Chères amies,
chers amis,
En avril dernier, nous avons célébré d’un
commun accord les succès remarquables
de nos étudiants et étudiantes, diplômés
de l’Université Saint-Paul. Il faisait bon de
les reconnaître et de remercier tous ceux
et celles qui les avaient appuyés tout au
long de leurs études. Nous avons décerné
du même coup un doctorat honorifique
au lieutenant-général et sénateur Roméo
A. Dallaire, en reconnaissant par là sa
contribution importante au développement
de notre sens du devoir éthique et de
notre effort constant en faveur de solutions
équitables aux conflits violents. À cet égard,
le discours qu’il adressait à nos diplômés
était fort inspirateur.
Au cours de la même cérémonie, nous
avons exprimé notre profonde gratitude
à Son Excellence l’Archevêque, Mgr
Marcel Gervais, pour les services avisés et
généreux qu’il a rendus à l’Université SaintPaul, à titre de Chancelier durant 18 ans,
en fait depuis 1989. Il a fait preuve d’un
leadership extraordinaire en nous guidant
et en collaborant avec nous, dans les bons
moments tout autant que dans les périodes
plus exigeantes. Sa visée et son souci
incontournables ont toujours été le bienêtre de notre communauté universitaire,
et particulièrement nos étudiants et
étudiantes.
Lors de cette cérémonie, j’ai exprimé
dans mon discours l’espoir que nos
étudiants et étudiantes auront su trouver
leur expérience à l’Université Saint-Paul
enrichissante, satisfaisante et dynamique,
tout au long de leur préparation à occuper
des rôles de leadership dans
l’Église et la société.
Fédérés avec fierté
à l’Université d’Ottawa,
nous, de Saint-Paul,
œuvrons ici à améliorer
sans cesse l’expérience de
nos étudiants et étudiantes.
À cet effet, nous sommes
en train de développer
un plan stratégique pour
l’Université et nous avons
déjà ainsi pris des mesures
concrètes visant à continuer de faire
de Saint-Paul un site d’études toujours
meilleur.
Par exemple, nos Facultés ont lancé
avec succès une série de nouveaux pro
grammes : à la Faculté de théologie, un
programme de doctorat en ministère; à
la Faculté de philosophie, un certificat
d’études supérieures et une maîtrise en
éthique des affaires; à la Faculté de droit
canonique, trois nouveaux certificats
d’études supérieures en droit canonique,
en administration ecclésiastique et
en pratique canonique; à la Faculté des
sciences humaines, un programme de
baccalauréat en études de conflits, de
concert avec l’Université d’Ottawa. Et nous
sommes assez fiers de souligner que notre
Faculté de théologie s’apprête à offrir le
baccalauréat ecclésiastique en théologie
aux étudiants de l’Oblate School of Theology
de San Antonio, Texas, États-Unis, suite au
plan d’affiliation ecclésiastique de l’Oblate
School à l’Université Saint-Paul.

Dear Friends,
This past April we celebrated together
the wonderful accomplishments of our
Saint Paul University graduating students.
It was great to recognize their success
and to thank all those who helped them
over the course of their studies. We also
granted an honorary doctorate to LGen.
the Honourable Roméo A. Dallaire (Ret’d),
Senator, in recognition of his important
contributions to our developing sense of
ethical obligation and our growing concern
for the fair resolution of violent conflicts.
His address to our graduating students was
most inspiring.
During this same celebration we
expressed our deep gratitude to His Grace,
Archbishop Marcel Gervais, for his wise
and generous service as Chancellor of Saint
Paul University for 18 years, since 1989.
He has provided extraordinary leadership
as he guided us and worked with us in good
times and in more challenging times. His
overriding goal and concern has always
been the well-being of our University
community and especially of our students.
In my address during the ceremony
I expressed my hope that our students
have found their experience at Saint Paul
University enriching, fulfilling and enabling
as they prepared for roles of leadership in
church and society.
In proud federation with the University
of Ottawa, we here at Saint Paul are
working to make the experience of our
students ever better. To this end we are
developing a strategic plan for Saint Paul
University and have already taken some
concrete steps to continue making Saint
Paul an ever better place to study.
For example, our Faculties have
successfully launched a series of new
programs: the Faculty of Theology, a
Doctorate of Ministry program; the Faculty
of Philosophy, a Graduate Certificate and a
Master of Arts in Public Ethics; the Faculty of
Canon Law, three new graduate certificates
respectively in Canon Law, Ecclesiastical
Administration and Canonical Practice; the
Faculty of Human Sciences, a B.A. program
in Conflict Studies, in collaboration with
the University of Ottawa. And we are
proud to note that our Faculty of Theology
is planning on offering the ecclesiastical
Baccalaureate in Theology to students of
the Oblate School of Theology in San
Antonio, Texas, on the basis of a proposed
ecclesiastical affiliation of the Oblate
School with Saint Paul University.

Je continue à rendre service comme
présidente de notre Association. Notre
Association des anciens et anciennes
n’existe que pour autant qu’elle maintient
nos liens avec les diplômés de Saint-Paul,
et pour ce faire, je tiens à exprimer ma
reconnaissance à tous les membres de
l’Exécutif qui ont su enrichir nos rencontres
cette année et nous aider à mettre en
œuvre les réalisations suivantes :
Le banquet et la célébration en
l’honneur de la Révérende Capitaine
Michele Staples, ancienne de l’année
2006 fut, à divers égards, un événement
particulièrement significatif. Saint-Paul
célébrait en effet ses 25 ans à titre de
centre d’études théologiques au bénéfice de
l’Église anglicane d’Ottawa. La Révérende
Capitaine Michelle Staples représente
éminemment bien une ancienne de ce
programme d’études anglicanes. Elle fait
figure en même temps d’une merveilleuse
aumônière militaire.
Au cours des Retrouvailles 2006,
nous avons organisé un dîner spécial où
nous avons accueilli nombre d’anciens
et d’anciennes. Nous avons parcouru la
bibliothèque et la nouvelle résidence
universitaire, tout autant que la Librairie
Saint-Paul & Canterbury House
Bookstore.
À la clôture solennelle de l’année
académique, des membres de l’Association
étaient encore présents pour accueillir les
finissants, célébrer avec eux et leur offrir
les écharpes commémoratives de leurs
facultés.
L’Association des anciens et anciennes
a attribué cette année deux bourses de
1 000 $ chacune.
Nous avons tenu deux « ventes de
garage » visant à ramasser des fonds pour
notre programme de bourses. La prochaine
est prévue pour le 16 juin 2007.
J’aimerais encourager chacun et
chacune de vous à favoriser nos con
nexions. Contactez-nous par courriel ou

par la poste si vous pensez pouvoir nous
offrir quelques heures de bénévolat, ou
peut-être nous suggérer des moyens de
promouvoir nos valeurs et nos initiatives
académiques.
Nous nous ferons un plaisir de
continuer à travailler à la promotion de
notre Association en 2007–2008. Nous
aimerions bien garder contact avec vous

Dear Alumnae
and Alumni,
I continue to serve as president of our
Association. Our Alumni and Alumnae
Association exists so that we can remain
in contact with Saint Paul graduates
and rekindle this connection. I wish to
express my gratitude to all the executive
members this year, who have enriched our
meetings and helped us with the following
accomplishments:
Banquet and celebration
in honour of Rev. Captain
Michele Staples, Alumna
of the Year 2006: it was
a particularly significant
moment for several reasons.
Saint Paul was celebrating
25 years as theological
centre for the Anglican
Church in Ottawa. Rev.
Captain Michele Staples is
a wonderful representative
of an Anglican alumna.
She also is a wonderful
representative of the military
chaplains.
During the 2006 homecoming, we
hosted a special luncheon where we met
many alumni and alumnae. We had a tour
of the Library and the new residence as
well as a visit to the new Librairie SaintPaul & Canterbury House Bookstore.
Solemn Closing of the Academic
Year: once again, members of the Alumni
and Alumnae Association were on hand to
greet and celebrate with finishing students
and offer colourful, commemorative
Faculty scarves as part of the ceremony.
Bursaries: the Alumni and Alumnae
Association awarded two bursaries this
year, each for $1,000.
Fundraising: We had two garage sales
to raise funds for our bursaries. Our next
public Garage Sale is scheduled for June
16, 2007.
I would like to encourage each of
you to help us stay connected. E-mail or
write to us if you think you could give us
a few volunteer hours, or perhaps offer
suggestions you may have to promote our
values and academic initiatives.
It is my wish that the Association
create a network so we can promote the
values and skills we developed here and
increase our effectiveness through our
collective abilities. Our Association will
continue to serve you.
It will be a pleasure to contribute
to the promotion of our Association in
2007–2008. We would like to keep in
touch with you.

Le parcours professionnel de M. Alain
Gourd est impressionnant. En plus d’être
haut fonctionnaire, il a exercé un lea
dership entrepreneurial important dans le
domaine des communications sur les plans
national et international.
Avocat et détenteur d’un baccalauréat
en philosophie de l’Université Saint-Paul,
Alain Gourd a acquis une solide expérience
dans le domaine des communications.
De 2001 à 2004, Monsieur Gourd a
occupé le poste de vice-président exécutif
des services généraux de Bell Globemedia.
Avant de se joindre à cette entreprise,
il a été président et chef de la direction
de BCE Média. De 1994 à 1998, il a
présidé Cancom, société spécialisée dans
les services de communications et de radio
diffusion par satellite.
Alain Gourd a également occupé
plusieurs postes importants au sein de la
fonction publique fédérale, dont sousministre des communications et secrétaire
associé du cabinet et sous-greffier du
Conseil privé.
En 1981, M. Gourd a été nommé
président et directeur de Radiodiffusion
Mutuelle Canada Ltée et vice-président
de Civitas Ltée. Il avait déjà été présidentdirecteur général et administrateur du
Groupe Radio Nord Communications.
M. Gourd avait été précédemment avo
cat et professeur de philosophie et de
droit à l’Université d’Ottawa. Il dirige
maintenant sa propre entreprise, Alain
Gourd Communications.
Malgré un horaire des plus chargé,
il n’a jamais hésité à s’engager au sein
d’une longue liste d’associations et de
corporations. Il siège présentement à
six conseils d’administration à titre de
président, de vice-président ou de membre,
dont ceux, de TQS, de la Fondation
du Festival de télévision de Banff et de
la Fondation du musée canadien de la
radiodiffusion. Il a aussi été vice-président
du Conseil du Centre canadien du film et
président des conseils de Canal Evasion, du
Outdoor Life Network et de l’Association
canadienne des radiodiffuseurs. Alain
Gourd a toujours accordé une place
importante à l’enseignement supérieur.
Il a notamment fait partie des membres
fondateurs de l’Université du Québec en
Outaouais.
Plus récemment, il a contribué à
l’avancement de la recherche universi
taire et au transfert des connaissances,
notamment par sa participation à titre
de président du Conseil de l’Institut de
recherche-création en arts et technologies
médiatiques Hexagram, qui est affilié à
l’UQAM et à l’université Concordia.
Il a également participé à la création
d’une Chaire de recherche en journalisme
scientifique à l’Université Laval lorsqu’il
était à Bell Globemedia.

atouts les plus précieux et une des plus
grandes sources de qualité de vie face à
un cancer que j’ai surmonté à ce jour... »

Alain Gourd’s professional career is
nothing short of overwhelming. Aside
from holding several high-ranking federal
government positions, Mr. Gourd excels
as an entrepreneur in the communications
sector, nationally and internationally.
A lawyer with a baccalaurate in
Philosophy from Saint Paul University,
Mr. Gourd went on to become a leader in
communications.
From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Gourd held
the position of executive vice-president
for Bell Globemedia. Before this, he was
president and CEO of BCE Media. From
1994 to 1998, he presided over Cancom,
Canada’s leading provider of business
satellite services.
Mr. Gourd has held successive
prominent positions with the federal
government, such as communications
deputy minister, associate secretary to

the cabinet and deputy clerk of the Privy
Council.
In 1981, Mr. Gourd was named
president and CEO of Radiodiffusion
Mutuelle Canada Ltée and vice-president
of Civitas Ltée. Previous to this he had
held the position of president and CEO
of Radio Nord Communications. Earlier
in his career Mr. Gourd was professor of
Philosophy and Law at the University
of Ottawa. Today, he manages his own
company, Alain Gourd Communications.
Despite a hectic schedule, Mr. Gourd
has always maintained an active role in
a number of for-profit and not-for-profit
organizations. He is currently involved
with the board of directors of six different
organizations, either as president, vicepresident or member, including TQS,
Banff Television Festival Foundation
and the Canadian Broadcast Museum
Foundation. He has held the position of
vice-president, Canadian National Film
Board, and president, Canal Evasion, the
Outdoor Life Network and the Canadian
Association of Broadcasters.
Along the way, Alain Gourd
has always maintained an interest and
involvement in higher education. Among
other accomplishments, he is a founding
member of l’Université du Québec en
Outaouais.
More recently, Mr. Gourd has been
involved in research advancement in the
University sector, particularly in his role
as president of Hexagram, the Institute
for Research/Creation in Media Arts and
Technologies, affiliated with the Université
du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and
Concordia University. He also played a
key role in the establishment of a Research
Chair in scientific journalism at Université
Laval while at Bell Globemedia.
“The spiritual values I learned while
attending Saint Paul University [...] have
been for me both one of the greatest assets
and one of the greatest sources of quality
of life in the face of cancer, of which I am
a survivor...” (Quote from speech made
October 29, 2005, on the occasion of his
receiving a doctorate honoris causa from the
Université du Québec en Outaouais.)

L’Université Saint-Paul est fière d’annoncer la création de la Chaire Mercy and
Presentation Sisters of Newfoundland en éducation religieuse et catéchèse ainsi que la
nomination de la professeure Miriam K. Martin comme première titulaire de la Chaire.
La Chaire Mercy and Presentation Sisters of Newfoundland a été établie grâce à un
important don d’un million de dollars des communautés Mercy and Presentation Sisters of
Newfounland. Soucieuse de promouvoir des activités liées avec leur mission tant au niveau
local, provincial que national et international, les communautés religieuses impliquées
souhaitent soutenir le travail de l’Université Saint-Paul dans les domaines de l’éducation
religieuse et de la catéchèse.

Depuis 1990, l’Institut Sheptytsky de
l’Université Saint-Paul a été en mesure
d’offrir des programmes de qualité en
Études chrétiennes orientales, grâce à la
générosité des donateurs de la Fondation
de l’Institut de Métropolite Andrey
Sheptytskty. En ajoutant le chèque
présenté par le Président de la Fondation,
Eugene Cherwick (à droite) au Recteur,
Dale M. Schlitt, de l’Université Saint-Paul
(à gauche), lors de la dernière réunion
générale annuelle de la Fondation,
l’ensemble des dons versés par celle-ci à
l’Université Saint-Paul dépasse maintenant
les quatre millions de dollars!

Cela peut paraître encore un autre projet
« briques et mortier » : en fait, c’en est un.
Mais c’est aussi beaucoup plus que cela...
Sans cet agrandissement, la biblio
thèque se trouvera sans cesse dans
l’obligation d’avoir à prendre des décisions
difficiles en ce qui a trait aux collections
présentes et aux acquisitions à venir...
l’espace aménagé en étagères et les espaces
alloués à la recherche constituent de plus
en plus un réel défi pour la bibliothèque
et les étudiants.
La bibliothèque représente le cœur
même de l’Université Saint-Paul. Les
étudiants, les professeurs et tous les
utilisateurs savent trop bien à quel point
elle est importante.
Nous avons besoin de votre aide.
Peut-être êtes-vous l’un ou l’une de ces
bienfaiteurs tombés du ciel qui sauraient
rendre possible le projet d’agrandissement
de la bibliothèque.

Saint Paul University is pleased to announce the establishment of The Mercy and
Presentation Sisters of Newfoundland Chair in Religious Education and Catechetics and
the appointment of Professor Miriam K. Martin as first holder of the Chair.
The Chair was established by a major gift of one million dollars from The Mercy and
Presentation Sisters of Newfoundland. The Sisters wish to support work in the areas of
religious education and catechetics at Saint Paul University as part of their overall efforts
on the local, provincial, national and international levels to promote activities in line with
their charisms and missions.

La vérité est que, durant ses 70 ans, il a
amassé tout un lot de vie – et d’humanité.
À cette étape de sa vie, il a décidé de
rembourser son alma mater, l’Université
Saint-Paul, une institution attachante
et une communauté œcuménique
d’éducation catholique qui a exercé une
influence profonde sur ses choix de vie
et d’action. Il a tout à la fois travaillé et
étudié – un étudiant parfaitement motivé
– à l’Université Saint-Paul d’Ottawa, avec
laquelle il entretient toujours des liens
solides.
Né à Cochrane (Ontario) en 1937,
il a été éduqué à Windsor et a gradué à
l’Université d’Ottawa (version antérieure
de Saint-Paul) en 1959, après quoi il s’est
engagé dans une carrière industrielle –
textiles, pâtes et papier, pharmaceutiques.
Marié et père de trois enfants – deux
garçons et une fille – il a été embauché
à l’Université Saint-Paul, dans les années
70, à titre de Directeur du personnel.
En 1976, sa vie s’est orientée vers un
cap imprévu. « j’étais très impliqué dans
plusieurs entreprises », remarque-t-il en
risquant un nombre, « parmi lesquelles
du travail pastoral ». Avec le temps, il
s’est joint à l’Institut Voluntas Dei, une
communauté séculière internationale de
clercs, laïcs célibataires et couples mariés
catholiques – au sein de l’Église catholique
romaine – qui se consacrent à Dieu et
tentent de répondre aux besoins du monde
moderne.
Après trois décennies au-delà de son
premier encadrement à l’intérieur d’une

salle de classe universitaire, il est retourné à
Saint-Paul en tant qu’étudiant et a décroché
un diplôme en théologie. Imaginez un
peu : un gars dans la cinquantaine, père
célibataire, retournant à ce qui était
devenu désormais un campus bilingue,
unique dans sa diversité, multiculturel,
œcuménique et fédéré avec l’Université
d’Ottawa. Les gens d’en face de la classe
lui parurent étonnamment familiers. En
réalité, des camarades de classe d’autrefois
étaient maintenant certains de ses
professeurs, religieux et laïcs. « pour moi,
ça faisait étrange ». Mais peut-être pas
une si grande surprise : « plusieurs de mes
camarades de classe de naguère, dans les
années 50, étaient assez engagés au sein
de Saint-Paul ».
Quelques-uns avaient été recteurs,
d’autres professeurs. Quelques autres
encore avaient siégé au Conseil d’admi
nistration. Voilà le genre d’engagement
qui ne saurait passer inaperçu. Yves a
donc complété son programme d’études
et a été ordonné prêtre en 1997. « Tous
mes enfants m’ont encouragé quand j’ai
avancé vers les vœux ». Depuis lors, il a
vécu sa vie de foi et a répondu à l’appel
de toutes sortes de façons, dont, par
exemple, cinq ans de ministère auprès des
personnes âgées et des gens en phase
terminale au Centre de santé
Élisabeth Bruyère.
Désormais, il réside
dans le secteur Hull
de Gatineau ; père de
trois enfants, il est le
Grand-papa de cinq
autres, et il avoue être
semi-retraîté. « Je suis
un frappeur de relève,
exerçant du ministère
de remplacement ».
Il se considère béni
de Dieu à plus d’un
égard. Tôt, un samedi
matin, il a déjà été
à son téléphone en
train d’arranger de A
à Z des funérailles
militaires en faveur
d’un vétéran de
guerre. Il est aumô
nier de la 59e Légion de Pointe-Gatineau
et de la 54e de Buckingham. Il s’étend
maintenant sur les nombreuses raisons
qui l’amènent à laisser à l’Université
Saint-Paul un legs testamentaire. En plus
de reconnaître ses liens antérieurs avec
l’institution, il désire aussi faire sa part
pour l’avenir de l’Université. « Ils ont
de grands besoins d’aide financière aux
étudiants et étudiantes ». Yves P. Masse
vise à servir d’exemple que nous pourrions
imiter, en redonnant à l’Université et en
faisant ainsi une différence.

Yves P. Masse chuckles when he
describes himself as an “oddity.” A lot of
people might choose other identifiers:

Maverick
Renaissance man
Good guy
Truth is, in his 70 years, he’s packed
in a lot of living – and humanity.
At this point in his life, he’s decided
to give back to his alma mater – Saint Paul
University, a beloved institution and an
ecumenical Catholic education community
that has had a profound impact on how he
has chosen to act and to be. He has both
worked and studied – as a very mature
student – at the University of Ottawa, and
his ties to Saint Paul remain strong.
Born in Cochrane, Ontario, in 1937,
he was raised in Windsor and graduated
from the University of Ottawa (the
forerunner of Saint Paul University) in
1959, after which he embarked
on a career in industry
– textiles, pulp and paper,
and pharmaceuticals. He
married and had three
children – two boys
and a girl – and, in the
1970s, was employed at
Saint Paul as Director of
Personnel Services. In
1976, his life veered in
unforeseen directions.
“I was quite involved
in many endeavours,”
he notes, mentioning
a number, including
“pastoral works.” In
time he became a
member of Voluntas
Dei Institute, a
worldwide secular
fellowship of clerics,
celibate laymen and
married
Catholic
couples – within the Roman Catholic
Church – who give themselves to God
and answer to the needs of the modern
world.
And, about three decades after his
first stint in a university classroom, he
went back to Saint Paul as a student and
got a degree in theology. Just imagine:
a 50ish fellow, a single father, returning
to what was now a uniquely diverse,
multicultural, multifaith, bilingual campus,
federated with the University of Ottawa.
The folks at the front of the classrooms
looked awfully familiar. In fact, fellow
students of yesteryear were now some of
his professors, both religious and lay. “It
was bizarre to me.” But perhaps not such
a surprise: “A lot of my former classmates
from the ’50s were quite involved with
Saint Paul.”
Some have been rectors, some have
been professors. Some have sat on the
Council of Administration. It’s the kind of
commitment that doesn’t go unnoticed.
Yves completed his program of studies
and was ordained a priest in 1997. “All
my children encouraged me when I was
going through my vows.” Since then, he
has lived his faith and answered his calling
in many ways, including five years spent
ministering to the aged and the dying at
Élisabeth Bruyère Health Centre.
Today, he lives in the Hull area of
Gatineau. He’s the father of three, grandpapa of five, and says he’s semi-retired.
“I’m a pinch hitter, doing replacement
ministry.” He considers himself blessed in
many ways. Early on a Saturday morning,
he’s already been on the phone making
arrangements for a full military funeral
for a war vet. He’s Padre of the Legion
#59 Pointe-Gatineau and Legion #54
Buckingham. Now he’s talking about his
many reasons for leaving a bequest in
his will to Saint Paul University. Besides
recognizing his background with the
institution, he also wants to do his part
for the future of the University. “There’s
a great need for financial assistance for
students.” Yves P. Masse aims to serve as
an example for us to follow – in giving
back and making a difference.
“I encourage others to do the same,”
he says, “whether alumni or not.”

L
e lieutenant-général et sénateur, Roméo A. Dallaire, a connu une
carrière distinguée dans les Forces armées canadiennes. Il a occupé
le rang de lieutenant-général et, en 1998, a été nommé sous-ministre
adjoint (ressources humaines) au ministère de la Défense nationale. En
1994, le général Dallaire a commandé la Mission des Nations Unies pour
l’assistance au Rwanda (MINUAR). Son livre : J’ai serré la main du diable : La
faillite de l’humanité au Rwanda, qui décrit ses expériences au Rwanda, a reçu en
2004 le Prix littéraire du gouverneur général pour un ouvrage de non-fiction.
Il lui a également mérité plusieurs prix littéraires internationaux et inspirera un
long métrage qui sera à l’affiche en 2007.
Depuis sa retraite des Forces canadiennes, le lieutenant-général Dallaire
s’efforce de sensibiliser la population canadienne au syndrome de stress posttraumatique. Il a également été chargé de cours invité de plusieurs universités
canadiennes et américaines et a écrit de nombreux articles et chapitres sur la
résolution des conflits, l’aide humanitaire et les droits de la personne. En outre, il
a fait des recherches sur la résolution des conflits et sur les enfants soldats grâce à
une bourse de recherche du Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, Kennedy School
of Government, de l’Université Harvard.
Le sénateur Dallaire a reçu plusieurs prix et honneurs. Il a notamment été reçu
officier de l’Ordre du Canada en 2002 et grand officier de l’Ordre national du Québec
en 2005, et a obtenu le prix Aegis pour la prévention du génocide (Royaume-Uni). En
2005, il a reçu de l’Association canadienne pour les Nations Unies, la Médaille Pearson
pour la paix. Le lieutenant-général Dallaire a été nommé au Sénat en 2005.
Pendant son allocution, le 15 avril 2007, le sénateur Dallaire a mis au défi les
nouveaux diplômés de reconnaître l’humanité en tous et chacun des êtres humains. Son
appel a touché toute l’assistance et concordait parfaitement avec l’esprit des programmes
d’études de l’Université Saint-Paul autour de la justice sociale.

L
ieutenant General the Honourable Roméo A.
Dallaire, (Ret’d), Senator, has had a distinguished
career in the Canadian military, achieving the
rank of Lieutenant General and becoming Assistant
Deputy Minister (Human Resources) in the Department
of National Defence in 1998. In 1994, General Dallaire
commanded the United Nations Assistance Mission for
Rwanda (UNAMIR). His book on his experiences in
Rwanda, entitled Shake Hands with the Devil: The Failure
of Humanity in Rwanda, was awarded the Governor
General’s Literary Award for Non-Fiction in 2004.
It has garnered numerous international literary
awards, and will be the basis of a full-length
feature film scheduled to be released in 2007.
Since his retirement from the military,
Senator Dallaire has worked to bring an
understanding of post-traumatic stress disorder
to the public. He has also been a visiting
lecturer at several Canadian and American
universities, and has written several articles and
chapters in publications on conflict resolution,
humanitarian assistance and human rights. As
a Fellow of the Carr Center for Human Rights
Policy, Kennedy School of Government at
Harvard University, he pursued research on
conflict resolution and the use of child soldiers.
Senator Dallaire has received numerous
honours and awards, including Officer of the
Order of Canada in 2002, Grand Officer of
the National Order of Québec in 2005, and
the Aegis Award for Genocide Prevention from
the Aegis Trust (United Kingdom). In 2005
he received the United Nations Association of
Canada’s Pearson Peace Medal. LGen. Dallaire
(Ret’d) was appointed to the Senate in 2005.
During the ceremony on April 15, 2007,
Senator Dallaire challenged graduands to
recognize the humanity of each and every human
being. His inspiring talk profoundly affected all
present and fit well with the various areas of
social justice studies being developed at Saint
Paul University.

This project was awarded a $47,375
research grant by the Canadian Institutes
of Health Research (CIHR). Dr. GuirguisYounger has already obtained a number of
research grants from external agencies,
including CIHR, Social Sciences and
Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)
and the City of Ottawa. This new grant
will allow her to further her already
significant expertise in the fields of
homelessness and end-of-life care.

Dr. Perrin was an Associate Professor of
Spirituality and Ethics in the Faculty of
Theology at Saint Paul University, where
he also served as Dean of the Faculty.
From 2002 to 2003, Dr. Perrin was the
Provincial of the St. Peter’s Province
of the Oblates. St. Jerome’s University
was established by the Congregation of
the Resurrection in 1865 and became
federated with the University of Waterloo
in 1960. It offers programs in liberal arts
and mathematics.

the priesthood in the Ukrainian Catholic

The Ottawa Hospital. Fr. Zenon and his

Madame Rita Girard est décédée au Centre de santé de Laval
le 24 décembre dernier. Madame Girard a été successivement
secrétaire du Recteur, puis agente de développement de
l’Université Saint-Paul. Elle était l’un des membres fondateurs de
l’Association des anciens et anciennes de l’Université Saint-Paul.
Elle laisse dans le deuil ses deux fils, Normand et Robert Wallot,
sa fille Sylvie Wallot, et leurs enfants.
C’est avec grand regret que nous annonçons le décès de
M. Pierre Clément, qui a tenu le poste de technicien en
audiovisuel et informatique à l’Université Saint-Paul entre 1982
et 1996. M. Clément est décédé le samedi 17 février 2007. Il
avait 47 ans.

Le Primat de l’Église anglicane du
Canada de passage à l’Université
Saint-Paul
Le jeudi 16 novembre 2006, le Primat de
l’Église anglicane du Canada, Monseigneur
Andrew Hutchison, a rendu visite à
l’Université Saint-Paul dans le cadre de
sa tournée des institutions canadiennes
impliquées dans la formation et l’ensei
gnement théologique des anglicans qui se
préparent à exercer un ministère.
La visite de Monseigneur Hutchison fut
particulièrement appréciée puisque cette
année marque le 25e anniversaire de
l’entente entre l’Université et le Diocèse
anglican d’Ottawa.
La Faculté de théologie accueille
trois sociétés savantes

Le
congrès annuel de l’Association
catholique des études bibliques au Canada
(ACÉBAC), s’est tenu pour la première
fois à l’Université Saint-Paul du 28 au
31 mars 2007. Environ 40 participants,
dont plusieurs étudiants invités des 2e et
3e cycles de la Faculté de théologie, se
sont réunis pour entendre des conférences
de haut niveau.

programme de Doctorat en
théologie pratique
Lors d’un banquet tenu à l’Hôtel Westin
d’Ottawa le 19 octobre 2006, la Faculté
de théologie, en collaboration avec la
Dr. Andrew Irvine, Toronto School of Theology

Faculté des sciences humaines, lançait son
tout nouveau programme de Doctorat en
Théologie pratique. La fête rassemblait de
nombreux invités représentant l’aumônerie
militaire, carcérale et hospitalière, les
conseils scolaires, les diocèses anglican,
ukrainien, orthodoxe et catholique
romain.
FACULTÉ DE PHILOSOPHIE
ET LE CENTRE D’ÉTHIQUE
La Faculté de philosophie n’a pas chômé
ces derniers temps. Deux programmes de
pointe en éthique vont être inaugurés à
l’automne 2007 : une maîtrise en éthique
des affaires et un certificat en leadership
des Premières nations.
Les deux programmes visent à fournir à
leurs candidats les capacités de prise de
décision nécessaires à la prise en charge
des tâches éthiques de direction dans les
milieux pertinents.
La Faculté de philosophie a travaillé en
outre en rapport étroit avec le colloque
organisé par le Centre d’éthique, les 25, 26
et 27 octobre 2007, portant sur « L’éthique
et la sécurité nationale ». D’autre part, la
faculté s’emploie à préparer, de concert
avec l’Association canadienne Jacques
Maritain, deux conférences prévues fin mai
2007 à Saskatoon, sur « L’intelligibilité »,
et à Saint-Paul en octobre 2007, sur
« L’éthique et la loi naturelle ».
La Faculté de philosophie ne cesse de
modifier et d’améliorer ses programmes
déjà existants. Une addition digne de
mention : le placement coopératif qui
permet à des étudiants d’acquérir une
expérience de terrain valable tout en étant
rémunéré.
En dernier lieu, les étudiants et étudiantes
de philosophie à l’Université Saint-Paul
ont créé deux nouveaux organismes.
Le premier est Le Cénacle, un périodique
géré et révisé par les étudiants. Le Cénacle
va représenter pour les étudiants un
médium excellent pour exprimer leur
point de vue sur toute une gamme de
sujets philosophiques. Les étudiants de
philosophie ont encore mis sur pied le
Conseil des étudiants en éthique, destiné
à organiser des événements étudiants,
tout autant qu’à représenter un forum
d’information relatif aux programmes de
la Faculté de philosophie.
FACULTÉ DE DROIT
CANONIQUE
La première des trois sessions de for
mation légale pour le leadership des
instituts religieux a rassemblé plus de
160 participants en août 2006. Les pro
chaines sessions se tiendront en août 2007
et août 2008.
En novembre 2007, la Faculté organise
un Atelier pratique pour canonistes sur le
droit pénal de l’Église.
La Faculté continue à travailler sur un
Certificat d’Études Supérieures en droit
canonique destiné aux étudiants des
Facultés de droit et aux professionnels du
droit.
En collaboration avec les Chanceliers
et Chancelières du Québec, la Faculté
lance un nouveau Certificat d’aptitude
en droit canonique, un micro programme
destiné aux laïcs en ministère ecclésial,
aux diacres, etc. Les cours seront offerts à
Montréal aux sessions d’automne 2007 et
hiver 2008.

HUMAINES
Études de conflits et l’énoncé de
mission de l’Université
Baccalauréat ès arts en Études de
conflits
Septembre 2007 marquera le lancement
du B.A. en Études de conflits. Travailler
à promouvoir la paix, la justice sociale, le
dialogue entre les cultures et les religions,
ce sont là des objectifs qui sont au cœur
de la Mission même de l’Université et
auxquels elle veut répondre concrètement.
Ce programme se compose de trois groupes
de cours : des cours du tronc commun de
la Faculté des sciences humaines, des
cours spécialisés et des cours au choix. Ce
B.A. donnera un ancrage solide à l’actuel
programme de maîtrise du même nom.

Nouvelle appellation de la
revue Sciences pastorales et du
programme du même nom
Vingt-cinq ans après le lancement de
son premier numéro, la revue Sciences
pastorales arbore un visage nouveau sous
le titre Counseling et spiritualité. Ce
nouveau libellé correspond au nouveau
nom du programme auquel la revue
est greffée. En effet, le programme de
Sciences pastorales, dont les origines
remontent à plus de 30 ans, se nommera
à compter de septembre 2007 Counseling
et spiritualité.
Colloque sur l’évangélisation
Organisé à l’initiative du professeur Ronald
Young, le colloque intitulé Joindre l’Amérique
du Nord a eu lieu les 25 et 26 mai 2007
à l’Université Saint-Paul. Ce colloque
réunissait des orateurs de renom sur les
questions de mission et d’évangélisation
dans un monde sécularisé.
Conférence internationale sur la
spiritualité et santé mentale
Cette 3e conférence sur la spiritualité et la
santé mentale qui s’est tenue à l’Université
Saint-Paul du 3 au 5 mai 2007 portait
sur la quête de sens pour les familles, les
communautés religieuses et le système de
santé. Cette conférence a été organisée
par le département de psychiatrie de
l’Université d’Ottawa, la Faculté des
sciences humaines de l’Université SaintPaul ainsi que le Ontario Multifaith Council
on Spiritual and Religious Care.

elle une longue expérience en service à la
clientèle.
NOVALIS
La maison d’édition Novalis a pour
mission de proposer aux personnes qui
sont en quête de « nourriture spirituelle »
des ouvrages de qualité pour approfondir
et renouveler leur intelligence de la foi,
en lien avec la culture actuelle. Novalis

aussi variés que la théologie, la pastorale
proposer des ressources pour alimenter la
réflexion et la recherche autour de grandes
questions existentielles. Ces ouvrages
d’une centaine de pages, écrits par divers

découvrir ou à approfondir le point de
vue des chrétiens face à des sujets ou des

L’Université Saint-Paul devient
membre d’un consortium nordaméricain
L’Université Saint-Paul a été sélectionnée
par le Programme de mobilité nord-américaine
en éducation supérieure de l’Initiative de mobilité
académique internationale de Ressources humaines
et développement social Canada (RHDSC)
pour faire partie d’un consortium de neuf
universités canadiennes, américaines
et mexicaines voué, notamment, à la
mobilité étudiante internationale. Le
programme susmentionné vise à permettre
aux étudiants canadiens d’ajouter une
dimension culturelle et éducative nordaméricaine à leurs études par le truchement
de séjours à l’étranger.
Grâce à l’appui financier ainsi obtenu des
Ressources humaines et développement
social Canada (RHDSC), des étudiantes
et étudiants (sept au total) de l’Université
Saint-Paul pourront, au cours des trois
prochaines années, effectuer une partie
du programme d’études, auquel ils sont
inscrits à l’Université Saint-Paul, dans une
université américaine ou une université
mexicaine.
NOMINATION D’UNE
NOUVELLE RECTRICE À
L’ADMINISTRATION
En janvier 2007, Madame Chantal
Beauvais a été nommée vice-rectrice à
l’administration en remplacement de
Colin Levangie.
Mme Beauvais a obtenu son doctorat
en philosophie à l’Université d’Ottawa
en 2000. En 2001, elle a été embauchée
comme professeure à la Faculté de
philosophie de l’Université Saint-Paul.

Elle a œuvré à titre de doyenne de 2003
à 2006. En 2006, Mme Beauvais termine
les exigences d’un Diplôme d’études
supérieures spécialisées (D.E.S.S.) de
l’École nationale d’administration publique
(ÉNAP).
Au cours de sa carrière, Mme Beauvais
a occupé diverses fonctions au sein
d’organismes publics (Défense nationale,
Énergie Canada) et parapublics (Collège
royal des médecins et chirurgiens
d’Ottawa, Conseil national d’éthique en
recherche chez l’humain).
« Mon rêve
serait que
l’Université Saint-Paul puisse toujours être
succursale du Goethe-Institut Montréal
avec une concentration sur l’enseignement
de l’allemand. L’Université est fière
d’accueillir cette noble institution sur
son campus. Le partenariat entre l’Institut
et l’Université Saint-Paul présente un
nombre important d’avantages pour les
étudiants et étudiantes de même que pour
l’Université qui rayonnera par l’entremise
de l’activité de l’Institut Goethe.
CENTRAIDE 2006
Les membres du comité Centraide 2006
tiennent à remercier sincèrement les

La campagne 2006 a permis de recueillir

Cette association permettra aux étudiants
et étudiantes de l’Université Saint-Paul,
grâce à des séjours d’un an à l’étranger, de

de la recherche ainsi que d’enseigner

L’UNIVERSITÉ SAINT-PAUL
DANS LA COMMUNAUTÉ
Le groupe The Krewe of Elpis (Les lutins de
l’espoir), a joint les rangs des bénévoles
de l’organisme Operation Helping Hands,
fondé par Catholic Charities Archiocese of New
Orleans la Nouvelle-Orléans. Ces jeunes
adultes, dont six étudiants en théologie
à l’Université Saint-Paul, sont partis avec
enthousiasme pour aller nettoyer des
maisons suite au désastre de l’ouragan
Katrina.

On Thursday, November 16, 2006,
the Primate of the Anglican Church of
Canada, Archbishop Andrew Hutchison,
visited Saint Paul University as part of his
tour of all Canadian institutions involved
in theological education and formation of
Anglicans for ministry.
Archbishop Hutchison’s visit was most
welcome, especially since this year marks
the 25th anniversary of the agreement

A Visiting Scholar at the Faculty of
Theology
The Faculty of Theology and Saint Paul
University were honoured and privileged
to welcome as a research fellow during
the 2006–2007 academic year Professor
Gerhard van den Heever from the
Department of New Testament, School of
Religion and Theology, at the University
of South Africa.
The Faculty of Theology Hosts
Three Academic Meetings
From June 15 to 18, 2006, the University
and the Faculty hosted the regular summer
workshop of the team of biblical scholars
preparing the commentary series called
the “Rhetoric of Religious Antiquity,” of
which Professor Gregory Bloomquist is
a member due to his work in Sociorhetorical analysis. Seventeen scholars
from eastern Canada and the eastern
United States were housed and held their
meetings at the new residence.
The Faculties of Theology and of Canon
Law hosted the Symposium of the Peter
and Paul Seminar on March 15 and 16,
2007. During the Symposium, “The Local
Church and Its Leadership: Receiving
the Vision of Vatican II,” local and
international world-renowned scholars
as well as young scholars presented
theological and canonical papers.
The Faculty of Theology Officially
Launches Its New Doctor of
Ministry Program
At a banquet held at the Westin Hotel
on October 19, 2006, the new Doctor
of Ministry program of the Faculties
of Theology and of Human Sciences
was officially launched. Among those
present for the celebration were special
guests representing hospital chaplains;
correctional chaplains; military chaplains;
school boards; and Anglican, Ukrainian,
and Roman Catholic dioceses.
FACULTY OF PHILOSOPHY
AND THE ETHICS CENTRE
This has been a busy time for the Faculty
of Philosophy. Two unique programs in
ethics will be launched in the fall of 2007;
on the graduate level, a Master’s in Public
Ethics; on the undergraduate level, a First
Nations Certificate in Leadership.
Both programs clearly aim at providing
their graduates with the necessary decisionmaking skills for assuming leading ethical
roles in the workplace.
The Faculty of Philosophy has been
closely working with Saint Paul’s Ethics
Centre, holding roundtable events entitled
“Morality and International Relations” as
well as “The Public Service in the Age of
Scrutiny.” The Faculty and Ethics Centre
are also working on an international
conference, to be held on October 25
to 27, 2007, on “Ethics and National
Security.” Finally, the Faculty is working
closely with the Canadian Jacques Maritain
Association concerning two upcoming
conferences, one in Saskatoon in late
May 2007 on “Intelligibility” and one at
Saint Paul in October 2007 on “Ethics and
Natural Law.”
The Faculty of Philosophy continues
to modify and strengthen its existing
programs. A notable addition is the cooperative placement program, which
allows students to gain valuable work
experience in the field of ethics and to
earn money while doing so.
Finally, Saint Paul philosophy students
have been active in two ways. The first is
the publication of Le Cénacle, a student-run
and student-reviewed journal. Le Cénacle
will be an excellent vehicle for students
to express their views on a variety of
philosophical topics. Philosophy students
have also created the Ethics Students
Council, which will organize student
events as well as act as a forum for
information concerning the Faculty of
Philosophy’s programs.
FACULTY OF CANON LAW
The Faculty of Canon Law initiated a
new series of sessions in Legal Education
for religious leadership, a three-year
program that started in August 2006 with
approximately 160 participants. The next
sessions are in August 2007 and 2008.
A practical workshop on Penal Law for
canon lawyers will be held in November
2007.
The Faculty will soon offer a Graduate
Certificate in Canon Law aimed at students
of civil and common law and professionals
in various areas of law.
In cooperation with the Chancellors of
Quebec, the Faculty will offer a new
Certificate of Proficiency in Canon Law
for lay ministers, deacons, etc., to be
organized in Montreal starting in Fall of
2007 and Winter 2008.

Conflict Studies and Saint Paul
University’s Mission Statement
B.A. in Conflict Studies
In September 2007, the Faculty of Human
Sciences will launch a new B.A. in Conflict
Studies. In keeping with the spirit of Saint
Paul University’s mission statement, the
Conflict Studies program seeks to foster
a better understanding of peace and social
justice and to encourage intercultural and
interreligious dialogue.

The third International Conference was
held at Saint Paul University on May 3
to 5, 2007, with a focus on the family,
religious communities and health care. The
conference was offered in collaboration
with the University of Ottawa, the

University and the Ontario Multifaith
Council on Spiritual and Religious Care.
Conflict Studies Professor Initiates
a Peace and Conflict Impact
Assessment Project
As of April 2007, Kenneth Bush, Associate
Professor of Conflict Studies, has been
working on a two-year pilot project
to systematically integrate peace and
conflict sensitivities into the Sri Lanka
program of the World University Services
of Canada (WUSC). The $2 million
project, supported by the Canadian
International Development Agency
(CIDA), operationalizes Professor Bush’s
pioneering work on Peace and Conflict
Impact Assessment (PCIA).
CENTRE FOR MINISTRY
FORMATION
The Centre for Ministry Formation gathers
together people who are committed to
discovering and preparing for their mission
in today’s world. They are convinced that
this mission is more than learning and
developing skills. It also includes personal
development and growth in their spiritual
lives.
Community life becomes a space for
greater self-awareness, deeper authenticity
and  a school where one increases one’s
capacity for leadership and collaboration.
Given the demands of academic life
and the various commitments of each
member, community life remains a daily
challenge in terms of availability and
service. However, such a context also
prepares people for their future mission,
which always involves many choices and
decisions related to being in communion
with others and working for the greater
common good.
RESEARCH CENTRES
Research Services is pleased to announce
the appointment of Ms. Ming Zhang
as Director, International Services and
Research as of September 2006. Ms.
Zhang is an accomplished musician and
teacher and has had a long history of
intercultural community involvement and
client services.

CENTRE FOR WOMEN AND
CHRISTIAN TRADITIONS
On October 18, 2006, “Pilgrimage to
the Hill” marked Persons Day in Canada.
Some 35 participants, together with
Persons Against the Crime of Trafficking
(PACT), walked from the Human Rights
Monument to the Famous Five statues
on Parliament Hill to celebrate the
personhood of women, and draw attention
to women trafficked into Canada.
Prof. Miriam Martin, former director of
the Centre for Women and Christian
Traditions, presented a delightful concert
on February 27, 2007, to raise funds for
the activities of PACT.
Retired Professor Mary T. Malone,
known for her three-volume work Women
and Christianity, gave the Glasmacher
lecture organized by the Centre to mark
International Women’s Day on March 8,
2007. Her topic was “Women’s Christian
Heritage: Challenge of an Alternative
Story.”
Two further events sponsored by the
Centre highlighted the joint themes of
women’s history, theatre arts and religion.
On March 15, 2007, Victoria Rue (a
professor from California) presented a
workshop on “Acting Religious: Theatre
as Pedagogy in Religious Studies and
Theology.” On March 22-23, 2007, the
Threshold Players presented All That I Am
at the Bronson Centre.
GLASMACHER LECTURES
On November 14, 2006, Msgr. Stephen
Pedone, a specialist in Canon Law and
President of the Canon Law Society of
America, was invited to speak at the
Glasmacher Conference on “Catholic
Politicians Who Publicly Oppose Church
Teachings: What Is a Bishop to Do?”
SHEPTYTSKY INSTITUTE
New Director of the Sheptytsky
Institute
Fr. Stephen Wojcichowsky has been
appointed Director of the Metropolitan
Andrey Sheptytsky Institute for a three-

year term beginning February 1, 2007.
Originally from Montreal, Father Stephen
was ordained a priest in 1980 at the
Ukrainian Catholic Studite Monastery in
Castelgandolfo, Italy. Father Stephen and
his wife, Maria, have three adult children
and two grandchildren.
For over 30 years, Father Stephen has
combined service to Catholic schools and
Ukrainian Catholic parishes as a teacher,
principal, school district administrator,
lecturer in Theology, school chaplain,
seminary spiritual director, deacon,
assistant priest, pastor, and as a member
on any number of committees and boards,
both in educational and ecclesial settings
on local and national levels. His most
recent appointments were as Director
of Religious Education Services at the
Edmonton Catholic School District and as
assistant pastor of St. Josaphat Cathedral
in Edmonton.
LAUNCH OF NEW LECTURE
SERIES MAXIMOS IV
On November 23, 2006, Patriarch
Gregory III, spiritual leader of the MelkiteGreek Catholic Church, delivered the
inaugural address to launch the Patriarch
MAXIMOS IV Lecture Series, sponsored
by the Sheptytsky Institute at Saint Paul
University. The lecture series will be an
annual event at the Sheptytsky Institute.
NOVALIS
This year has been a busy and fruitful
one for Novalis. In conjunction with their
grand opening, the Librairie Saint-Paul &
Canterbury House Bookstore held a “Meet
the Authors” event in October 2006.
Thirteen Novalis authors chatted with
visitors and signed books throughout the
day. In March 2007, Novalis co-sponsored
a visit and public lecture by renowned
theologian Hans Küng. Over 800 people
braved a chilly March evening to come
and hear Dr. Küng’s presentation.
For the fourth year in a row, Novalis won
a coveted Catholic Press Association Book
Award, for books published in the United
States and Canada in 2006.

CAMPUS NEWS
Saint Paul University is pleased to
announce the signing of a cooperative
agreement with the University of Erfurt,
Germany. This partnership will give Saint
Paul University students the opportunity
to study abroad for one year, while learning
about German culture. Academic staff
members will also have the opportunity to
do research and to teach at the University
of Erfurt. The University of Erfurt’s
students and academic staff members will
also have similar opportunities to come to
Saint Paul University.
Saint Paul University Now a Member
of a North American Consortium
spécialisées (D.E.S.S.) from l’École
d’administration publique du Québec.
Saint Paul University has been chosen by
the North American Mobility in Higher
Education Program of the International
Academic Mobility Initiative of Human
Resources and Social Development
Canada (HRSDC) to be part of a
consortium of Canadian, American and
Mexican universities dedicated mainly
to international student mobility. The
purpose of the above-mentioned program
is to allow Canadian students to add a
North American cultural and educational
dimension to their studies by way of a
stay abroad.
During her career, Prof. Beauvais has
served in several public (National
Defense, Energy Canada) and parapublic
organizations (Royal College of Physicians
and Surgeons of Ottawa, National Council
on Ethics in Human Research).
Thanks to financial backing granted by
HRSDC, over the next three years a
number of students (a total of seven)
from Saint Paul University will be able to
carry out part of their program of study at
another university in either Mexico or the
United States.
APPOINTMENT OF A
NEW VICE-RECTOR,
ADMINISTRATION
In January 2007, Professor Chantal Beauvais
was appointed Vice-Rector, Administration,
succeeding Colin Levangie.
Prof. Beauvais was awarded her doctorate
in Philosophy by the University of Ottawa
in 2000. In 2001, she assumed the post of
professor, Faculty of Philosophy, at Saint
Paul University. From 2003 to 2006, she
held the position of Dean, Faculty of
Philosophy. In 2006, Prof. Beauvais also
finished a Diplôme d’études supérieures
“I hope Saint Paul University will continue
to play a leadership role between the civil
and ecclesiastical sectors,” Prof. Beauvais
says.
SAINT PAUL UNIVERSITY
AND COMMUNITY SERVICE
Krewe of Elpis (Elfs of Hope), a group
of young adults (six of them Theology
students at Saint Paul University), spent
time in New Orleans, February 16 to
25, 2007, volunteering with Operation
Helping Hands, a division of Catholic
Charities, Archdiocese of New Orleans.
Their efforts were part of ongoing
collaboration efforts to rebuild New
Orleans after the devastation of hurricane
Katrina.
UNITED WAY 2006
Sincere thanks to everyone for their
donations and to all who contributed by
generously giving time, energy and dollars
to the success of the 2006 campaign.
The campaign raised $26,082, 104% of its
goal of $25,000.
