WFPMA 40th Anniversary Essay Contest Rules
The World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPMA), in celebration of
its 40th anniversary in 2016, is committed to educating the public and our profession
on the future challenges of human resource management (HRM). The WFPMA Essay
Contest is intended to further that commitment, by encouraging current students of
HR to consider what the future of employment and the workforce will look like, the
challenges that HRM will face globally in the future, and how human resource
professionals will resolve those challenges.
One student contribution will be selected by each continental region within
the WFPMA and recognized as a winner and a prize will be awarded for each
region. Additionally, three honorable mentions will be selected per region.
Their work may be published!

Rules:
A. Entries must be the original work of students currently enrolled at accredited
colleges and universities in 2016, in either undergraduate or graduate-level HR,
HR-related, or HR business degree courses or programs (HR management,
training and development, labor relations, industrial psychology, organizational
development, employment law, or MBA programs which contain HR
coursework).
B. To participate, in countries where a student membership category exists in the
national HR associations, it is preferable that students are a member of their
respective national HR association (and in cases where they aren’t, they will be
invited to join). In countries where no student membership category exists,
submissions are welcome from any university level student enrolled in any
program described above in Rule A.

C. Students are only eligible to win if the national HR association from their country
is in good standing within its respective regional federation, and the regional
federation is in good standing within the WFPMA.
Essay Questions:
Each entry should not exceed 500 words in English, answering the following two
questions:
1. What will employment and the workforce situation be like in 40 years’
time in 2056?
2. What will be the single biggest challenge that the employment and
workforce situation in 2056 pose for the human resource management
field and how specifically will HR practitioners manage and resolve that
challenge? The context and rationale for this section should be made as
explicit as possible.

Entries should be submitted as the single-spaced text of an email with the subject
line completed following the protocol:

Following the 500-word entry, the following information must be supplied:







Student Name
Full Mailing Address (Street Address, City, Country, Postal Code/Zip)
Phone Number
Email
College or University, program of study, status (undergraduate or graduate),
and expected graduation date.
Date of birth and age as of 1 September 2016.
Membership status in a national HR association, if applicable.
Judging
Criteria for judging will be the essay’s originality, clarity of articulation of the
challenge, and clarity of the rationale for how HR practitioners will manage and
resolve the challenge as stated.

Judges will be the Board of Directors of each WFPMA regional federation: AHRC
(Africa), APFHRM (Asia Pacific), EAPM (Europe), FIDAGH (Central/South America &
the Caribbean), and NAHRMA (Canada, Mexico, USA). Selections of winners and
honorable mentions are the sole judgment of each regional federation and of the
WFPMA.
Awards
One student each per WFPMA region who authors the entry judged most relevant to
WFPMA, with strong content and style, will be awarded an expense-paid trip to the
WFPMA’s World HR Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, October 19-22, 2016 (limited to
roundtrip economy airfare, hotel accommodation, and conference registration; all
other expenses, including any passport or visa fees, meals, and incidentals, are the
responsibility of the winners).
Conditions

All responses become the property of the WFPMA, which may publish them
either in print or electronically on its website, with attribution to the author
(name, university affiliation, country, and region).

By submitting an entry, a student relinquishes and transfers copyright to the
WFPMA.

Deadline for submissions is May 1, 2016.

Judgments will be made in May – July 2016.

Winners will be notified August 1, 2016.

WFPMA can terminate the contest at any time, and can stop receipt of entries at
and for any period of time.

Students must be 18 years of age by 1 September 2016 and able to travel
independently and unchaperoned to Istanbul. Once there, the 5 regional
winners will be lodged in the same hotel and travel as a group to/from the
conference venue.

Entries not meeting contest requirements will not be considered.

Entries exceeding the 500 word limit will be disqualified.

No telephone or email inquiries.

Winners and honorable mentions will be notified by the WFPMA and an
announcement of the results will be posted on the WFPMA website.
