From Edwards to Milne-Edwards … EDWARDS Family A long lineage of Edwards's, going back to at least 15'th Century, originally from Westbury, Wiltshire, England. Some of them went to Jamaica, in the West Indies, where they were successful, as well as wealthy, Sugar Cane farmers. A few of them returned to Europe in the 1780's and 1790's, as for example: Bryan EDWARDS * William EDWARDS Élisabeth VAUX (1743–1800). Cousin to William EDWARDS., whose only surviving son Zachary Hume EDWARDS, died 1812. (1746–1823). Had loads of Children! Some sources claim 25 other 29! Two of them were William Frederick EDWARDS and Henri Milne EDWARDS. French, second wife of William Edwards and mother of (among others?) Henri Milne EDWARDS, who was her second child. . William Frederick EDWARDS Henri Milne EDWARDS Laure TREZEL (1777–1842), botanist, ethnologist. Son of William EDWARDS and his first wife; Jeanne Thomas. Older, halfbrother to Henri Milne EDWARDS. Born in (the, at that time, French town) Bruges (today's Brügge, in Belgium) 23 October 1800. To separate himself from all other Edward´s he later sometimes used the name "Milne-Edwards". Died in Paris 29 July 1885. (1801–1842). French, wife of Henri Milne EDWARDS whom she married in 1923. they had four surviving (out of 9) Children, the fourth being Alphonse … * Not to be confused with: Sir Bryan EDWARDS (1796–1876), Chief Justice of Jamaica. In his youth he was (only) known as Alphonse EDWARDS . Later changed his name (by adding the second first name of his celebrated Father to the Family Name) as : Alphonse MILNE-EDWARDS.
