Geophysics for Geologists
This course is designed to clearly communicate the basics principles and common applications of geophysics to geologists. It has been developed over several decades of teaching Geophysics for Geologists in undergraduate university courses and house exploration group training
with feedback from students and working geologists. The course reviews the basic principles of geophysics based on most people’s intuitive
understanding of the physics of the world around them - that is geophysics without equations. The course is focused on, but not restricted to,
mining exploration and is designed to give geologists the tools they need to demystify, understand, and apply geophysics for all common
mining exploration methods as well as some of the whole earth geophysical methods that are important in understanding larger scale tectonics and geoscience. Practical exercises will be given. This course is designed as both an introductory applied course as well as an update for
those that may have studied geophysics some time ago. The course will cover the following topics: magnetic, gravity, electrical methods,
Induced Polarization IP, electrical magnetic (controlled source and natural field (MT), radiometric, seismic, borehole logging, other.
