Special Parent Information Night—Tuesday, February 9th (7:00 – 8:00) Course selection is a very important time for students. We would like parents and guardians to be informed about the choices students need to make by February 16th. Guidance counselors will be doing specific grade level presentations on February 9th, from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. We will be going through the student presentation outlining pathway planning and course selection. A question period will be provided. All parents and guardians are encouraged to attend. When you arrive at the school, locations for each presentation will be posted. Hope to see you soon. Are you interested in lifeguard or swim instructor training and developing leadership skills? If you are 16 years old and have your Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid, you could earn one high school credit, National Lifeguarding Certification, Emergency First Aid and Lifesaving Instructor qualifications at Milliken Mills Community Centre Tuesday and Thursday nights starting February 9. Two Saturdays and $200 are required as well. Come to Guidance to pick up a brochure! Peer Tutoring / Homework Club

York Region Public Health is offering evening and weekend immunization clinics in convenient locations for students that need to catch up on their vaccinations. Clinics are offered in Keswick, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill and Vaughan. To book an appointment, visit york.ca/immunizations and click on Community Immunization Clinics. If your child has received their vaccines, you can update your child’s immunization records in one of the following ways:  Online at https://eimmunization.york.ca  Call York Region Public Health at 1‐877‐464‐9675 ext. 73456  Fax documents to 905‐895‐6066 or 1‐866‐258‐2026 2|Page
BOSS after School Literacy Program
The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a requirement for students who wish to graduate with a secondary school diploma. This year the OSSLT will be written by students across the province on Thursday, March 31st. As a school, we are taking many steps to assist our students in completing the test successfully. One way that we have chosen to help our students is by offering an after school program to reinforce reading and writing skills. The after school program will begin during the second week of February and will consist of 10 ninety‐minute sessions. Students will attend twice a week over a period of two months to receive intensive practice with reading and writing skills and strategies. Student Registration Forms are available in the library. Completed forms must be submitted to Mrs. McCombes in the library by Friday, February 5th, 2016. Spaces are limited, so completed forms should be returned as soon as possible. Please direct any questions about the BOSS After School Literacy Program to Susan McCombes ([email protected]). S
