Ce chant est un gospel, c'est à dire un chant religieux chanté par les noirs américains aux
Etats-Unis. Comme la plupart des chants de Noël, ce gospel raconte la naissance de Jésus.
Les gospels ont été inventés à partir des negro-spirituals, chants des anciens esclaves noirs
américains. (Autre exemple de gospel célèbre : Oh happy day).
