ory Downing has a dream much like many
other boys: Someday to be a major-league
baseball player, preferably with the Cardinals.
But, in the middle of a hard slide into second
base, he thought his dream had come to a painful
halt. Cory broke his leg in two places. University
Physician Dan Hoernschemeyer, MD, treated
Cory – put him on the base paths again.
Dr. Hoernschemeyer knows about childhood
dreams. He, too, wanted to play for the
Cardinals. He was a young, strong third
baseman – good enough to be offered a
baseball scholarship to Dayton University.
But it wasn’t an injury that rerouted
his dream. All it took was a trip to
Shriner’s Hospital in Sacramento where
he discovered a new dream: Pediatric
Orthopaedic Surgery.
Today, Dr. Hoernschemeyer and his
colleague John Anderson, MD, are
the only fellowship-trained pediatric
orthopaedic surgeons in mid-Missouri.
They specialize in just kids. together
they mend many little athletic dreams.
