INTRODUCTION
In numerous studies we can show the effecting of gastric balls in patients who overweight or obese, at the time of the
loss of weight and the risk factors of obesity.
Therefore in the recommendations of HAS it has been shown by the French studies that gastric ball should be paid by
the social security.
Multiple types of gastric balls are available in France:
 ORBERA Allergan
 HELIOSPHERE Helioscopie
 EASY LIFE Life Partners Europe
 ENDBALL Endalis
We show our experience in real life in a private clinic in Tarn et Garonne, south west of France, specialised in bariatric
surgery, in installing ENDBALL.
METHODS AND MATERIAL
Since February 2010 until January2012, 22 patients have
indications for need of gastric ball, BMI over 28. With 2
problems; perforation of trachea caused by intubation
and low saturation with a patient with sleep apnoea.
There are two types of gastric balls, one 70mm of
diameter and one 110mm. The last was used with the
hyperobeses. They are made of polyurethane; their
inflation is made by air and liquid. The recommended
longevity of time in place is six months.
The ball is installed under general anesthesia, the
patient unintubated, but with the preparation of
intubation if needed.
We estimate that the time to install the balls is
established after the installation and removal of five
balls. (15mn)
To lower the risque of nausea and vomiting, we give
post operatively; dropedirol, ondanestron, corticoids
and pain killer. Antiemetic is continued for the following
3 days.
In the ball of 70 inflation of air is 120cc with 360cc of A control by ultrasound at 7 days post-op and
water.

In the ball of 110, 240cc of air and 500cc of liquid
coloured methylene blue.
Physical activity is recommended.

IN CONCLUSION
The ENDBALL is well supported although with some side effects (nausea, vomiting, and pain) in the first three days
after it is normal to use pain killers and antiemetic.
Our results can be compared with the results in the literature. The average loss of weight is 14kg and 6 points in
BMI.
A prospective study hopes to show in the end that to install gastric ball is included in the payment of social security
in the obese patients with a BMI not eligible for bariatric surgery or before bariatric surgery.
