Canada’s 2016 census was held in May this year. Statistics Canada has sent census letters and packages to all Canadian households – including those in recreational communities – providing residents the information they needed to complete the census online or on paper. Census information is important for all communities and is vital for planning services such as schools, daycare, family services, housing, police services, fire protection, roads, public transportation and skills training for employment. If you have received a census package at both your primary residence and your secondary residence, you need to complete a questionnaire for your primary residence as well as a partial questionnaire for your secondary residence. 1. Using the census material you received at your primary residence, complete a census questionnaire online or on paper for your primary residence, where you reside most of the time. 2. Using the census material you received at your secondary residence, complete only the required sections of a census questionnaire online or on paper for your secondary residence. Census interviewers are now following up in cottage areas and resort communities to ensure that everyone has completed a census questionnaire for every dwelling. It is important that information for both your primary and secondary residences is obtained. For more information about the 2016 Census, visit www.census.gc.ca.
