Culture : Le Dakar
En 1977, Thierry Sabine se perd dans le désert africain alors qu’il disputait la
course Abidjan-Nice à moto. C’est alors que lui vient l'idée de créer une course qui
relierait Paris à Dakar avec un transfert par la mer Méditerranée. En 1979, le monde
assiste au premier rallye du Paris-Dakar de l’histoire.
Les participants au Dakar, professionnels ou amateurs, peuvent courir en
moto, en voiture ou en camion. Les plus grands constructeurs comme les plus
modestes participent à la course. Les pilotes parcourent environ 10000 kilomètres en
14 jours au milieu de dunes et de déserts, sous une chaleur insoutenable.
Les véhicules utilisés peuvent être de série ou modifiés. En 2007, Georges
Marques a couru la compétition en Citroën 2CV saharienne surnommée Bi-bip 2.
D’habitude, les participants du Paris-Dakar partent de Paris et arrivent à
Dakar. Mais cela a dû changer au cours des années. En 1992, le Dakar part du Cap
en Afrique du Sud, puis en 2000, il part de Dakar.
Plusieurs fois dans son histoire, le Dakar est perturbé à cause de menaces
terroristes. En 2008, la course est même annulée alors que 2500 pilotes étaient déjà
rassemblés pour le départ. Comme résultat, en 2009, le Dakar s’est déroulé sur un
autre continent, au Chili et en Argentine.
In 1977, Thierry Sabine got lost in the African desert when he was racing from
Abidjan to Nice on a motorbike. That's when he got the idea to create a race that
would connect Paris to Dakar, with a transfer over the Mediterranean Sea. In 1979,
the world attended the first Paris-Dakar rally in history.
Participants in the Dakar, whether professionals or amateurs, can choose to
race on a motorcycle, a car, or a truck. Both major and minor vehicle manufacturers
also participate in the race. Drivers travel about 10,000 km in 14 days in the middle of
dunes and deserts, in an almost unbearable heat.
The vehicles used can be standard or modified. In 2007, Georges Marques
ran the competition Citroën 2CV saharienne called Bi-bip 2.
Usually, participants in the Paris-Dakar start from Paris and finish in Dakar.
However, it has had to change over the years. In 1992, the Dakar started from Cape
Town in South Africa, and in 2000 they started in Dakar.
Several times in its history, the Dakar has been disrupted due to terrorist
threats. In 2008, the race was even canceled after 2500 drivers were already
gathered at the start. As a result, in 2009, the Dakar took place on another continent,
in Chile and Argentina.
