Human-Robot Physical Interaction Daniel Sidobre1 Abstract: With the development of service robotics and the use of robots in contact with humans, the physical interaction between human and robot become an important challenge. The importance of taking into account human being when designing human-machine interfaces is now well documented. This concerns physical abilities and both social and private aspects. The humanmachine physical interaction introduces a greater proximity with the robot and increases the safety and comfort constraints. Moreover, we are used to interact intuitively and naturally, for example to exchange an object, and we would like to experience the same simplicity in our interactions with a robot. After a presentation of some issues, we introduce some tools to simplify the building of interactive robots. Finally we present some results about object hand-over and collaborative assembly of mechanisms. 1 Daniel Sidobre CNRS, LAAS, 7 avenue du colonel Roche, F-31400 Toulouse, France and Univ de Toulouse, UPS, LAAS, F-31400 Toulouse, France. http://www.homepages.laas.fr/daniel
