The Beretta Magazine Lip Gauge is used on 9mm Beretta factory magazines to make sure the gap between the feed lips is within factory specifications. For proper feeding the lips MUST be parallel and the gap between
them at least 8.8mm and no more than 9.0mm.

Never attempt to disassemble or reassemble a firearm unless you are
absolutely certain that it is empty and unloaded. Visually inspect the
chamber, the magazine and firing mechanism to be absolutely certain
that no ammunition remains in the firearm. Disassembly and reassembly should follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If such instructions are not immediately available, contact the manufacturer to see
if they are available. If they are not available at all, then you should
consult other reference sources such as reference books or persons with
sufficient knowledge. If such alternative sources are not available and
you have a need to disassemble or reassemble the firearm, you should
proceed basing your procedures on common sense and experience with
similarly constructed firearms.
With regard to the use of these tools, the advice of Brownells Incorporated is general. If there is any question as to a specific application
it would be best to seek out specific advice from other sources and not
solely rely on the general advice and warnings given.

HOW TO USE
Disassemble and clean the magazine.
To check Beretta factory 9mm magazines for proper feed lip tolerances:
Place the “MIN” end of the gauge between the feed lips. The “MIN” end of
the gauge should pass between the feed lips and, when centered between the
feed lips, show clearance on both sides. If the “MIN” end of the gauge touches
the feed lips, they are too close together and must be adjusted outward.
Place the “MAX” end of the lip gauge between the feed lips. If the “MAX”
end of the gauge passes freely between the feed lips without touching them,
the feed lips are too wide and must be adjusted inward.
If adjustments need to be made, use Brownells Flat Magazine Lip Forming Pliers (#348-180-220) to bend the feed lips inward or outward until the
correct clearance is achieved. Bend the lips slowly and in equal amounts
on both sides. See note below. After bending, recheck the feed lips using the
“MIN” and “MAX” ends of the gauge.
Reassemble and check for proper functioning.
NOTE: Some makes of magazines are made of hardened or heat treated
steel and adjusting the feed lips may require more force than can be reasonably applied without damaging the pliers or the feed lips. Inspect the
magazine feed lips and body for cracks. Closely inspect where the feed lips
join the back of the magazine. Inspect both before and after any adjustments.
Discard any magazine that is found to be cracked. Any magazine that fails
to hold its feed lip adjustments when filled with ammunition is too soft at
the feed lips and should be discarded
