KISS OF A SHOVEL is a Canadian Heavy Rock/Sludge Metal band formed in Drummondville,
Quebec in 2013 by Lead Vocalist Yann Latour and Guitarist Carl Bouchard.
Lead guitar player Francois Galaise, Drummer Marc Laflamme and Bassist Alex Bedard were added
to the line up the following year while 3rd guitarist & synths Jerome Martin came to complete the line
up in spring of 2015.
Aggressive guitar tones, powerful rhythm section mixed with grinding vocal harmonies gives Kiss Of
A Shovel its distinctive sound. Taking its influences from a large spectrum of renowned acts such as
epic prog bands like Genesis and tool as well as Heavy/Sludgy riffs and dark vocal moods from
bands like Type O Negative and Alice in Chains.
Even thought Kiss Of A Shovel could be considered somewhat like a new venture, its members
would not be considered as newcomers to the industry.
Combined experiences spanning well over 30 years in diverse musical scenes and projects such as
Victory Records hardcore band A Perfect Murder, world acclaimed (Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins
authorized) Genesis tribute The Musical Box as well as a multitude of other projects helped build the
bands solid foundation.
2014 marks the release of KOAS first album, an impressive 4 song EP (simply titled) Extended Play
recorded at The Wild studio in Quebec by renowned engineer Pierre Remillard. A video of the single
“Running out” co-produced by KOAS and Keven St-Pierre Productions was also released in early
April 2015.
Kiss Of A Shovel est un groupe de Heavy Rock/Sludge Metal Canadien formé à Drummondville

L’année suivante, trois membres s’ajoutent a la formation, soit : François Galaise à la guitare,
Marc Laflamme à la batterie et Alexandre Bédard à la basse, puis finalement en milieu 2015
s’ajoute Jerome Martin a la guitare et synthétiseur.
Les guitares agressives, la section rythmique solide et les harmonies vocales grinçantes sont ce
qui donne à Kiss Of A Shovel sa sonorité distincte. Influencés par une foulée de grands noms
comme les géants du rock-progressif Genesis et Tool, ils puisent aussi de l’inspiration dans les
riffs lourds et les ambiances obscures de groupes tels que Type O Negative et Alice in Chains.
Même si Kiss of a Shovel peut sembler avoir des allures de groupe émergent par sa courte
existence, les membres de la formation sont loin d’être de nouveaux arrivants dans l’industrie
musicale. En effet, c’est plus de 30 ans d’expérience combinée dans divers projets comme le
groupe hardcore A Perfect Murder (signé sous Victory Records), l’hommage à Genesis The
Musical Box (seul hommage autorisé par Peter Gabriel et Phil Collins) ainsi qu’une multitude
d’autres projets aussi différents les uns des autres, qui ont forgé le son unique de Kiss of a
Shovel.
L’année 2014 est marquée par la sortie du premier album de KOAS. Ce EP de quatre chansons
sobrement intitulé Extended Play a été enregistré par le renommé ingénieur de son Pierre
Rémillard au Wild Studio. En avril 2015, le groupe tourne son premier vidéoclip pour la chanson
