The Montréal-Lake Ontario section of the St. Lawrence Seaway
consists of seven locks (five of them Canadian) that lift ships
75 metres above sea level.

the U.S. Department of Transportation, manages the Snell and
Eisenhower locks. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages
the Sault Ste. Marie locks. The 13 other locks are managed by
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, a not-forprofit corporation, on behalf of the Government of Canada.
