The collaborative efforts of CEA Tech and Trixell have been firmly entrenched thanks to three major projects and a fourth on its way. It represents the beginning of a long term partnership formalized by the creation of a shared CEA Tech-Trixell laboratory. “This important project focuses on the development of CMOS sensors for future generations of digital detectors. Following this, the Cosirix project (2011-2015) was launched to improve X-ray resolutions and data collection times while reducing radiation doses for patients.” explains Paul de Groot, CEO of Trixell. Roxtar, the third Minalogic project, is being carried out with Isorg and several other partners. It aims to develop cheaper digital detectors for X-ray imaging thanks to printed electronics technology. A strategic R&D partnership “We are awaiting approval to launch the European Lorix project in partnership with CEA Tech and Isorg.” adds Paul de Groot. “The proposal is to design X-ray detectors on flexible substrates, a goal that will deliver products that are not only more reliable and lighter, but also cheaper.” In order to stay a step ahead of the competition, Trixell commits 12 to 13 percent of its turnover to R&D, with the objectives being to discover the most cost-effective high performance solutions, prepare them for mass production and bring them to market as quickly as possible. A lasting collaboration “The Leti Detector Laboratory brings together more than 30 researchers who have been working in partnership with Trixell for over 10 years. “Our first job is to develop innovative technologies that fit with the company's capacity for mass production. The laboratory encourages communication via the same channels to ensure consistency. We are also flexible enough to adapt to manufacturing constraints.” says Loïck Verger, head of the LDET. This relationship allows the laboratory to build its research on a shared vision of the future. It also authorizes Trixell to leverage the licenses necessary for production and thus launch products at competitive prices. In addition to two current technological projects – X-ray detectors based on CMOS, which are in the process of being transferred to Trixell, and the Roxtar flexible organic substrate detector project with the Liten Institute – the laboratory is preparing the future generation of color detectors that will open the door to a new era in medical diagnostics.
