Important Dates World Conference on Timber Engineering The conference will take place at the University of Vienna, Austria, which is located in the center of the city. It can be easily reached by public transport from Vienna International Airport, which provides direct flights to 170 destinations worldwide. Vienna’s most impressive sights are within walking distance of the University of Vienna. WCTE 2016 Location During WCTE 2016 the traditional focus on timber engineering and material science will be complemented by architecture related topics such as evaluation methods for green buildings and by an own platform for computer-based methods for modelling, parametric design, production, etc. 4. TIMBER ENGINEERING - codes and international engineering - fire engineering - structural design and engineering - mixed, composite, and hybrid structures 5. IMPLEMENTATION - best practice examples - case studies and visions - public interest and incentives - teaching and dissemination Call for Abstracts Prospective authors are kindly invited to electronically submit an abstract related to a mini-symposium or to the topics of the five conference tracks through the conference website by September 30, 2015. As is usual at the WCTE conferences, it is obligatory to submit full-length papers for the conference proceedings. Instructions for preparing the papers will be provided with the notification of acceptance of the contribution. Exhibition/Sponsorship The world-famous inner court of the imperial university building with covered arcades will be a unique location to expose timberrelated industrial products and to bring together professionals of different areas. The exhibition will be open to the public and is handled by the “forum-holzbau”, an international group of universities annually realizing Europe’s most important meeting in the field of timber construction, including a professional exhibition. Refurbished Cupola of Vienna University of Technology Interested exhibitors can find all necessary information on the conference website. In addition, attractive sponsorships will be offered. COMPUTER-BASED METHODS - modeling of structures - modeling of materials - IT-based architectural design - computer-aided manufacturing Conference Chairs industry Austria is a densely wooded country with nearly 50 % of its surface covered by productive forests and is one of Europe‘s most important supplier of wood products. As an Alpine country, Austria has a long tradition of using wood for building structures. The woodworking industry is highly developed and is one of Austria‘s most important exporting branches. Austria together with Germany is the world‘s biggest Glulam producer and is leading the world production in Cross-Laminated Timber panels. The modern Austrian wood architecture, timber engineering, and the Austrian carpentry companies are among Europe‘s forefront of designing and manufacturing contemporary wood-based buildings of high technical as well as aesthetic quality. The welldeveloped wood-related research sector provides the necessary background for innovation and helps to optimize sustainability and resource efficiency. 1. WOOD PRODUCTS & COMPONENTS - structural performance of materials - high performance wood products - new products and connections - industrialization of the wood chain design | This will also be reflected in the conference program, in which besides maintaining the traditional focus on timber engineering, great efforts will be placed in bridging the links between timber engineering, wood-based industries, architecture, and the building sector in general. Conference Tracks | public sector | WCTE 2016 is organized by Vienna University of Technology, which was founded in 1815 and is one of the leading technical universities in Europe. The different scientific backgrounds of the involved Faculties of Architecture & Planning and Civil Engineering will generate great synergies in combining engineering and architecture. WCTE Coordinating Council Ario CECCOTTI (University of Venice IUAV, Italy) Richard DESJARDINS (FP Innovations, Canada) Hugh MORRIS (University of Auckland, New Zealand) Pierre QUENNEVILLE (University of Auckland, New Zealand) Alexander SALENIKOVICH (Université Laval, Canada) Tomi TORATTI (Finnish Association of Construction Product Industries RTT Finland) Jan-Willem VAN DE KUILEN (TU Munich, Germany & TU Delft, Netherlands) In addition, an International Advisory Board was formed (please see the conference webpage http://wcte2016.conf.tuwien.ac.at). Welcome to WCTE 2016!
