the French population like Christmas
because it is a family festival, 40%
because it is a celebration for children,
30% like it for the presents they
receive and 23% because it is a
religious festival. (the people
questioned may have given more than
one answer). It was the Americans
who brought Santa Claus to France in
1945. Before that, there was SaintNicolas in North-East France, Père
Janvier in the Center, Tante Arie in the
East of France and Vieille Année in the
North.

There are Christmas markets all over
France and in many town and cities in
Europe and America. The Christmas
market in Strasbourg is the most
famous and the oldest in France. These
markets date back to the fourteenth
century in Germany and Alsace, and
were called Saint Nicolas markets. The
first Strasbourg Christmas market was
established in 1570! You can find
everything to do with Christmas :
decorations, presents, foods and drinks.
There are lights, music and a great
atmosphere at these markets.

translated into 65 languages. According
to the magazine Advertising Age, the
total value of the Harry Potter brand is
estimated at $15 billion. The first five
movies have taken a combined income
of $4.48 billion. A theme park, The
Wizarding World of Harry Potter is being
created in Orlando, Florida and should
open its door at the end of 2009 or in
early 2010.
