De sinople, à une bande ondée d'argent chargée d'une
cotice d'azur et, sur le tout, un tigre du Bengale prêt à
bondir.
Significance
The field of the badge is green, which represents both
New Brunswick forestry and the fact that the city of
Fredericton was carved out of virgin forest. The wavy
band bisecting the field symbolizes the Saint John
River which runs through the city. The Bengal tiger is
a device taken from the unofficial wartime badge of the
first ship of name. The tiger is superimposed upon the
forests and straddling the river, similar to the city, and
is crouched for a leap towards prey, an indication that
the vessel is a warship.
Signification
Le champ de l'insigne, de couleur verte, évoque à la
fois les forêts du Nouveau-Brunswick et la ville qui en
a surgi. La bande ondée symbolise la rivière SaintJean qui traverse Fredericton. Quant au tigre du
Bengale, il provient de l'insigne adopté officieusement
en temps de guerre pour le premier navire de ce nom.
Le tigre se détache sur les forêts et enjambe le fleuve,
comme la ville; il s'accroupie avant de bondir sur sa
proie, comme le fait ce navire en temps de guerre.
