HISTORIQUE / HISTORIC
Les Rencontres musicales tchèques et slovaques et son concours d’interprétation de musique tchèque
et slovaque furent fondées à Montréal en 1991 par M. Alain Nonat, directeur général et artistique du
Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 de Montréal, pour célébrer le 150 s anniversaire de naissance d’Antonin Dvorak.
Le président d’honneur de la manifestation était M. Vaclav Havel, président de la République tchèque.
M. Karel Velan, président de la compagnie Velan Inc et M. Josef Suk, violoniste, étaient co-présidents d’honneur
du Fonds Antonin Dvorak de Montréal. En 2003, le concours devient international avec la collaboration de Sarah
Meredith de l’Université du Wisconsin - Green Bay. Présentée tous les deux ans, la manifestation comprend un
concours d’interprétation de musique tchèque et slovaque accompagné de concerts, de classes de maîtres et
d’expositions thématiques.
Les principaux objectifs de cette manifestation sont de promouvoir la musique tchèque et slovaque auprès des
jeunes musiciens et de soutenir et créer des échanges entre des artistes tchèques, slovaques et nord-américains.
Les Rencontres musicales tchèques et slovaques and its Czech and Slovak music interpretation competition were
created in Montreal in 1991 by Mr. Alain Nonat, general and artistic director of Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 of Montreal to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Antonin Dvorak’s birth. The honorary chairman was Mr. Vaclav Havel,
President of the Czech Republic. Mr. Karel Velan, chairman of Velan Inc. and the violinist, Mr. Josef Suk were
honorary co-chairmen of the Antonin Dvorak Fund of Montreal. In 2003, the competition became international with
the collaboration of Sarah Meredith of the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay. Presented every two years, this
event includes a competition of Czech and Slovak music interpretation with concerts, master-classes, as well as
thematic exhibits.
The principal objectives of this manifestation are to promote the Czech and Slovak music among young musicians
and to support and create exchanges between Czech, Slovak and North-American artists.
Ce concours international est organisé par l’Université du Wisconsin de Green Bay et le Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 de
Montréal avec le support de la Fondation Sharon Resch et de la Fondation Velan.
This international competition is organized by the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay in United States and Théâtre
Lyrichoregra 20 in Montreal in Canada with the support of the Sharon Resch Fondation and the Velan Fondation.
