The GENYMAB range belongs to a new
GENYMAB 400 & 900 - Broche de reprise G900 8“ - generation of multi-functional machines
offering performances of both CNC
lathe and 5-axis machining center.
Compared with traditional machining
means, this range of machines offers very
high productivity and super accuracy.
Production cycles and work-in-progress are
extremely reduced, so the production cost
is reduced a lot.

HISTORY
SOMAB invented first turning & milling
machine in the world
Twenty years ago, there is no combined
turning and milling operation on one
machine.
In 1986 SOMAB invented & developed
a really multi-functional machine which
was called POLYMAB European patented
N° 0368977 and United States patented
N° 5,052,089 (the first version of our
Genymab ). It was first presented on
the 1988’s biennial Machine-Tools
exhibition in Paris.
After experiencing continuous improvement,
our Genymab machines have been greatly
enhanced in accuracy, productivity,
programming and additional features.
Benefiting from the latest technologies and
our efforts, the GENYMAB is better than
a CNC lathe plus a machining center
in terms of performance and quality.

APPLICATIONS

GENYMAB multi-functions machining center
(or turning & milling machining center) brings
solutions to all fields of activity :
see examples of parts on this page.

GENYMAB can realize special operations
such as turning-planning, grooving, slotting,
gear shaping, etc.
Roughness of machined surfaces can even
be lower than Ra 0.2.
Accuracy for turning can reach 0.005 mm.
GENYMAB can machine very hard
materials such as nickel, chromium.
The head can tilt and move in the whole
working area so that the tool can be set to
all possible orientations on the main spindle,
on the second spindle or on the table.

STRUCTURE
Excellent geometrical stability and great vibration damping
One-piece Granitan bed base
strong thermal stability
As for the major part of its range, GRANITAN 100 (composite granite) has been selected by Somab
as bed material which brings excellent geometrical stability and great vibration damping to the machine.
Thermal conductivity coefficient of GRANITAN is about 50 times lower than cast iron. It provides a very
high geometrical stability to the machine.
As below diagram shows, its vibration
damping is very important to improve
machining properties, surface quality
and tool life when machining.

VIBRATIONS DIAGRAM
ONE-PIECE BED BASE
Compact and Strong COLUMN AND SADDLES
The column, the vertical saddle and the ram on which the head is fitted, are all made of stabilized and
heavily ribbed cast iron to assure machining quality for hardened material HRC 65.
In order to provide excellent guiding and positioning with high rigidity we use pre-loaded guide-ways
and ballscrews.

A powerful & high accuracy MAIN SPINDLE
Spindle driven by separated
motor through belt
Two spindle nozes, 8 inches and 11 inches with different bore
diameters are proposed. Assembled with super precision bearings,
the spindle is driven by a separated motor with a high quality Polyflex
type belt. A gear box is available in option for high torque needs.
The spindle, the clamping cylinder, the chuck and the link tube are
perfectly fitted and balanced in dynamics, thus ensuring perfect and
efficient machining surface.
In any case this spindle can be locked or driven at low speed
as a C axis for drilling and milling.

Built-in spindle motor (electrospindle)
SOMAB has developed two sizes of synchronous built-in spindles 8
inches and 11 inches. This electrospindle brings following advantages:
- no elongation of the spindle
- no vibration
- an optimal temperature regulation
- a very high torque at low speed
- high machining quality
In any case this spindle can be locked or driven at low speed
as a C axis for drilling and milling.
SUB-SPINDLE
Driven by a built-in synchronous motor with the above-mentioned advantages, a sub-spindle 6 inches
or 8 inches is available. A part can be hold simultaneously by both synchronized spindles for different
machining applications.
Servo control of the push power of the sub-spindle carriage is available. It is very useful to hold a part
automatically on the second spindle or to use the sub-spindle as a tailstock.

A multi-functional TOOL-HOLDER HEAD
The head is fitted with a fixed
attachment for turning tools and
with a live spindle for milling tools. The same tapper shank (ISO,
HSK, CAPTO...) can be fitted in
either the fixed attachment or the
live spindle.

Compact in structure and rigid
in design, the head is firmly
attached to the rotating B axis.
It can be used in continuous up
to 325°, from 0 to 30 rpm via a
no-clearance transmission and
measured by a ring encoder
(increment : 0.0001°). It may be
used in any fixed position or used
as a rotary axis in order to realize
complex machinings, and 5 axes
movement simultaneously.
A mechanical coupling device,
indexable each 2.5 °, installed in
the head, makes the tool excellent
positionning and repeatability,
and absolute rigidity possible. It
makes high precision machning
possible with very long boring
bars.
Fixed attachment for turning
A very robust fixed attachment catches the
turning tool. The 45° position of the head
optimizes the position of the short tool while
external turning or facing.
This very robust fixed attachment can receive
ISO, BT, CAPTO or HSK tool attachements.
There is an external coolant system and a
through the center of tool coolant system. These
coolant circuits can be used separately or
simultaneously in any position of the head.
Internal air-blasting is used to clean the taper
while changing the tool.
Live spindle for milling
It can also receive ISO, BT, CAPTO or HSK
attachments. The live head can rotate up to
8000 or 12000 rpm.
An external coolant system and a through the
center of tool system are fitted. These coolant
circuits, resisting a 50 bar pressure, can be
used separately or simultaneously in any
position of the head.
Internal air-blasting is used to clean the taper
while changing the tool.

FRONT TURRET SUITABLE
for Quantity Production
When machining large series of parts, the front
turret is designed to realize all turning operations
on the main spindle and also on the second
spindle. Simultaneous machining, using the
tool-holder head and the front turret in the same
time, is also possible.
TOOL CHANGER MAGAZINE
with a great capacity
The magazine of tools is fitted with a built-in
digital tool changer. It has a capacity of 28
or 50, or120 tools on request.
Maximum tool length in the magazine is 300
mm. An additional magazine for boring bars up
to 500 mm is available on request.

A real machining center
equipped with T-GROOVED TABLE
The fixed grooved table is an option to replace
the front slant bed. A part, a vice or a divider
head can be directly attached to this table.
Thanks to the tilting head, the 5 axes movement
simultaneously can be realized easily.
This equipment is completed with a tailstock
fitted and guided in a groove.
AUTOMATIC AND DIGITALIZED
TAILSTOCK
The tailstock is fitted on a front slant bed or a on
the T-grooved table. Moving the tailstock can be
automatic and digitalized. Live spindle is fitted on
the quill. Control could be hydraulic or manual.
A programmable high precision push power of
the tailstock is available on request.
Powerful CNCs

Ergonomic design for control panel
A control panel with large colour screen, an operator
keyboard, a remote control and a ball computer mouse,
well equipped with Genymab machines, make
the operating system very ergonomic.
CNC : NUM or SIEMENS
The complete integration of the motorization, the perfect following-up of toolpath, and the optimized
accelerations and speeds, make the machine very accurate, very productive and reliable. The SOMAB
PC programming system, perfectly integrated with the CNC, makes very sophisticated programs very
easily and efficiently to be written.
Machining simulation can be used to check tool paths to prevent any risk of collision.
SOMAB PC : A powerful and productive system
for invention and creation of quality machining
programs
SOMAB PC is an help programming device for multifonction machines with X-Y-Z-B-C five axes.
It is fitted directly in the CNC
computer and can also be fitted
in an external computer. SOMAB
PC brings very usefull helps for
machining procedure and program writing in perfect adequation with the machine. In opposition to FAO
systems, the programs made
by SOMAB PC are written with CNC machining cycles like for threading, rough machining, drilling....
This makes the program very easy to be read and to be modified.

BASIC EQUIPMENTS
CLAMPING DEVICE
The main spindle is fitted with a 3-jaw concentric clamping chuck.
Control is hydraulic and secure in case of pressure drop. Other equipments
are available on request.
ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY COOLANT UNIT
To prevent any pollution of the circuit, the coolant tank is fitted with a centrifugal pump
and a pressure filter.

CHIP CONVEYOR
A belt conveyor, which is the best solution to remove all types of chips, equips each machine.
Maintenance and cleaning is made easier with the clearance area at the front of the machine.
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENTS
MECHANICAL TOOL PROBE
The precision probe is fitted on an automatic movable arm. It can measure
both turning and milling tools while a part is clamped in the chuck.
Fitted with two probes, it can measure tools attached to the front turret and
to the tool-holder head.
LASER TOOL PROBE
Also available is the no-contact laser probe measuring device, attached to the main spindle.
MECHANICAL PART PROBE
A mechanical probe, fitted on an ISO, BT, HSK or CAPTO attachment,
can be used to position a part, to set zero, to measure the workpiece,
or any other measuring needs. It can be stored in the tool magazine
during machining.

BAR FEEDER AND PART COLLECTION SYSTEM

GENYMAB lathes can be fitted with a bar feeder. The equipment automation can be completed
with an automatic part collection system.

AUTOMATIC LOADING AND UNLOADING SYSTEM
Used alone as a flexible production unit, or integrated in a production line, the machine GENYMAB
with automatic opening doors, can be equipped with a robot to load and to unload workpieces.
CONCENTRIC STEADY REST
The equipment can be completed with a concentric steady rest,
fitted directly on the front bed or on a digital saddle.
A GREAT COOLANT CHILLER
So as to facilitate mass production or very precise machining, SOMAB supplies a coolant chiller
fitted in an additional tank.
POWER MONITORING SYSTEM
-
In order to protect the machine from any breaking and to assure workpieces machining quality, a special
program called Power monitoring system is available. In case of power load increasing over limits,
the machine stops machining automatically. The limits are set by learning mode when machining
the first workpiece.
