Internship Description Organization Name: Karisko Location: Martinique Position Title: Cultural Exchange Intern Length: 8 weeks Organization Contact Person: Marcel Rapon, Karisko Founder (for internal use only, do not post on website) Karisko Description: Karisko is a non-­‐profit organization in Martinique that promotes Amerindian h eritage through cultural exchanges and travel a long ancient routes linking Caribbean islands. Karisko is a lso a citizen initiative that uses historical knowledge to u nite past a nd present experiences while bringing together people in a shared enterprise. Karisko is supported b y local and international organizations. Tasks and Responsibilities 1. Publication Layout : Help prepare the layout a nd first draft of a bilingual French-­‐English book (marketing piece) d etailing Karisko's kanawa (Amerindian b oat) expeditions. This will entail interviewing members of the association, developing an outline, s electing pictures, and working on the layout. Expeditions include Youmoulikou 200 (Martinique/Dominique), Kyantangomingo Ema I Martinique/Antigua 2009), and Kytangomingo Ema II Grenade/Martinique 2010). a. La/le stagiaire aura essentiellement en charge la préparation d 'une prémaquette d'un b eau livre d es expéditions en kanawa dans la Caraïbe et, b. Coordonner une équipe d e rédacteurs à l'origine d e ces expéditions historiques en kanawa dans la Caraïbe 2008 ( Youmoulikou : Martinique/Dominique ; après plus d e 350 ans)-­‐2009 ( Kytangomingo Ema I : Martinique/Antigua )-­‐2010 ( Kytangomingo Ema II : Grenade/Martinique). c. La/le stagiaire devra apporter son ordinateur. 2. Linguistic Exchange: Interact with members of Karisko and beyond. The intern will b e in close contact with young p eople training with Karisko and will present Earlham College a nd Quaker principles to constituencies such as n ewspapers, radio or TV programs, local schools, libraries, or even university s tudents. a. Elle pourra en outre présenter EARLHAM College et la "philosophie QUAKER" à la presse écrite, radio et TV; Elle pourrait également intervenir dans un ou 2 établissements s colaires type lycée ; voire l'Université. 3. Physical Activities: Participate in athletic and cultural activities organized b y Karisko, including preparation for and participation in a kanawa expedition planned for May and possibly h elping with the renovation of the h istorical military fort of Ilet Ramiers. a. Activités sportives, ludiques et culturelles : participations aux animations d e KARISKO, à d es entrainements et u n évènement kanawa (programmé en mai 2015), éventuellement entretien et rénovation d 'un fort militaire sur l'îlet Ramiers qui s e trouve aux Trois Ilets. Additional Details and Conditions: 1. Housing: The intern will b e hosted b y the Karisko organization and placed with a host family. Hébergement prévu par Karisko dans une famille d'accueil. 2. Food: In general, breakfast and dinner will b e included. The intern will b e responsible for a ll other meals. La d emi-­‐pension s era assurée, les autres repas s eront à la charge du stagiaire. 3. Travel: Air travel b etween Dayton and Martinique will be covered by the Karisko organization. Le voyage (A/R) à partir d'Earlham College s era couvert par Karisko. 4. Stipend: The intern will receive a s tipend of $1000 to cover h is/her local travel and other activities n ot d irectly r elated to Karisko. These funds are provided b y the Altrusa fund which is managed b y the Earlham College Department of French and Francophone Studies. Cette somme provient du fonds Altrusa géré p ar le Département d e Français et d'Etudes Francophones. 5. Timeframe: The internship will last for eight weeks b etween early May and June, 2015. The final dates will be d etermined b etween the intern and Karisko. Le stage durera huit (8) semaines entre le d ébut mai et la fin juin. Academic Credit: Students may receive credit for the internship experience through CIL 363 and/or may complete an internship p etition through the registrar’s office for additional credit. This internship could fulfill the French off campus requirement if a student is majoring in French. L'étudiant/e pourra recevoir d es crédits attribués soit par le Dpt d e Français, soit par CIL (CIL 363) et/ou pourra faire la d emande au bureau du Registrar p our des crédits supplémentaires. Un étudiant qui s e spécialiserait en français p ourrait d e cette manière satisfaire l'obligation d e s éjour dans un pays francophone. Qualifications 1. Advanced oral proficiency in French and ability to translate b etween English and French. Maîtrise du français parlé et écrit ainsi qu'une expérience de traduction dans les 2 langues. 2. Excellent writing and editing s kills in both French and English. Excellente aptitude à écrire/ éditer dans les 2 langues. 3. Graphic d esign skills and/or experience working with p hotography, 2D art, and page layout. Expérience souhaitée en d essin, p hotographie, pagination etc… 4. Strong organizational s kills. Bonne aptitude d'organisation. 5. Ability to take initiative, to work autonomously, and to follow through on tasks. Capacité d'initiative p ersonnelle et responsabilité dans le travail. 6. Strong skills in interpersonal relationships. Bonne aptitude relationnelle. 7. Ability to do public speaking and to give informal presentations about Earlham and/or Quaker philosophy to a public with limited English.
