Comme tous les travailleurs, les chercheurs ne peuvent échapper à l'évaluation. De
nombreuses questions se posent : qui doit les évaluer ? À quel rythme ? Et surtout,
sur quelles bases ? Sur leur réputation, leurs interventions, leur implication dans la
discipline, leur présence dans la "littérature scientifique" ? Mais alors quelle
littérature ? Comment apprécier cette présence ? Par le nombre de textes publiés ?
La diversité des revues ? Par l'écho qu'ont les textes dans la littérature ? La
bibliométrie tend aujourd'hui à saturer l'évaluation. Elle est une réponse à quelquesunes de ces questions. Elle propose une forme d'évaluation comptable qu'on
voudrait objective mais qui comporte de nombeuses limites et ambiguïtés. Ce livre
présente quelques outils bibliométriques comme les fameux "facteurs d'impact" et
"h-index" et, à travers une analyse des pratiques mises en oeuvre, montre que
l'objectivité n'est pas au rendez-vous et que la littérature sollicitée n'est pas vraiment
internationale. Il décrit comment la bibliométrie peut devenir un outil de
globalisation scientifique et culturelle.

petit livre revigorant, et toujours d’actualité.


Ghost World has become a cultural and generational touchstone, and continues to
