WHAT IS WRITTEN WITHOUT EFFORT IS IN GENERAL READ WITHOUT PLEASURE (SAMUEL JOHNSON) I f what Samuel Johnson wrote is true, it can safely be assumed that readers will derive great pleasure from this issue of our magazine. Getting it ready for print was a harder task than on other occasions (hence the slight delay in publication) due to a larger number than usual of shorter articles and last-minute changes suggested by some contributors. Readers will also notice that not all the articles have been published in two languages. Indeed, for some articles written in English that are highly technical, well-illustrated and relatively easy to understand at a general level, we have decided to provide only an abstract in French. Similarly, some texts in French – including those concerning AFTES internal affairs – have not been translated into English. It has been decided that these do not present sufficient technical interest to merit translation, although they are of course directed at speakers of other languages too. We are keen to receive feedback about this decision, so please do tell us what you think by getting in touch with the editors. O ne recent item of news which has not made the headlines in France (even in technical journals) but that is fully deserving of coverage by us at a later date is the inauguration on Tuesday, October 29 of the first undersea rail tunnel linking Europe to Asia – in Istanbul. Construction of this tunnel, 14 km long and including an immersed tube section 1400 m long beneath the Bosphorus, took almost 9 years. There is a tenuous French connection to this new feat of progress. In 1860, a French engineer called Simon Préault, working at that time in Constantinople, presented a project for a Bosphorus Crossing comprising a bridge and immersed tunnel. This was quickly decreed to be impossible to build, since the techniques of the day were not reliable enough to build a structure capable of withstanding the marine currents in the strait. Where will the next inter-continental rail tunnel be? Beneath the Bering Strait between Russia and Alaska? Beneath the Strait of Gibraltar between Spain and Morocco? Or indeed between the United States and Europe, with a hypersonic train travelling in a floating tunnel? And when might it be built? Utopia and the stuff of dreams are often beneficial for science, which in turn leads to innumerable real-life results. We may not yet know the answers to these questions, but you can enjoy reading this issue in the meantime. The Croix-Rousse tunnel in Lyon, 1.7 km long, was reopened to traffic on September 2 last following ten months of renovation works. The second tube, destined for alternative mode transport, including public transport, cyclists and pedestrians, will open on December 5. It was built by the Dodin Campenon Bernard (lead contractor) / Spie Batignolles Tpci / Chantiers Modernes Rhône Alpes / Setec / Cegelec / Gtie Transport / Strates / Clement Vergely Architectes consortium. The same consortium also renovated the first tube, built in 1952. The total cost of works came to € 283 million. The French Minister for Transport has announced that the CDG express line planned to run between Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport and Paris city centre could be funded by an additional tax on airline tickets. However, he added that a number of different funding solutions had yet to be examined. The concession for this 32 km line, some 2 km of which is in tunnels, was initially awarded to VINCI before the latter withdrew from the project in 2011. © Eurotunnel The French engineering group Setec has carried off the “Major Civil Engineering Project of the last 100 years” award from the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs Conseil, Fidic) for its construction of the Channel Tunnel. Awarded just once a century, the “Major Civil Engineering Project of the last 100 years” award honours the completion of emblematic projects with global significance. Delivered in 1994, the Channel Tunnel is the longest undersea tunnel in the world to date. The project required eight years of works to construct the three tunnels, including two rail tubes 50 km long. The Channel Tunnel has fuelled a distinctive vision of engineering, making possible what had initially seemed impossible. On September 13, the Swiss Federal Council sent a draft amendment to the federal law on road transport in the Alps to its Parliament. This amendment would allow construction of a second tube for the Gotthard road tunnel without increasing capacity, and ensure that even after renovation of the first tube, only one carriageway would be open to traffic in each direction. The amendment may be subject to a referendum. The Federal Council also stated that the idea of introducing tolls for the tunnel had been abandoned. Switzerland’s Federal Roads Office has awarded Lombardi the contracts for carrying out environmental impact studies and consultancy for the construction of a second tube parallel to the Gotthard tunnel, running for 16.9 km between Göschenen and Airolo. The cost of the construction of a second tube and renovation of the existing tube, first opened in 1980, has been estimated at € 2.3 billion. Final breakthrough in the Hallandsås rail tunnel, running for 8.7 km on Sweden’s West Coast line, took place on September 4. The Skanska / Vinci consortium encountered immense geological difficulties during works; excavation of the first tube lasted four and a half years. However, progress was made and excavation of the second tube took only two and a half years. The Hallandsås tunnel was excavated using a 10.6 m diameter Herrenknecht TBM. PPP proposal for a new tunnel beneath the Elbe: Vinci has submitted a proposal to the German Ministry of Transport for extension of the A20 motorway in Hamburg, under the terms of a Public-Private Partnership contract. The project would comprise construction of a twin tube tunnel 5.6 km long crossing the Elbe between Glückstadt and Drochtersen. Works could commence in 2015 and last five years. After a 50-year concession period, the motorway would revert to the State. “Martina”, the largest Herrenknecht TBM ever built – with a diameter of 15.5 m – has just completed drilling for the twin tube Sparvo road tunnel located between Bologna and Florence. It has taken the Herrenknecht TBM two years to excavate the Sparvo tunnel’s two tubes, each 2.4 km long. On July 29 last, Italian firm TOTO Costruzioni Generali S.p.A. celebrated final breakthrough in the presence of a large number of guests and politicians. This illustrates the reliability and high technical performance of this Herrenknecht EPB TBM. With its diameter of 15.5 m, it is the largest TBM in the world to have successfully completed excavation of a tunnel. Excavation started in August 2011, with breakthrough of the first tube in July 2012. It then took several months to rotate the machine, which includes a ‘backup’ system, through 180°, before commencing the second run in December 2012, lasting just eight months. The average daily rate of progress was 24 m: 126 m a week. Due to the presence of methane, an anti-explosion system was integrated on various sections of the TBM. With a length of 2.4 km and two separate tubes, the Sparvo motorway tunnel forms an integral part of the “Variante di Valico” project: this is an extension of the A1 between Bologna and Florence, with daily traffic of 90,000 vehicles. The two tubes are linked by cross-passages every 500 m. Ministerial technical instruction 98-300 governing safety in rail tunnels and the STI document “security in rail tunnels” were taken into account in full, right from the design of the infrastructure. The geological context and the very short lead time resulted in the consortium deciding to excavate the double tubes using a TBM. EE HSL Phase IIThe second phase of the East European High-Speed Line consists of sections H and G. With a total length of 106 km, this second phase completes the project for a high-speed link between Paris and Strasbourg, allowing a journey time of one hour fifty minutes between the two cities. The line is scheduled to enter service in 2016. Project descriptionSélection des donnéesd’entréesLe recours à une procédure de conception-réalisation dans le cadre d’un marché global et forfaitaire exige des appels d’offres de fournir toutes les données d’entrées existantes afin que le groupement produise son propre projet dont il gardera Saverne tunnel is a rail infrastructure that allows the high-speed line to cross the Northern Vosges mountain range at its narrowest point. Work package 47, which includes the tunnel, is part of section H. Works commenced on October 1st 2010, using a design and build approach. Saverne Tunnel is a double-tube tunnel 4 km long, of which 3,870 m are being built using a TBM. The excavation diameter is 10 m, for a final inside diameter after lining of 8.90 m. It has been built with a mean incline of 1.9%: a difference of 70 m between the western tunnel portal on the Lorraine plateau and the eastern end, on the Alsace plain. The 130 m that are not excavated consist of covered trenches (false tunnels) that will be covered over subsequently in order to recreate the original landscape. The two tubes – one for each direction of traffic – are linked by 7 cross-passages, some of which include technical premises. Decision to adopt adesign/build procedureConstruction of Saverne Tunnel is expected to last four years and is a critical element in the implementation of the whole of Phase II. RFF therefore decided it was appropriate to entrust the entire design and build process to a single consortium consisting of contractors and design firms. This option, and the resulting specific methods chosen by the consortium, are intended to help secure the construction deadline right from the design stage, encourage the emergence of innovative alternative solutions and provide the best possible solution in terms of construction. À l’instar de la circulaire du 26 mars 2010 relative à l’articula- M TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 Choice of input dataRecourse to a design/build procedure for a global, lump-sum contract means that the calls for tender must supply all the existing input data in order for the consortium to produce its own project, for which it retains full responsibility as designer. This requires the Client and its head of operations to supply a programme that specifies the functional needs of the project to be guaranteed by the consortium. Railway works involve extremely stringent requirements in terms of quality, security, safety and maintenance, so RFF very quickly decided it was important to provide a very full programme description, supported by a genuine reference technical file corresponding to the French “PRO” (‘Project Phase’) level. This file was drawn up by SETEC. After a detailed multi-criteria study by SETEC examining five types of design, the baseline technical solution chosen by RFF was a twin-tube tunnel excavated by means of a TBM. The file included the security equipment as well as the civil engineering for the tunnel, since the former are inextricably linked to the civil engineering option. There was constant contact with the designer of the rail equipment contract, in order to anticipate interfaces relating to the design and construction of the works for each of the two contracts as accurately as possible. This preliminary study allowed the consultation programme to be refined. The programme also included the following elements: • How certain regulations such as earthquake Eurocodes and Technical Interoperability Specifications spécifications techniques d’interopérabilité, “STI”) should be interpreted; • The exact scope of the various services; • An expression of the particular difficulties identified; • Details of interfaces with third parties • Working procedures between the engineering firms and contractors in the consortium; • Working procedures between the consortium and the external control agency brought in by RFF. At the call for tender stage, the client left a number of options open: • Conventional or TBM excavation; • Double-tube or partitioned single tube, with cross-passages every 500 m. Given the key position of Saverne Tunnel in the progress of Phase II of the East European HSL, bidders were expected to recommend the most appropriate method, particularly in light of the need to secure overall completion deadlines. On the basis of the analysis conducted by the consortium during the bidding phase, between November 2009 and March 2011, the double-tube configuration and TBM excavation options were definitively approved. All other solutions were rejected due to the lack of certainty about leadtimes, the ensuing need for additional structures, or because of too much uncertainty about the expected rate of progress. Tunnel designDesign references Design was based primarily on ITI 98300, STI SRT, IN 3278 (LGV specifications) and RFF’s own programme. The latter was particularly detailed, in order to ensure that the structure fulfilled the functional needs of the operator to the full. Design references also included the interpretation of regulations and legislation that was sometimes ambiguous or imprecise, as well as the precise scope of works (particularly as regards Rail Equipment interfaces). STI and ITI 98-300, in the event of more than one standard applying, the more stringent standard was systematically applied, either the national or the European standard. Development process The reference project developed by the head of operations, enclosed with the tender documentation, formed a basis for candidates chosen by RFF in the September 2009 procedure to submit a bid in March 2010, including a complete new design file, corresponding to a “PRO” level, known as “DOS 1”. Clarifications arising from question-andanswer correspondence during the tender finalisation phase were added, and the entire dossier was then incorporated into the contract signed in October 2010. The procedure thus took some thirteen months, between the initial publication in the EU’s OJ and the contract being signed. The consortium’s project management then supplemented and updated the “PRO” file between October 2011 and March 2011. The goal of this phase was twofold: • Dealing with the reservations raised by the Client and its consultants (these formed part of the contract): this involved supplying additional calculations to provide final support for the solutions defined in the “PRO” file and prevent some supporting calculations being postponed to later phases, at a stage when the difficulty in defining alternative solutions and the risks to leadtimes would have been considerably greater; • Taking the design work to a level at which works could be prepared and construction design work could commence. Formal approval by the Client marked the end of this phase, after which the Orders to Proceed with the start of various aspects of the work itself were issued, in March 2011. Most of the execution phase for civil engineering works on the tunnel took place in 2011, except for those parts of the structure that were built much later in the phase (cross-passages and secondary civil engineering works for the tunnel such as walkways, duct banks, and so on). Construction studies commenced in 2012 for equipment, with commencement of works planned for March 2013. It should be noted that throughout these phases, it was possible to incorporate design alterations within the confines of a strict procedure intended to check that all such alterations complied fully with RFF goals and requirements (regulatory compliance, performance, maintainability, safety, costs, leadtimes and interfaces). Some of these changes came from the consortium (optimisation and measures to solve technical difficulties), others from RFF: incorporating considerations relating to the validation of regulatory files such as DPS and additional or amended needs expressed by other project stakeholders as their own design process moved forward (rail equipment, operation, etc.). Alignment The chosen alignment was that of a double-tube tunnel. The tunnel follows a gentle s-curve (with a minimum radius of 5,900 m) following a virtually constant descending profile between the Lorraine tunnel portal and the Alsace portal (figure 4). The mean incline in the tunnel is 20 mm / m in both tubes. The tunnel is just over 4,000 metres long. This length was determined in the programme, particularly in liaison with the consultation on integration of the tunnel portals. Typical cross-section The typical cross-section implemented has an internal radius of 4.45 m, including a peripheral tolerance of 10 cm (figure 2). © SETEC Figure 2 - Coupe type du tunnel / Typical section of the tunnel. Integration of rail equipment Right from the bidding stage, discussions with the coordinator of the Rail Equipment work package made it possible to incorporate most of the expressed needs for this (mainly track, locomotive power supply, telecoms, and signalling). These continued during the works phase, in order to keep track of the inevitable changes in this area. Safety equipment Tunnel safety equipment for work package 47 is as follows: • Low and high voltage equipment (high voltage cells, transformers, main low voltage distribution board, easement cabinets, inverters); • Safety lighting for maintenance and marking purposes (tunnel, crosspassages, technical premises); • Généphone cabinets and fire service outlets; • Fire defence network (reservoir, conduit under pressure, pressure boosters, etc.); • Fire detection system; • Technical ventilation premises and cross-passage overpressure ventilation; • INPT communications network; • Metalwork: doors and handrails for cross-passages, rappel and lifting rings, etc; • CTM to supervise this equipment. During the project phase, the design of this equipment was the subject of Reliability Availability Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) analysis to confirm the appropriate nature of the planned systems and equipment architecture with respect to the project’s particular goals and considerations. Dimensioning of mainelementsLining The design calculations carried out during the bidding phase took the following aspects into account: • Two types of sandstone anticipated on the route; • A hydrostatic load of 4 bar. This led to the choice of arch segments 40 cm thick. This dimensioning was confirmed subsequently during the project development phase, particularly by means of the following additional calculations: • Dimensioning for combined bending and axial stress/shearing to take into account the influence of the weight of unstable wedges in otherwise sound sandstone; • Calculations for the linings in fault areas: analysis of local fracturing of the formation in these areas, in order to determine the thickness of a layer of fractured sandstone weighing on the ring (silo effect), with or without the presence of a sandy lens; • Sensitivity study of the parameters with the greatest influence: hydrostatic load; the extent of fracturing of the ‘sound’ sandstone with variable overload taking into account some of the geostatic stresses, the thickness of fractured zones around faults resting on the lining; • Specific study of the Langthal zone, with poor mechanical characteristics across an extensive area (silo effect deemed to be less significant than for other faults along the route); • Calculation of linings in marly clay soil at the eastern portal (beneath an overburden of some 20 m). Au-delà de la faille vosgienne, le projet rencontre successivement d’Est en Ouest les forma- M TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 Fire resistance In line with the programme requirements, the following structures were checked for fire resistance: • Arch segment ring resistance to fire: ISO834 2 hrs and EUREKA; • Partitions separating the rail tube from communicating spurs, with the aim of the temperature of the unheated side not exceeding 60 °C for a ‘modified hydrocarbon’ HCM 120 category fire. These calculations, based on G2/G3 level verifications for calculation of the fire resistance of arch segments, included taking into account a default spalling value of 5 cm. The calculations were performed pursuant to: • The recommendations of the CETU Tunnels Study Centre on the fire performance of road tunnels; • Supporting calculations in Eurocode 2 (parts 1-2: general rules – fire performance calculations); • Specifications in Eurocode 1 (design basis and actions on structures). SCIA software was used, for a 2D bar model. These calculations showed that an arch segment 40 cm thick could fulfil the fire resistance requirements. Similarly, the minimum partition thickness to guarantee an interface temperature of less than 60° C under CN120 and HCM120 thermal stress was found to be 20 cm (figure 7). In order to ensure an overall level of quality and control that was at least equivalent to a ‘conventional’ model, the Client decided to instruct SETEC to carry out extended operational management to assist it in quality monitoring and acceptance of the structure. This mission related both to the design aspect and performance of the actual works. A distinctive geologicalcontextAll the bridges and tunnels in work package H are in specific geological contexts and Saverne tunnel is no exception, since it crosses the Vosges fault. This major fault features a net slip of some 350-400 m between the Muschelkalk geological formations on the Upper Rhine Plain and the Bundsandstein sandstone formations, which constitute the steep Vosges mountains. The eastern attack point of the tunnel lies in a difficult context featuring highly disrupted Upper Rhine Plain marly limestone formations; the Vosges fault line is crossed 50 metres from the portal, underground. It proved difficult to establish a geotechnical model on the basis of survey campaigns, so the design of temporary structures to build the false tunnels (with a nailed d-wall) was a sensitive point in the overall design work. Because of the outstanding uncertainties during the works phase, monitoring was conducted using the observational method plus ex-post analysis. Although it accounted for only 2% of the total length bored, the TBM excavation of this soil was also design-critical. The Consortium opted for a dual-mode TBM operating in EPB mode in this zone, which proved to be the right choice (as opposed to a conventional attack). Beyond the Vosges fault, as it runs westward the project encounters the Bundsandstein sandstone formations in subhorizontal strata: medium to coarse Vosges sandstone with sandy to clayey intercalations, Saint Odile Poudingue (2-5 cm pebbles surrounded by a coarse sandstone matrix), Intermediate Layers (cemented sandstone and sandy clay strata). These materials have been defined as compact rock (mean compressive strength of around 30 mPa), abrasive and with little fracturing. The Consortium addressed the resulting issue of wear by opting for appropriate cutting tools (cutter bits) and mucking tools. 368_379saverne ok_Mise en page 1 08/11/13 14:03 Page375 Figure 4 - Installations du chantier tête Est / Installations of the eastern portal construction site. This soil does not pose any problem with regard to its immediate stability and made open-mode excavation possible. For the cross-passages, explosive excavation was necessary, and ‘bolted shell’ walls were also used. Apart from a few isolated faults, the sensitive section of the bored tube excavation was that adjacent to the Langthal valley. Soil surveys of this section revealed faults and the possible existence of sandy lenses, with a significant risk of water inrush. The route through this zone, and the possibility of it calling for excavation in EPB mode, also played a determining role in the Consortium’s choice of TBM. On the Lorraine side, the TBM breakout is through sound, compact sandstone formations. The sandstone eye is stable; superficial formations have been reinforced by nailing at the head of the wall. From a hydrogeological point of view, perched aquifers have been identified near the top of the formation, but none were encountered during excavation. Saverne tunnel excavationChoice of excavation method During the Call for Tender phase, Dodin Campenon Bernard and Spie batignolles TPCI, the Consortium contractors responsible for the tunnel, studied the various solutions permitted with the consortium’s engineering firms BG and Antéa: single tube or double-tube, conventional excavation (using explosives or roadheaders) or TBM excavation. The single tube solution would have called for a machine 14.50 m in diameter. This is extremely large and would have posed a great many problems. • Moving back the entry portal, placing it in the Alsace plain fault zone, with an extremely high wall to be supported – over 25 m; • passing through the central Langthal valley zone, where survey boreholes had identified sandy pockets and suspended aquifers, possibly under pressure; TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 M tions gréseuses du Bundsandstein selon une stratification subhorizontale : Grès Vosgiens à grains moyens à grossier avec intercalations sableuses à argileuses, Poudingue de Saint Odile (galets de 2-5 cm enrobés d’une matrice de grès grossier), Couches Intermédiaires (grès cimentés et niveaux argilo-sableux). The need for physical separation of the two rail tracks by means of a HCM 120 fire break wall for the full height of the tunnel, and the creation of air locks allowing passengers to move from one tube to the other safely and without the fire spreading across. These difficulties, with no real benefit in terms of cost (much more expensive machinery and lining) or leadtime (slower progress and additional time to construct the central fire break wall) resulted in the consortium abandoning this solution. The various excavation methods were also explored during this phase. Excavation using explosives or roadheaders, which was possible given the hardness of the sandstone, left major areas of uncertainty regarding the temporary lining, especially in the central Langthal Valley zone. Depending on the soil scenarios examined, the lining could be heavy-duty and therefore a major source of uncertainty. The planning called for four attack points, and thus considerable demands in terms of human and material resources. For all these reasons, the Consortium opted for double-tube excavation using a TBM. The choice of TBM was dictated by the geology encountered. Almost the entire route (90% of the 3,860 m) of the two tunnels runs through pink Vosges sandstone or Saint Odile Poudingue. These materials are not very hard but are compact and highly abrasive. These formations naturally led to open-mode excavation with removal of spoil by conveyor right from the cutting chamber. The next requirement was to find the best solution to cross the unstable marly limestone formations near the Alsace portal (at least 50 m) and the Langthal Valley area (350 m). After having examined a range of solutions to treat the formation by injection (from the outside or from the machine) or even from an adjacent conventionally excavated tunnel, the Consortium decided that the safest and most reliable method was to have a TBM built to cope with this type of terrain, i.e. one that could also operate in earth pressure balance mode. This resulted in the choice of the dual mode machine suggested in the Tender Submission and used for the project. The TBM Since excavation commenced one year after the Order to Proceed, it was possible to abide by the project deadlines using just one TBM. To keep to this schedule, the Consortium anticipated the choice of TBM manufacturer: on receipt of the Order to Proceed on October 1st 2010, it selected HERRENKNECHT. Design was carried out by the manufacturer in collaboration with specialists from DCB and SBTPCI over a period of three months; construction took another six months. The machine was delivered to the site from July 16 onwards. Assembly commenced in August and work on the front commenced in early November 2011. 3 bar). These speeds have allowed for mean daily progress of 20 m (open mode) and 15 m (EPB mode) as planned in the schedule of works. Particular attention has been paid to filling with packing mortar behind the arch segments. In view of the possible existence of water under pressure in the formation and the decision to use semi-inert mortar (dose: 60 kg/m3 in standard zones and 140 kg/m3 in entrance and exit zones), there was a risk of mortar leaching or loss towards the front of the machine in open mode. Consequently, when designing mortar injection and the tunnel lining, the following was included: • Overdesign of the injection pumps (3 KSP20 pumps) and the TBM storage hopper (16 m3); • The possibility of injecting through arch segments with the option of adding setting accelerator additives; • Installation of flared fittings so that some sections would not be completely filled; • The option of supplementary injection to the rear of the follow train (unit with KSP12 pump and 6 m3 skip). Tunnel lining The lining (figure 6) consisted of universal reinforced concrete trapzeoidshaped rings, each consisting of eight prefabricated arch segments. DUPEYRAT (1) (1) VINCI Construction Grands Projets, Underground engineering department, Rueil Malmaison, France Abstract The past experiences of seism around the world showed us that jointed segmental lining of bored tunnels have a good behavior under dynamic actions. However little information can be found about the impact at singular points of underground projects, like at intersection between main bored tunnels and annexed structures. The example of the performed 3D calculations for the phase 2 of the Line 3 of the Greater Cairo metro (Egypt) is giving a quantification of the generated impact on the design, for the connections in between bored tunnels segmental lining and the evacuation & fire brigade access shafts, that have to support a 0.09g magnitude earthquake. 1 - IntroductionTunnels and underground structures have a better resistance to earthquake than surface structures. Based on past experiences, it is known that up to 0.2g seismic acceleration, only small damages are expected in underground structures. However, the project specifications of the Greater Cairo metro Line 3 phase 2 were including a check under 0.09g acceleration for all structures of the Line. Dynamic analysis of a structure under a seismic excitation may be performed in several ways. The seismic coefficient method has been selected for the analysis of the intersection zone between main bored tunnel and shaft linings of the Greater Cairo metro phase 2 Line 3, as well as for the cut and cover stations; this method is based on the transcription of a dynamic loading into a static one, called more commonly pseudo-static loading. Despite it gives a rough approximation 380_385caire_Mise en page 1 08/11/13 13:44 Page381 CHANTIERS/WORKSITES Avec ceux-ci, le dimensionnement de tous les éléments de chacune des intersections a été revu, validé ou corrigé ; principalement ont été affectés les portiques d’intersection tunnel-puits avec une augmentation de leur ferraillage interne et de liaison aux parois moulées des puits, d’environ 20 à 25% en moyenne ; les voussoirs préfabriqués du tunnel et les panneaux de parois moulées des puits, quant à eux et comme attendu, n’ont pas été impactés. of the problem (see also Kawashima (2006)), this method is selected because of its “easy” application on already existing 3D Midas models used for static design. Details of the proceeding and of the main results as well are described in the following for the singular zones of intersection between main bored tunnel and shaft structure. 2 - Concerned part ofthe project - PresentationThe phase 2 of the Line 3 of the Greater Cairo metro is composed of five cut and cover stations, one main bored tunnel and seven ventilation & fire brigade access shafts. These circular shafts, made by diaphragm wall panels are connected directly to the segmental concrete lining of the bored tunnel, via a concrete portal, Fig.1, Fig.2, Fig.3; for this innovative concept description, see also Giuliani et al (2011). These structures are almost all completed now; advantages of this concept have been demonstrated during construction. Figure 1 - Connection shaft – bored tunnel segmental lining. The surrounding soil is modeled by volume elements with Mohr-Coulomb material model, the tunnel lining and the shaft panels by elastic plate elements as well as the structural internal slabs of the shaft; the concrete portal which makes a stiff connection between the segmental lining and the shaft lining is modeled by elastic volume elements. Long term moduli of materials are considered. Some views of the model are given in the Fig.4, Fig.5 and Fig.6. 3.2 - Computation of internal forces in the structure under dynamic actions For this analysis, the dynamic loading is translated into a “pseudo-static” loading whereby the acceleration introduced is expressed via a percentage of volumes participation in a static loading way. The over-conservative results issued from preliminary calculations based on applying 100% of the structural self-weight in translational direction motivated a more accurate analysis, with the determination of % of mass participation in each direction of loa- Figure 5 - Shaft walls and Tunnel lining – 11A 11B 13B. 382 M TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 ding. % of mass of all the modeled volumes, as concrete volumes, soil volumes and water volumes; are determined for all acceleration directions. 3.2.1 - Determination of mass percentages participation Above underground structures are freely moving; they have to comply to the soil displacements; the Eigen analysis is a method to obtain the natural frequencies of vibration of a structure: when structure is free to move without the influence of any external forces, it would vibrate in different frequencies; each frequency (Eigen frequency) is corresponding to a vibration mode shape; the target is to determine under what mode shapes the mass participation is the biggest one. In our 3D situation modeling hereabove described, the maximum percentage of participation is determined for each direction with Midas GTS dynamic option, using the first fifty natural modes; Annex structures are classified in different groups depending on their geometry, their surrounding conditions (soil cover and water situations); corresponding 3D Midas models are used; it comes the following mass participation percentages that are relevant for each structure design; see Table1. See some results in Fig.7. 3.3 - Final results In order to get the final results in the different parts of the structure, internal forces of each pseudo static load case are added to the static long term situation ones. The envelop of all these resulting internal forces are used at accidental ultimate limit state to check the compatibility of the already performed design under static actions with the 0.09g accidental seismic acceleration. The impact is quantified in the next pages. 4 - Quantification of theimpact on the designThis impact analysis is performed globally on all Annex Structures of the phase 2 of the Line3 that are almost similar (11A.11B.13B.15A.17A & 19A). 4.1 - Impact on bored tunnel segmental lining and on shaft d-walls panels Results showed that the seismic action has no impact on the tunnel segmental lining design and on the shaft walls design. This conclusion is compatible with what was already conventionally admitted for jointed structures. 4.2 - Impact on concrete portal structure Thus, the following is focusing on the concrete portal and especially on the impact on the reinforcement since concrete design (check of concrete stresses and thus of element dimensions) is compatible with seismic action. The figure 8 is detailing the percentage of increase of reinforcement sections per main portal element and per bars direction from the reinforcement sections issued from static situation. These percentages are average values for the all analyzed annex structures. First of all, it has to be noted that oppositely to segmental lining and d-walls panels, the seismic load cases have got an impact on all elements of the portal and in all directions. The impact on upper beam and lower beam is very similar; 23% to 34% increase of (Ox) bars is coming mainly from shear at end parts; 10% to 15% increase of (Oz) bars is coming from tensile forces and shear as well. Note that the seismic impact on (Oy) bars is covered by the severe loading assumptions applied at construction stage. The impact on side-walls is greater on (Ox) and (Oy) bars. TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 M 3.2.2 - Pseudo-static load cases Pseudo-static load cases are entered in the Midas GTS model, as described in section 3.1. Only moduli of elasticity of all concrete elements are changed into instantaneous moduli values with: • Pre-cast segmental lining: 28500 MPa • Shaft internal structures: 34922 MPa • Shaft D-wall panels: 29858 MPa Since the encountered soil is for major part made of sand with some clay layers, long term parameters are kept; short term parameters are almost equal to long term ones for this formation. Six specific load cases are computed separately into a full linear analysis: a pseudo acceleration in the six different directions is applied independently since the design is using a 3D nonsymmetrical model: Ox positive, Oy positive, Oz upward, Ox negative, Oy negative, Oz downward, using a revi- 383 380_385caire_Mise en page 1 08/11/13 13:44 Page384 CHANTIERS/WORKSITES M Figure 8 - Impact of seismic action on reinforcement of the concrete portal – Increase from static design. 384 M TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 380_385caire_Mise en page 1 08/11/13 13:44 Page385 CHANTIERS/WORKSITES 4.3 - Impact on connecting bars concrete portal to d-walls panels The figure 9 is presenting the percentage of increase of reinforcement sections per main portal element and per bars direction from the reinforcement sections issued from static situation. These percentages are average values for all analyzed annex structures; they are varying from 13% to 27% depending on portal elements. Figure 9. - Impact of seismic action on connecting reinforcement portal to d-walls – Increase from static. 5 - ConclusionThe seismic coefficient method was firstly selected because “easily” applicable to already existing 3D models; it has to be mentioned that adding automatically in Midas GTS the static load case results and the pseudo static load results per direction is not possible, thus leading to highly time consuming analysis. The performed analysis confirmed the good behavior of a jointed tunnel lining. It also reveals that seismic action has got an impact on the global reinforcement of the connecting structure essentially due to shear forces increase between the different elements. The impact was not negligible (globally +25% of reinforcement) because of the stiff connection between the structures inherent to this innovative structural concept of connection. t 5 - ConclusionLa méthode du coefficient sismique avait été initialement sélectionnée car facilement applicable sur les modèles de calculs éléments finis en 3D utilisés pour le dimensionnement sous charges statiques des structures ; toutefois, vu l’impossibilité dans le logiciel Midas GTS d’ajouter automatiquement les résultats issus des cas de charges statiques et ceux issus des cas de charges pseudo-statiques, le temps d’exploitation a été augmenté de manière significative. A compact design for shaft-tunnel junction adopted for Greater metro Line 3. Drinking water is distributed to an increasingly large proportion of the 5 million Casaouïs, as the inhabitants of Casablanca are known, but some of the domestic and industrial wastewater continues to be discharged directly into the adjacent Atlantic Ocean, with no treatment whatsoever. This was the first time that DENYS had worked in Morocco. As part of this project, in May 2011 the DENYS/CAPEP contractor consortium won the international call for tender for the construction, using a micro-TBM, of a gallery 2570 metres long with a nominal diameter of 2500 mm. In August 2012, the same consortium won a new call for tender for the construction of a further 2890 linear metres, of the same diameter. Excavation of the gallery using a micro-TBM was recommended by consultants SAFEGE-CGE, bearing in mind the restrictive urban environment (work beneath the coast road with a high volume of HGV traffic, in an industrial and port zone), and work at considerable depth in the presence of groundwater. M TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 DENYS, a Belgian firm, specialises in pipeline, drinking water, tunnelling and civil engineering works, as well as special works and restoration. Having been highly active historically in Benelux, DENYS is now also present all over Europe, in Africa and the Middle East. For its part, the Moroccan firm CAPEP specialises in drinking water, drainage and civil engineering works in its home country. Construction of the work shafts Excavation of the main collector over a distance of 5460 m called for the construction of 3 starter shafts, with inner dimensions of 14.00 m x 8.00 m, and 4 arrival shafts, with inner dimensions of 7.00 m x 4.00 m. These shafts were built in mixed soil. The top section (to a depth of some 5.00 m) consists of sandy layers with varying degrees of sandstone, beneath which lie shale and fractured quartzite with varying inclines. Depth of the work shafts varies from between 12.00 m to 18.00 m Initial shaft sections are supported by sheet piling shoring or pile walls, depending on the cohesion of the sand and the height of groundwater. Shaft walls in the rocky section are supported by anchor rods located as appropriate depending on the fracture characteristics of the rock. Earthworks are carried out by means of a mechanical excavator equipped with a hydraulic rock breaker for the rocky areas. Once the micro-TBM has excavated a gallery, the permanent inspection shafts are constructed inside the work shafts; the latter are then filled in. At the request of the operator, additional inspection shafts are also being constructed along the length of the gallery, between the work shafts. The technique of drilling using a micro-TBM, recommended by DENYS, has made it possible to construct gallery sections up to 1000 m long without a covered trench, between two work shafts – the latter being the only visible indications on the surface of the works going on below. Since it is possible to construct curved sections of gallery, the work shafts can be situated at the least disruptive locations for local residents, at the same time as avoiding underground obstacles such as buried networks and other existing tunnels. During the preparatory phase, DENYS conducted a geotechnical survey campaign, consisting in core sampling along the entire length of the route, followed by compression, permeability and abrasiveness testing. In view of the unconfined compressive strength values recorded, combined with high permeability, DENYS decided to order an AVN 2500 closedshield TBM from HERRENKNECHT, fitted with a rock cutter wheel and a compressed air chamber. By balancing groundwater pressure, the highpressure chamber makes it possible to have access to the cutter wheel in complete safety, for inspection and/or replacement of the cutting tools when necessary. The 5460 metre gallery is being built in six sections with lengths of between 810 m and 970 m. The technique used to monitor micro-TBM excavation of these curved sections is a first in Morocco: the position of the microTBM can be recorded in real time using the SLS Microtunnelling LT navigation system, located on the worksite by VMT. DENYS has four systems of this type, suitable for diameters of between 900 mm and 2500 mm. Chaque tronçon compte 6 stations de poussée intermédiaires, These enable an operator in the control booth to view the location and orientation of the TBM with respect to the theoretical curve at all times. If necessary, they can make corrections by adjusting the eight guide cylinders. A verification measurement is performed every 100 m to check the accuracy of the navigation system; the latter is recalibrated if required. The system enables the TBM to be guided to the exit shaft with an accuracy of within 1 cm, both horizontally and vertically. The jacking-pipies, which also constitute the permanent gallery lining, are lowered as the TBM progresses, thereby providing immediate support for the excavation. The jacking-pipes use a steel sleeving system that ensures the gallery remains watertight throughout the construction phase, despite being surrounded by groundwater. The pipes, each 2.4 m long and weighing 14 t, are transported 350 km by truck from the construction plant to the worksite. To withstand jacking force, the pipes must be capable of withstanding a thrust of 2000 t on straight sections, and 1500 t on curves. At the request of LYDEC, a protective lining is applied to the jacking-pipes subsequently, in order to improve the resistance of the concrete to hydrogen sulphide. Since the tunnel passes through rock containing quartz – a particularly abrasive crystal – regular inspections of the cutter wheel, roller cutters and scrapers have been scheduled, in order to check the condition of the cutting tools and fastening bolts. These are replaced as often as necessary. The tender also includes works to intercept two existing effluent collectors, with hydraulic cross-sections of 4.5 m² and 11 m² respectively; these currently discharge directly into the sea. Levels in the existing collectors rise in the event of rainfall or a particularly high tide, so the interception structures must also be equipped with an automated regulation system. Both structures have been fitted with flowmeters and upstream and downstream level sensors, as well as cutoff valves, hydraulic regulation valves and a control PLC. Deadlines The first phase of works, comprising 2570 m of gallery, 8 inspection shafts and 2 interception structures, is due for acceptance in September 2013. The second section, for 2890 m of gallery and 8 inspection shafts, is due for acceptance in August 2014. The main gallery for the first phase was completed by DENYS in December 2012; on the basis of the current progress of works, the main gallery for the second phase should be completed in early October 2013. The rest of the allotted time is earmarked for the construction of civil engineering works and returning the sites occupied during works to their original condition. The infrastructures will be commissioned as soon as the Sidi Bernoussi pre-treatment plant has been completed. t Equipes de DENYS et CAPEP / DENYS and CAPEP teams. Figure 2 - “Bertha”/ “Bertha”. Last July, the largest earth pressure balance (EPB) TBM ever built started excavation works beneath the city of Seattle. With a diameter of 17.5 m, this impressive machine began work which is due to continue through to autumn 2014 (fig. 2). By the end of this 15month period, the SR 99 tunnel, running near the shore of the Puget Sound on the West Coast of the United States for a distance of almost 3 km, will have been completed (fig. 1). Like the Socatop tunnel in Greater Paris, the SR 99 tunnel is a double-deck infrastructure. Ultimately, it will replace the Alaskan Way viaduct, which suffered considerable damage during the February 2001 earthquake. In the light of the size of the project and the highly urbanised environment, a monitoring programme of unprecedented scope for the United States has been deployed. Soldata Inc., the US subsidiary of the French monitoring and state-of-the-art instrumentation specialists, was awarded this one-of-a-kind contract. (fig. Ces instruments On February 28, 2001, Seattle was hit by an earthquake. Earthquakes are not unusual in the north-west of the United States, and there were no fatalities on this occasion, but the Alaskan Way Viaduct running above the city suffered major damage. Repairs were soon commenced, but the damage to the structure and its supporting dike proved to be considerable. In 2009, the decision to replace part of this viaduct with a road tunnel almost and related improvements was announced. Known as the SR 99 tunnel (in reference to State Route 99, which runs across Washington state), the tunnel will run beneath downtown and lie at the heart of the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement project undertaken by the State. 394 Monitoring solutionscommensurate with thescale of the projectIt was in this context that in March 2012 Soldata Inc., selected by STP from a total of nine competitors, won the largest monitoring contract to date on the West Coast of the US in the construction industry. Worth a total of $17.4 million, the contract involves the local subsidiary designing, installing and managing a full range of measurement solutions in order to monitor progress of the TBM extremely closely (fig. 3). In January 2011, Washington State Department Of Transportation (WSDOT) entrusted construction of the doubledeck tunnel to the Seattle Tunnel Partners (STP) consortium, comprising contractors Dragados and TutorPerini, in a contract worth $1.35 billion. The TBM will advance over a total distance of 2.9 km, at depths of between 25 and 60 m beneath the city, including nearly 200 buildings. Installation of the instruments commenced in June 2012, allowing works to excavate the southern portal of the tunnel to be monitored in real time, at the same time as establishing reference data along the route of the tunnel. This baseline monitoring was to last at least six months, for each sensor, before ‘Bertha’ arrived, in order to ensure stable reference data. As things turned out, it was over 12 years after the earthquake that the 17.5 m-diameter TBM, the largest ever built in the world, began excavating the Seattle soil, close to Pioneer Square, in July 2013. In the light of the dense urban environment and the scale of the project, an extensive and wide-ranging monitoring system was called for to counter the risks inherent in such a project. The Cyclops solution, which has been used for some 15 years worldwide on construction worksites, is a high-precision realtime system that measures deformation using automatic theodolites. These systems use targets installed on building facades. They can also function without targets, in particular to monitor roadway settlement. On the Seattle worksite, one third of the theodolites installed can work with or without prisms, in “Centaur” mode. (fig. Le système gère aussi un puissant système d’alarme pour informer par tous les still open to traffic, is also being monitored constantly, with 35 tiltmeters, 10 stress gauges and two Cyclops being used throughout the duration of works. In addition to other technical requirements, the project has opted for automatic satellite monitoring of ground settlement. ATLAS, the satellite-based radar interferometry monitoring solution (InSar), developed in partnership with France’s National Geographic Institute (IGN), allows movements to be defined and mapped to an accuracy of within ±3 mm. Based on the use of natural reflectors present in radar images, this solution allows for medium and long-term monitoring of extremely large areas, as well as providing excellent measurement point density (of the order of 10,000 points per square kilometre in urban environments). This technique makes global monitoring possible, thus aiding communication between the various stakeholders in projects of this nature: the public authorities that launched the project, the engineers and technicians designing and executing it, local residents impacted by works, and so on. It will also provide confirmation for measurements obtained using traditional monitoring methods, thus offering optimum reliability and better information for assessing any damage that might occur. In addition, a large number of instruments are also being used on board the TBM, constantly providing details of the machine’s exact location, the quantity of material excavated and the pressure at the cutting face. The latter is vital data when it comes to adjusting the speed of progress to actual soil conditions. Furthermore, 6 deep benchmarks have been installed at a depth of 50 m. These anchored markers have been taken as fixed points and are useful in the event of an earthquake and to correct for the influence of the tides. In an area exposed to a high earthquake risk and close to the sea, they provide a benchmark in the event of damage to instruments located on the surface or at shallow depths (fig. 9). Lastly, monitoring of vibratory and acoustic disruption has also been installed to protect the environment and those living close to the works. In all, 3,000 measurement points have been established to monitor works at all times. Data from most of these points, installed in the ground or on buildings, is logged automatically, while other points require manual logging. All of the data gathered will be centralised in a sophisticated data management unit known as Geoscope. All the data gathered and processed is then sent in real time to the project manager and client, giving them full access to works monitoring. At the north end of downtown, the northern shaft is currently being reinforced with the installation of piles prior to the arrival of the TBM, scheduled for autumn 2014. Progress of the project- In its capacity as client, WSDOT has emphasized the importanceof transparency and open communication with the public during construction. A website geared especially to local residents has been set up, including a webpage devoted to monitoring (http://www. wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/SR99/Tunnel/ PropertyOwnerInfo.htm) (fig. 10-11). Every month, WSDOT’s “Communications & Public Involvement” / “Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program” department publishes a leaflet distributed to all local residents and others concerned by the project. The September edition presents the monitoring programme developed by Soldata and explains how the monitoring system, including satellite monitoring, is helping to ensure the safety of the project. Today, informing the general public is a vital consideration in any urban project. Perspectives- At the time of writing, installation was virtually complete. Some ten or so people are still on site, responsible for data management and system maintenance. At present, teams have 72 hours to put right any system failure. In the coming months, the TBM will pass beneath several historic buildings. Their foundations have been reinforced to ensure their integrity and the buildings will benefit from special monitoring (tiltmeters, crack gauges and water levels, allowing the slightest differential settlement of walls or foundations to be assessed with great accuracy). At this point, the teams will shift into 24/7 intervention mode, including emergency call-outs, for some 15 months. Altogether the 2020 network will total over 450 km and more than 250 stations. The Moscow Metro is currently configured as a system of 9 main radial lines stretching out from the city centre and a circle line that interconnects with the 9 other lines. Part of the expansion programme concerns the construction of a second ring line further away from the centre. A 6.2 km section of this new ring line (4 new stations) will be bored by SMU Engeocom using a new TBM from NFM Technologies. This 6.6 m diameter EPB machine will excavate a twin tube tunnel of 5.70 m internal diameter. On half the drives the works will face a challenging geology of cohesionless sands, with an increased difficulty over long sections due to a mixed face situation with limestone in the low part. A pressure of 4 bars is expected, for which the TBM is designed. However the most significant challenge concerns the project organisation and logistics. The TBM parts will be fully manufactured in Europe, mostly in the NFM factory in France, and delivered within a tight schedule with a 10.5-month on site ready-to-bore deadline. Through a comprehensive approach, the TBM will be assembled directly on site, during the winter months early 2013, in close cooperation between NFM Technologies and Engeocom. Since then, it has been expanding steadily and now reaches an impressive total length of 300 km and serves 180 stations. 10,000 train rides carry 7 to 9 million passengers every day. In order to handle the city’s growth, the Moscow Government has launched a considerable expansion programme, with 37 stations and 75 km of tracks to be added by 2016, complemented from 2016 to 2020 by 75 km and 33 new stations. All these extension will be built as underground structures. The plan is to reach by 2020 a total of more than 450 km with more than 250 stations. It is planned that a total of 22 TBMs will be involved in the construction of this metro extension, from 5 suppliers, some of them being already used machines, some of them new and spe- cifically designed. In particular NFM Technologies will be supplying a new TBM that is described in the next sections of this paper, while another TBM formerly at work in the Kazan metro construction has been moved to Moscow. The current configuration is that of 9 main radial lines stretching out from the city centre to which a circle line is interconnected as shown figure 1. 2020. It will connect (starting from the North, clockwise) the stations of Savelovskaya, Sokolniki, Aviamotornaya, Petshatniki, Kashirkskaya, Kochovs- kaya, Prospect Vernadskogo, Park Pobedy, Vystavochnaya, and Dinamo. The existing short line 11 will be integrated in this new ring. 2 - The project2.1 - The Second Ring line The second ring line project is part of the ambitious programme for the expansion of the Moscow metro. A complete new ring will be constructed running concentrically with the existing ring line, significantly relieving the radial lines and coping with the city development. The full circle will be completed by Figure 2 - Overall view of the 2nd circle line project (in dotted line) and zoom on initial sections excavated. The first part of the new line construction concerns the North and West of Moscow, i.e. the connection between lines 9 and 4. It will be operational by 2016, with tunnelling works starting in 2012. It includes the construction of 4 new stations (Khoidynskoe Pole, Khoroshevskaya, Schelepikha, and Delovoy Centre) – see figure 2. Both tubes will have the same lining and use segments delivered by a single segment production facility located in Lobnya, 20 km away from the jobsite. The rings are made of 7 precast concrete segments (6 + 1 key), the dimensions of which are 1.2 m long, 300 mm thickness, for a weight of 3.1 t. 2.3 - Geology 2.2 - Tunnel characteristics Figure 1 - Current network of Moscow Metro and Light Rail system. 400 M TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 The second ring line is built as a twin tube tunnel of 5.70 m internal diameter. The tubes are bored in parallel by a refurbished Lovat machine and by a new TBM from NFM Technologies. A schematic of the geological profile is given figure 3. The ground falls in three categories, neither of them exhibiting a resistance (UCS) higher than 30 MPa. From the diagram, it is obvious that most of the drive will be excavated in a mixed front situation. Expansion in this part of the city is booming with high-tech residential housing and office building projects, the Moscow Ice Palace, and future projects such as the gigantic Avia Park shopping mall to be opened end of 2014 (see figure 4). The launching shaft is 30 m deep and was excavated as a cut-and-cover job. It was used to launch the Lovat TBM but it is planned that the trench will be partly covered before the NFM TBM is assembled (see figure 5). This limits the available space for hoisting down the subassemblies to two openings of Table 1 - NFM TBM characteristics. 3 - The logistics challenge3.1 - The approach In order to meet the tight contractual schedule for the TBM delivery, NFM has decided to avoid the in-house assembly and disassembly process and perform the assembly operations directly on site. This approach saves time and costs but needs to be perfectly organized right from the design phase and requires a specific design of the supply chain. This approach was previously used by NFM / Wirth for the Schlüchterner tunnel project in 2006. Figure 4 - Overall view of the future Khodynskoe Pole area with the shopping mall to be constructed on top of the metro station shown in dotted lines. 3.2 - The jobsite configuration The TBM installation and launch jobsite is located at Khodynskoe Pole, the former Moscow city airport where old Figure 5 - Shaft configuration for the NFM TBM assembly. TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 M In addition, the NFM TBM exhibits the following additional features: • Mucking can be done either by muck cars (service train) or by a tunnel conveyor. This can be changed at any moment, assuming the tunnel conveyor is installed and operational. • Probe drilling and coring can be performed using the installed drill mounted on the segment erector. Drilling can be done axially through the front bulkhead (2 ports) or through the shield (6 angled ports). • Detection of harmful gases is implemented for methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), and carbon dioxide (CO2). The cutter head is equipped as standard with both drag bits and disc cutters, the latter can be replaced with pick tools. Struts positioned in the corners and across the trench create additional logistics constraints. After launching the NFM TBM, it will be used to launch two other machines excavating in the opposite direction, i.e. towards Nizhnyaya Maslovka. This shaft will in turn be converted into the actual Khodynskoe Pole metro station. Cold is also one of the project characteristics that will be taken into account in order to avoid problems with the equipment (e.g. congealing or freezing of fluids, increased mechanical friction). Snow can also be problematic concerning all electrical installations (see statistics in Table 2). Covers and forced warm air heating will be installed around the TBM in the shaft. 3.3 - The upstream logistics All the TBM parts will be fully manufactured in Europe, mainly in France at the NFM facility in Le Creusot. A reinforced supplier inspection and unit test process guarantees that all delivered parts or systems will be 100% operational when integrated in the complete machine. Every subsystem is delivered to a buffer storage warehouse that is inspected on a weekly basis prior to shipment. The transport plan is as follows: • Buffer storage → Le Havre harbour: by truck, first container 10 Dec., last container 25 Dec. • Le Havre → St Petersburg: by sea, shipment 01 Jan. • St Petersburg → Moscow: by truck, delivery 26 Jan. A high capacity crawler crane (500 t) will be made available during the handling and lowering of the front-end part of the TBM (shield and cutter head subassemblies). The existing tower cranes that are also used to handle the segments will be used for lowering the gantries at the rear end of the shaft. The containers’ delivery positions will be clearly marked on the ground (surface part of the jobsite), in accordance to the initial positions of the corresponding backup gantries. This will greatly reduce the number of material handling operations. Two work areas are defined: • at ground level, where the gantries will be fitted with their equipment; • at the bottom of the shaft, where the shield modules will be assembled, the cutter head will be installed, and where the whole TBM will be piped and cabled. At the design phase, prefabrication of equipment has been widely used, for example for all straight sections of both high- and low pressure piping that will come as weldless units ready to install. The operations for both work areas and their timing are given in figure 6 (planning). The work will be performed by a joint team of NFM and the client SMU Engeocom. 3.5 - The planning The complete assembly and tests of the NFM TBM are planned over a 10-week period, i.e.: • 8 weeks for assembly, including 6 for piping and cabling, • 2 weeks for testing, as shown on figure 6. Table 2 - Moscow winter climate statistics. Figure 6 - Jobsite assembly operations planning 4 - ConclusionAlthough the planning and working conditions on the jobsite are very challenging, the overall target of 10.5 months from contract to “on site ready to bore” could be achieved thanks to a well devised logistics plan and through a close cooperation between NFM and Engeocom. The ECOMINT project (Etanchéité par COques MINces en Tunnels) involves experimental work with thin shell waterproofing procedures in tunnels. This project was presented by ETANDEX, which in September 2012 won the road innovation Request For Projects launched by France’s Ministry for the Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy (MEDDE). The Echelles tunnel, which is managed by Conseil Général de la Savoie (73), was chosen as the first experimental site. One third of its length was affected by a large amount of water ingress that was impossible to treat using conventional techniques due to its narrow cross-section, requiring prior boring and thus long and costly works as well as closure to traffic. The disorders observed were as follows: • a calcite deposit rendering the roadway slippery on the bend at the exit on the Echelles side • localised water inrush, unwelcome in any season and resulting in the formation of black ice and stalactites in winter. These disorders were mostly located within 100 m of the tunnel portal. The Conseil général 73 wished to eliminate them, both to improve user safety and to make winter operation constraints simpler. The variety of configurations in the tunnel in terms of geometry, lining, and various rates of water ingress made it a good candidate for experimenting with various repair methods. The three techniques implemented were as follows: • an ultra-thin adhesive shell made of glass/epoxy composite, manually applied to a sprayed surfacing and temporary waterproofing mortar with a thickness of between 3 mm and 3 cm depending on the condition of the existing sprayed concrete shell surface. • a thin adhesive “sandwich system” shell, also applied in the existing sprayed concrete shell areas, composed of a sprayed smoothing and temporary waterproofing mortar, a sprayed waterproofing product and a protective layer of reinforced sprayed concrete with a thickness of less than 8 cm. • a semi-independent thin shell anchored to the tunnel, applied in nonlined areas with exposed rock consisting of a drainage layer, instant-setting sprayed waterproofing, and a protective layer of sprayed reinforced concrete with a thickness of less than 6 cm. The tunnel remained open to alternate flow traffic during the daytime throughout the period of works. Night closures were restricted to operations requiring both traffic carriageways to be closed: spraying the waterproofing products and the concrete, and the lengthwise connection at the top of the arch. Works proved to be quite delicate and lasted longer than expected. However, this was not surprising given that this was a full-scale experiment in a tunnel that had been chosen partly due to the difficulty of repairing it. A high degree of water ingress following an exceptionally TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 M revêtus et d’autres ont été réparés avec des coques en béton projeté armé drainé. Interfacing between the different procedures proved to be a particularly delicate point in one of the areas, in which it was found necessary to treat one side of the tunnel using an adhesive procedure and the other using a drained shell. A complete review of the works will be drawn up in a report designed to assess this initial experimental phase. Regular inspections and supplementary tests will be carried out annually thereafter. The CETU Tunnels Study Centre is responsible for monitoring this experimentation for a period of 10 years – the period during which works are guaranteed by the contractors. In addition to Conseil Général de la Savoie, ETANDEX and CETU (which was closely involved with the project), the other partners in these innovations are Autoroutes et Tunnel du Mont Blanc (ATMB) and Réseau Ferré de France (RFF), which both own a large number of tunnel assets. The products used were supplied by SPPM, BASF CC and t-mix. External control was provided by the Laboratory Department of the Lyon Highways Technical Research Centre (CETE). Abstract In the presence of fire, operating an accelerator or injector within a stratified plume of smoke leads to destratification of this plume and thus to a loss of visibility for users. During design studies, generally in 1D, and subsequently in the definition of the functional description to operate the ventilation installation, it is important to have an estimation of the length of the back layer (the plume of smoke moving counter to the air current), principally through the use of the 1D software used for dimensioning. This article makes it possible to define the significance of a number of parameters in order to be able to incorporate them into the appropriate software. Introduction- IntroductionIn the event of fire, the chief aim of ventilation is to enable users to evacuate safely on their own. Users may find themselves trapped upstream and downstream from the fire in two-directional tunnels and in congested single-directional tunnels. Consequently, smoke given off by the fire needs to remain close to the ceiling: this condition is referred to as stratification. The ventilation system is designed to preserve conditions that encourage smoke stratification. as well as on the velocity distribution in the cross-section, particularly in the presence of an air jet. For longitudinal ventilation systems with accelerators or injectors, these air entrainment systems generate a longitudinal air current in the tunnel. In order to ensure conditions that encourage stratification, the velocity of this longitudinal air current must be low, and thus less than the critical ventilation velocity (the minimum velocity required to push all smoke in one direction from the fire). This creates a relatively stable plume of smoke that extends in the opposite direction to the longitudinal flow. This phenomenon is referred to as backlayering. This research involved analysing the influence of these three parameters on the length of the back layer by means of an experimental study (1/3 scale model) and a digital study using a 3D fluid dynamic design code. The use of a large-scale model was fundamental in validating the digital approach, in order to be able to carry out a relatively exhaustive study of parameters. If an accelerator or injector located within this stratified back layer starts operating, the stratification will be destroyed, resulting in a loss of visibility for users. Knowing the length of this plume, particularly during the design phase, makes it possible to specify the most appropriate installation of accelerators, and to know which accelerators may be started up in the event of fire without adversely affecting stratification. The length of the back layer depends mainly on the intensity of the fire and the flow of air in the tunnel, In this research, the air entrainment system (accelerators or injectors) was represented by a parietal jet allowing the velocity gradient in the tunnel cross-section to be represented. The jet ejection velocity could be varied for a constant flow. Experimental researchTests for this experimental research were conducted in the Ineris fire gallery. This gallery has a crosssectional area of 5.4 m2 and a length of 50 m, allowing it to serve as a 1/3 scale model of a tunnel. The cross-section of the gallery shown on the left includes a ventilation duct that was not used during this research. The following diagram shows the gallery. It comprises a tunnel (1) in which the fire occurs. The smoke then passes into a vertical tower (2), a washer (4) and then through an extractor fan before being discharged through a chimney (6). Il résout les équations fondamentales de la mécanique de fluides sur un maillage In order to take into account the smaller scale of the gallery compared to a tunnel, simulation parameters were calculated using Froude number scaling. For these tests, the fire was modelled using a heptane tank fire. The gallery extractor fan allowed a longitudinal air current to be created in the tunnel. A system of louvers allowed the pressure differential and leakage rate from the air circuit to be adjusted, thereby modifying the flow in the tunnel. This fan is located after the washer and therefore operates at a virtually constant temperature. The experiments were initially conducted with no velocity gradient across the cross-section, i.e. without representing the air jet. In the second stage, a fan connected to a flexible duct and a diffuser allowed an air entrainment system to be modelled, by creating a parietal jet located at the top of the gallery. This installation, shown on the photograph opposite (the white box) made it possible to achieve a jet as wide as the tunnel. For each fire intensity, jet ejection velocities of 2.4 and 5.14 m/s were studied. The flow supplied by the fan was identical for both velocities. The jet thickness was altered to modify the ejection speed. 3D digital research- Etude numérique 3DLes simulations numériques 3D sont réalisées au moyen du code CFD Two sizes of tank were used, representing fires of two different intensities. The results of the combined differential equation system were achieved iteratively using a SIMPLEST algorithm. Indeed, the behaviour of smoke in tunnels is governed by fluid mechanics equations. These equations, relating to conservation of the plume, the quantity of movement and energy, may conservatively be expressed as follows: The digital model used in the simulators is shown in the diagram opposite. This models the tunnel and the gallery’s vertical tower. This digital research began by comparing the results obtained during the model tests with the simulations in order to ensure the relevance of the 3D model. The following graph shows the lengths of back layer recorded for different ejection velocities (Vjet) for both experimental and digital approaches, for two fire intensities (249 kW and 184 kW). The degree of proximity between the two approaches indicates that the digital models used are relevant and reflect physical and airflow reality. 3D Definition of keyparameters for the studyA number of parameters and concepts were defined beforehand for the graphs presented in the research, in order to ensure the analysis conducted could be properly understood. • The concept of critical velocity (Vc) corresponds to the minimum velocity imposed on an airflow to direct all smoke away from a fire in one direction. This velocity depends mainly on the intensity of the fire and the geometry and incline of the tunnel. For road and guided transport tunnels, this concept is widely used to dimension ventilation systems. Danziger & Kennedy’s formula is used to calculate ventilation velocity. • The length of the plume of smoke (Lc) is estimated by analysing the temperature profile across the distance between the plume of smoke and the fresh air located beneath it (including the shear zone between the two). If major temperature differences are identified across a vertical temperature profile directly upstream of the fire, back layering will ensue. In this case, the length of the plume of smoke corresponds to the distance between the fire and the location at which the vertical temperature profile is uniform across its entire height. For relatively 409_416egis_Mise en page 1 08/11/13 13:46 Page413 TECHNIQUE/TECHNICAL L’étude suivante est réalisée à partir des résultats obtenus au moyen de simulations numériques 3D. short back layers, which are not very thick, there may be some uncertainty. • The jet velocity (Vjet) achieved by a specific fan corresponds to the mean air injection velocity as it leaves the jet nozzle. For the physical model, the design of the unit used for the nozzle (with interior deflectors) meant that this velocity was relatively uniform across the entire injection cross-section, establishing a flat jet at the top of the model. • The flow velocity (Vd) corresponds to the mean velocity relative to the volume flow (in fresh air) measured in the gallery by its anemometers. The flow velocity is established by the gallery extractor fan located beyond the washing tower. In this research, the flow velocity can often be assimilated to a confinement velocity, since it allows the smoke front flowing against the air current to be halted. Résultats The ratio (Lc/H) expresses the dimensionless length of the back layer with respect to the height (H) of the gallery. Although these two lengths are physically different, they are genuinely linked, particularly due to the indirect effect of buoyancy of the airflow. Results The following study was conducted using the results obtained from 3D digital simulations. Influence of the intensity of the fire on the length of the back layer An initial series of simulations was conducted for two convected intensities of 184 and 249 kW. The flow velocity was 0.97 m/s for all simulations. The graph opposite shows the development of the dimensionless length of the back layer (Lc/H) plotted against the dimensionless jet injection velocity (Vjet/Vd). • Le rapport (Vd/Vc) qui caractérise Based on the previous data, a number of dimensionless numbers were used in this research: • The ratio (Vjet/Vd), representing the ratio of the jet dynamic to the flow rate in the gallery. • The ratio (Vd/Vc), expressing the ratio of the air current in the gallery to the ventilation velocity. When dimensioning a ventilation system, this information may be used to define the stratification capacity of an airflow and the notion of confinement of a layer of smoke (the air velocity that allows a flow of smoke to be halted). Le graphe ci- model and in the simulations. The gallery was open at one end (below the jet apparatus), thereby allowing plume conservation to be preserved in the model. For the stronger fire of 249 kW, at identical flow and jet ejection velocities, the back layer is longer than for the 184 kW fire. Back layer length and flow velocity. 414 M TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 velocity increases the length of the back layer. Influence of the flow on the length of the back layer Increasing the flow velocity results in a decrease in the length of the plume due to an increase in the kinetic energy in the fresh air flow. Moreover, altering the jet ejection velocity results in different lengths of back layer. In order to have results that are independent of this effect, the following digital simulations (graph a) were initially conducted for a fixed jet velocity/flow velocity ratio of Vjet/Vd = 2.5. The graph a shows changes in the dimensionless length of the back layer (Lc/H) plotted against dimensionless flow velocity/critical velocity (Vd/Vc). For the two intensities of fire (300 kW and 740 kW), an increase in the flow velocity results in a shorter plume, for a constant jet injection/flow velocity ratio. When a jet is applied, increasing the flow velocity results in a shorter back flow for all intensities of fire. However, for equivalent Vjet/Vd and Vd/Vc ratios, increasing the intensity of the fire appears not to have any significant impact on the length of the back flow. In order to estimate the role of the Vjet/Vd ratio (here kept constant) on this result, the following 3D simulations were conducted with differing ratios. The graph b shows changes in the dimensionless length of the back layer plotted against dimensionless flow velocity, for a fire intensity of 740 kW, and two different Vjet/Vd ratios of 1.5 and 2.5 respectively. For these two ratios, for any given fire intensity, an increase in the flow velocity results in a shorter back layer. Increasing the Vjet/Vd ratio results in the length of the back layer decreasing slightly. However, for both Vjet/Vd ratios (1.5 and 2.5), the back layer lengths are similar for the same Vd/Vc ratio. An increase in the flow velocity results in a decrease of the back layer length for all Vjet/Vd ratios. For different Vjet/Vd ratios, the back layer lengths appear to be the same provided the Vd/Vc ratio is unchanged. b : Longueur de la nappe de retour en fonction de la vitesse débitante / Length of back layer and flow velocity. From the two previous comparisons, it would appear that the back layer length is directly linked to the Vd/Vc parameter, irrespective of fire intensity and any increase in the Vjet/Vd ratio. This is summarised in the c graph. This graph c shows changes in the dimensionless back layer compared to dimensionless flow velocity, for two fire intensities of fire and for varying jet ejection velocity/flow velocity ratios. The length of the smoke plume remains relatively unchanged irrespective of the Vd/Vc ratio. For short smoke plumes (when Vd/Vc = 1.8), the relatively large spread of results is Influence of jet ejection velocity on back layer length The previous paragraph shows the influence of flow velocity on the length of the back layer and the important influence of the Vd/Vc ratio on the relative stability of its length. The impact on the length of the plume is related in particular to the jet dynamic, and thus to the distribution of the velocity profile across the height of the tunnel. The graph d shows changes in the dimensionless length of the back layer compared to the ratio between jet ejection velocity and flow velocity (Vjet/Vd). The fire intensity was 740 kW in these simulations. Simulations were conducted for flow velocities of 1.26, 1.6 and 1.89 m/s. To study the impact of jet ejection velocity on the plume, three simulations were conducted for each flow velocity. The dotted lines connect simulations with a constant Vd/Vc ratio. For a given dimensionless flow velocity, the greater the jet ejection velocity, the shorter the length of the plume. Moreover, the difference between the length of plume for weak and strong jets increases as the flow velocity decreases. In other words, the longer the plume length, the greater the impact of the jet, even if this remains relatively slight. Stratification ofthe back layerNewman’s parameter is used to determine whether the back layer is stratified: In this formula, Tc is the temperature adjacent to the ceiling, at a height of 0.88 H, Tf is the temperature adjacent the floor at a height of 0.12 H, Th is the temperature of the back layer and To is the ambient temperature. This parameter provides information about the amplitude of the temperature differential. As S tends to 0, the plume is destratified. This means that the smoke has invaded the entire cross-section of the tunnel. As S tends to 1, the temperature adjacent to the floor is very close to the ambient temperature. This means that the smoke plume is stratified close to the ceiling. For all the digital simulations in this back layer research, this stratification parameter remained close to 0.99. Back layer stratification was thus maintained, even when jets were used. • L’introduction du jet (hors zone enfumée) ne conduit pas inévitablement à la déstratification de la nappe de retour. t The similarity of the results of the experimental tests and the simulations demonstrated that the digital model could reproduce these experiments. The digital simulations conducted made it possible to carry out parametric research into the influence of fire intensity, tunnel flow velocity and jet ejection velocity on the length of the back layer. The results were as follows: • The greater the intensity of the fire, the shorter the length of the back layer tends to be. • Increasing the flow velocity results in a decrease of the length of the back layer, irrespective of the Vjet/Vd ratio and the intensity of the fire. • The length of the back layer appears to be directly correlated to the Vd/Vc parameter, irrespective of the intensity of the fire (in this study) or any increase in the Vjet/Vd ratio. Increasing the jet ejection velocity results in a slight decrease in the length of the back layer, irrespective of the intensity of the fire and the flow velocity. Elle présente une grande résistance aux impacts, et à l’humidité ; elle permet un nettoyage largement amélioré et un meilleur vieillissement visuel mais le prix, naturellement plus élevé, conduit à un investissement amortissable sur environ 10 ans. t 4 3 422 M TUNNELS ET ESPACE SOUTERRAIN - n°239 - Septembre/Octobre 2013 423_424agenda_Mise en page 1 12/11/13 14:56 Page423 AGENDA/CALENDAR 9 au 13 novembre 2013 17th IRF World Meeting and Exhibition RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA www.irf2013.org 10 au 14 novembre 2013 17th IRF World Meeting and Exhibition RIYADH, SAU irf2013.org JUIN 2014 11 au 13 juin 2014 MARS Swiss Tunnel Congress LUCERNE, SUISSE www.swisstunnel.ch 12 au 14 mars 2014 6th International Symposium on Tunnel Safety and Security - ISTSS 2014 MARSEILLE, FRANCE www.istss.se 11 au 13 juin 2014 15-16 novembre 2013 AVRIL International workshop on Performance-based specification and control of concrete durability ZAGREB, CROATIE www.rilem.org TAC - Rock Tunnelling Workshop VANCOUVER, CAN www.tunnelcanada.ca 14 au 17 avril 2014 11 au 13 juin 2014 5th Transport Research Arena TRA 2014 - Transport Solutions: from Research to Deployment - Innovate Mobility, Mobilise Innovation!
