L’élevage systématique des abeilles exige dans bien des cas la reproduction consanguine du matériel reproducteur intéressant, pour fixer des caractéristiques désirables, à maintenir dans des combinaisons ultérieures avec des lignées présentant d’autres caractéristiques désirables. D’une manière très générale, on entend par consanguinité l’accouplement d’individus plus proches parents que ne serait le cas d’un couple moyen d’individus pris au hasard dans une population. L’accouplement d’individus apparentés donne un degré de consanguinité différent selon le degré de parenté. Le tableau q résume les différentes possibilités d’accouplement et indique le degré d’homozygotie qui peut être atteint après plusieurs générations. Le coefficient de coz2savcguinité est une expression de l’intensité et de l’ampleur de la consanguinité. Il décrit l’augmentation de l’homozygotie au-delà de la part originelle de locus homozygotes au sein d’une population. Le symbole du coefficient de consanguinité est F. Il indique le degré de probabilité d’identité de descendance de deux gènes allélomorphes d’un individu (ou des deux gamètes dont l’individu est issu), c’est-à-dire la mesure dans laquelle les deux gènes allélomorphes proviennent du même gène d’un ancêtre commun. Un phénomène secondaire fréquent dans la reproduction consanguine d’espèces normalement allogames est la dépression par consanguinité. On entend par là un affaiblissement de la phase végétative et reproductive jusqu’au minimum de consanguinité. Cette diminution de vitalité est particulièrement forte dans les premières générations consanguines, puis tend à se stabiliser aux abords du minimum de consanguinité. Les causes de cette dépression s’expliquent par le fait que des gènes diminuant la vitalité et des gènes létaux deviennent homozygotes et par l’apparition de génotypes non adaptés. La rupture de systèmes polygènes équilibrés peut aussi être responsable de la diminution de vitalité. La biologie de la reproduction de t’A beille procure, du fait de l’origine azygote des mâles, une possibilité exceptionnellement favorable de reproduction consanguine intensive comparativement aux pères et mères normalement diploïdes des autres espèces animales intéressantes sous le rapport de l’élevage. L’ensemble des mâles d’une reine représente le spectre global de ses gènes. De par son tissu testiculaire, chaque mâle est en mesure de multiplier des millions de fois son patrimoine héréditaire, et, si l’on excepte des mutations éventuelles, de le reproduire chaque fois de manière identique. On peut donc, pour la représentation de la relation génétique des générations, à présenter le mâle en pur multiplicateur de patrimoine héréditaire (colonne i du tableau 5 ). Le mâle n’entre en ligne de compte que lorsqu’on fait état du véritable partenaire de copulation (colonne 2 du tableau 5 ). La planification des accouplements consanguins ne peut pas tenir compte uniquement du matériel animal disponible : les facteurs de temps et de risque y jouent aussi un rôle. Comme le montre la fig. 30 , l’augmentation d’homozygotie au cours des premières générations consanguines est plus marquée pour tous les accouplements. Certains accouplements sont cependant considérablement plus efficaces que d’autres pour l’établissement de l’homozygotie. I,’accouplement mère-fils et l’accouplement en rétrocroisement à un gamète ne sont possibles que par recours à l’insémination artificielle, mais leur exécution technique est très aléatoire. Si de nombreux accouplements procurent en une génération une augmentation considérable de l’homozygotie, la durée de la génération est, en revanche, fort longue, par exemple dans l’accouplement mère-fils. Les colonnes 3 et 4 du tableau 5 donnent un aperçu du nombre possible de générations et du degré d’homozygotie que ce nomrenoncer bre permet d’atteindre. Ces systèmes s’obtiennent quand on utilise comme reproducteurs plusieurs descendants femelles d’un accouplement, er degré (ou, mieux encore, au 2 ainsi par exemple cousin et une cousine au 1 e degré).
