Nathalie Dufour (V.A) For 25 years, the same imperative has been the driving force behind Andam: how to help young designers get a foothold on the international fashion scene, how to bring their work to the attention of journalists and buyers. When I found this association in 1989 under the dual supervision of the Ministry of Culture and the DEFI (Committee for the Development and Promotion of French Clothing), my goal was to position Fashion as a creative industry. At this time, the fashion shows at the cour Carrée of the Louvre were brimming with young talents. A new chapter in Parisian fashion was opening and it was important not to let it fade into the underground. The “designers” spaces in the department stores were just beginning to crack open their doors to this new generation, electrifying and full of promise. Pierre Bergé, attentive to this change and fascinated by this ebullient energy, was monitoring this evolution closely. When I asked him if he would like to serve as chairman of Andam, he accepted with a readiness that I found touching, as though the mission I was proposing were the only logical course of action. Since 1989, the jury in charge of selecting the fellowship winners has rewarded more than 80 emerging talents, helping push fashion forward by honoring names like Martin Margiela, Jeremy Scott, Christophe Lemaire, APC, Viktor & Rolf, Gareth Pugh or Iris Van Herpen, 2014 winner. Starting in 1998, private sponsors – such as, this year, Pierre Bergé Yves Saint Laurent Foundation, Fashion GPS, Galeries Lafayette, Kering, Longchamp, LVMH, MAC Cosmetics, OTB, Swarovski, Chloé, Moncler, Tomorrow London Ltd, Yves Saint Laurent began contributing their support to our project. Thanks to their loyalty and devotion, Andam have been able to reach its current scope of action
