 x D x T x R B) Loosen the set screws t the bottom of both sides at the puncher body. Insert the clean die in such a way that the face with the smaller hole diameter (blank face) is facing upwards. C) Turn the die in order to align the milled slot with the set screw and tighten the set screw. The long-hole tool has to be aligned correctly with the long-hole die. Tool and die can be turned about 90°. 5 D) Before punching, check the correct clearance between tool and die. Lower the tool slowly by means of the Start/Stop-function, until the correct adjustment of tool and die can be verified. 6.4 Safety advice A) The installation area has to be sufficiently large. B) Installation on scaffolds has to be secured against falling down. C) Uncontrolled falling-out of punching waste has to be avoided. D) Regulary safety inspection for the hydraulic hose and the punch.. E) Application only for intended use. F) Respect the corresponding national norms. G) Drilling cannot be replaced by punching in every situation. H) Working place illumination has to be sufficient. I) Don't put your hands into the punching zone. Danger! J) Hydraulic hose and control cable have to be protected against damages. K) Cables have to be laid acc. to the relevant safety rules. L) Use in zones exposed to explosion hazard is forbidden. M) Kind and thickness of material acc. to manufacturer's indication. Indicated hole diameters have to be respected. 6 7. Maintenance (disassembly, cleaning and reassembly) 7.1 Puncher A) Disassembly The puncher is disassembled in the following order: a) Disconnect the instrument from the mains. Remove the instrumetn cover and loosen the nut by means of the wrench. Remove the spring. b) Disconnect the coupler plug, remove the set screw, the switch cover and the bracket (exactly in that order). . Cables should not be damaged or disconnected. c) Remove the grip, then take off the cap. d) When disassembling, take care that no oil drops onto electric parts like switches etc. During longer storage, the instrument functions have to be checked from time to time in order to prevent the drying of the seals. 7.2 Pump Cleaning and changing oil: A) Clean the pump from dust from time to time. B) Oil has to be changed after the first 50 operational hours. Thereafter it must be changed every 500 operational hours. Remove the oil drain screw at the bottom of the tank and refill fresh hydraulic oil acc. to the specifications. C) When using another oil brand, the old oil has to be removed. Never mix different sorts of oil. We recommend the following oils: Renolin B 15 VG 46 or Renolin B 10 VA 32 8. Spare parts ordering procedure The puncher and the pump should be repaired only by qualified personnel. B) Cleaning and reassembly For ordering procedure, always indicate: Clean flushing oil has to be used. Clean the puncher and make sure that there are no dirt or chips left on the packing rings and the slides. Ressambly has to be carried out in the reverse order. C) Storage If the machine is stored outdoors or in a humid place, corrosion damages will accur; this may even lead to instrument failure. If the instrument will be stored for a longer time, the punch and the die have to be removed, and the instrument has to be protected by means of a rust preventive. Important: Part number Part name Quantity desired Instrument number Year of construction 9. Other important information A) Max. operational temperature of the motor is 55° C. A voltage drop of 10% leads to a power loss of 15%. A relief valve is provided in order to protect the pump against overpressure. This valve is regulated and leaded. In the case of any unauthorized changements, the guarantee will immediately be lost. 7 11. Guarantee B) Tools and dies Different tools and dies are available, please refer to the catalogue and indicate the part number for ordering. Punching of chamfered girders has to be carried out by means of chamfered dies. 10. Within this period, all occuring falts and failures, due to defective material and workmanship, will be checked and eliminated free of charge. Merely the go- and return-transport would be at your expenses. Further claims are excluded. We make an exeption from guarantee for those machines, for which repair work was necessary because of someone's else intervention, fall, stroke, wilful damage, improper use or wrong supply voltage. When guarantee service was given for a punching unit, the term of guarantee is neither prolonged nor renewed. To assert your guarantee please send us your guarantee certificate and a copy from your invoice. We cannot compensate for repair work carried out without our authorization.
