JOUONS AVEC ASTERIX LE GAULOIS
En route pour le Parc Astérix!
Introduction:
A long time ago, few centuries before Christ, France was a territory called La Gaule and inhabited by
tribes of Gaulois (Gauls). One of the most popular Gauls known today is a comic character invented
and created by Mr. Gosciny and Mr. Uderzo. His name is Astérix. You have probably heard about
Astérix and his inseparable mate Obélix! Together they live extraordinary adventures, which are full of
action, epic fights with the Romans, traditional Gaul songs, humour and friendship. You can meet
Astérix by asking for his books in your local library or by contacting the Alliance Française in Perth
(http://wwwiinet.net.au/afperth) where you will find books and videos on Astérix’s adventures.
In France, in the northern suburbs of Paris there is an area which is still resisting invasions (by the
Romans at the time of Gaul). This area bears the name of Parc Astérix. It is a theme park, for kids and
adults, based on the story of Astérix. It is a park which offers a very large variety of attractions and it
continues to be a tremendous success since its opening ten years ago.
Obviously, being in Australia, you cannot decide on the spur of the moment, that you will spend your
next week-end with your parents and friends at the Parc Astérix! But the park is here, on the internet,
just a mouse click away.
The Task:
Let’s go to Parc Astérix on Internet and plan a full day of entertainment and fun with Astérix for your
friends or for yourself if by any chance, you one day go to France! But actually you don’t need to go to
France. Everything is available here on the Internet! First enjoy the virtual park and experience as
many attractions and rides as you wish. Then your task will be to report to your class about your visit,
what you have done, what you enjoyed the most etc… A form to guide you in your visit of the park and
in your reporting task has been designed. You will need to fill it out and then write your report.
Process:
To explore the web site and prepare your report you can work in pairs or on your own.
1st step:

When you enter the park and log on the Parc Astérix’s web site you will need to view
the following links which all appear on the home page (to get a good idea of the park’s
features):
Attractions and other links in the attractions’ menu such as Ça décoiffe (for amazing rides), On y va
tous! (All aboard) and Comme les grands (recommended for kids).
Spectacles where you will find information about shows on stage, other shows around the corner in
the park streets or water shows. Click on sub-links in Spectacles to discover all the entertainment,
shows and performances the park is proposing to visitors.

Restos et Boutiques when it is time for a bite! Here you will find all the food selection available in
the park plus a link to know how to get a nice souvenir of your visit to Astérix!
Infos pratiques is a very useful link for park information such as “How to get there”, “When is it
open?”, “How much does it cost?”, “Can we stay overnight?”
Le Parc Virtuel is a breathtaking visit of the three most exiting attractions of the Parc Astérix. It is
absolutely worth a visit!
2nd step:
Download and print out the report guideline and complete it with all the information you
can get from the web site. Remember: all answers have to be written in French unless it
is clearly indicated that you can use English.

To complete your visit and draft your report you mainly need the two following resources:
- The park’s web address (http://www.parcasterix.fr)
- The report form (see below).
You can, of course, use your dictionary or any other resource that you might think helpful for you to
complete the task (don’t forget to list the resources you have used on your report!).
Learning Advice:
It is recommended for this web activity that you first have a general look at the web site to get more
familiar with Astérix and the various attractions in the park. Then look closely at the report form and,
off line, ask yourself what kind of information you need to include in your report for a day at the Parc
Astérix. As you will see on the web pages, an English version of the site is also available on the
Internet. You can have a look at this version in case you are not sure where to find the information you
are looking for.
Evaluation:
After doing a verbal report to your class, your written report on “A day in the virtual park” will be
assessed by your teacher according to the following criteria:
- Understanding of the task
- Overall understanding of the web site as shown through your report
- Accuracy of answers to questions. Details given.
- French spelling
- Original thoughts / specificity
