UNIVERSA LAUS MEETING 2013
Worth Abbey, England – 19–23 August
50 years after Sacrosanctum Concilium
Universa Laus is the international study group for liturgical music founded by the late
Father Joseph Gelineau SJ and others in 1966. It comprises liturgists and musicians from
over a dozen countries.
This year is will be assessing the situation and future of liturgical music 50 years after
the promulgation of the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution on the Liturgy,
Sacrosanctum Concilium.
The principal speakers will be:



Rev Giuseppe Ruggieri, professor emeritus of theology in Catania, former
member of the editorial board of Concilium, author of Ritrovare il Concilio
[Rediscover the Council] (Einaudi, Turin, 2012), who will give a theological
appraisal
Rev Jan Michael Joncas, associate professor at the University of St Thomas, St
Paul, Minnesota, USA and lecturer in liturgical studies at the University of Notre
Dame, Indiana, USA, who will provide a musical appraisal
Rev Aidan Rossiter CJ, recent parish priest of SS Mary & Joseph, Poplar,
London, and former lecturer in liturgy at the Mill Hill Institute and Allen Hall
seminary, London, who will offer a pastoral appraisal
There will be workshops and discussion groups in several languages and on various
themes.
The prices for attendance and residential accommodation are given on the booking form.
Prices for non-residential attendance are available on request.
It is possible to stay on at the end of the course until Saturday morning 24th August, for
an additional charge. However, this year it is not possible accommodate participants
before Monday 19th.
Travel
Worth Abbey is situated 7½ miles (12 km) from Gatwick Airport. From Gatwick, one can
take a local train to Three Bridges station, from which a shuttle service by car will be
available.
There are also direct First Capital Connect trains to Three Bridges from Luton Airport
Parkway and from London St Pancras (for passengers arriving by Eurostar train).
Participants are encouraged to book their travel as soon as possible, since Friday 23rd
August is the beginning of a long holiday weekend in England.
