De Franse componist en pianist Michel Legrand schrijft, arrangeert en vertolkt al
meer dan vijftig jaar muziek. Enkele van zijn beroemde composities en
samenwerkingen met tekstschrijvers Alan en Marilyn Bergman groeiden uit tot
hedendaagse klassiekers zoals The windmills of your mind, Summer of ’42, What
are you doing the rest of your life?, Papa, can you hear me? en The summer knows.
Hij schreef de soundtracks voor talloze films uit de hele wereld, waarvan het
Oscarwinnende Summer of ’42, The Thomas Crown affair, Ice Station Zebra, Yentl,
Les demoiselles de Rochefort en Les parapluies de Cherbourg) de bekendste
voorbeelden zijn.
Dankzij zijn muzikale vakmanschap slaagde hij erin om samen te werken met de
grootste sterren uit de muziekwereld. Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Barbra Streisand,
Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Andy Williams, Lena Horne, Dionne Warwick, Diana
Ross, Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Liza Minelli, Johnny Mathis, Perry Como, Nana
Mouskouri, Kiri Te Kanawa, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Oscar Peterson, Alison

zijn enkele wereldsterren met wie Michel Legrand prachtige muziek heeft gemaakt.
In 2011 nam Legrand samen met artiesten als Mika, Iggy Pop, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy,
Coeur de Pirate, Rufus Wainwright, Jamie Cullum, Madeleine Peyroux, Émilie
Simon, M, Ayo en Olivia Ruiz een album met kerstnummers op. Twee jaar later
verscheen Entre elle et lui, een prachtige collectie met liedjes van Legrand,
gezongen door Natalie Dessay. Het album kreeg goede recensies en werd een groot
commercieel succes.
Daarnaast schreef hij de muziek voor een aantal theatermusicals. Met Les
demoiselles de Rochefort, Amour, Marguerite en het recentere Les parapluies de
Cherbourg veroverde hij podia in New York, Parijs, Tokio, Helsinki en Londen.
In 2010 vierde hij de vijftigste verjaardag van zijn showbizzcarrière met een concert
in het MGM Grand in Las Vegas, waar tal van artiesten hem een eerbetoon
brachten. Hij deelde er het podium met speciale gasten als Dionne Warwick, George
Benson, Frank Sinatra Jr., Andy Williams, Melissa Manchester, Patti Page, Mario
Pelchat, Jon Voight, Jerry Lewis en Jennifer O’Neill.
In februari 2012 vierde Legrand zijn tachtigste verjaardag. Maar hij is nog lang niet
van plan om te stoppen, want binnenkort vertrekt hij op wereldtournee. In 2014 geeft
hij concerten in Frankrijk, Ierland, Japan, Argentinië, Brazilië, Rusland, de VS,
Denemarken, Nederland en België.

Michel Legrand a également écrit les partitions de nombreuses comédies musicales
au théâtre. « Les Demoiselles de Rochefort », « Amour », « Marguerite » et plus

En 2010, Michel Legrand a célébré ses 50 ans de carrière en organisant un concert
d'hommage au MGM Grand à Las Vegas en compagnie d'une foule de célébrités.

French born composer and pianist Michel Legrand has been writing, arranging and
performing music for over half a century. Some of his most famous compositions and

Michel Legrand has scored musical soundtracks for countless movies across the
globe. Among the most famous of these are the Oscar winning “Summer of ’42”,
“The Thomas Crown Affair”, “Ice Station Zebra”, “Yentl”, “Les Demoiselles de
Rochefort” (English translation : “The Young Ladies of Rochefort”) and “Les
Parapluies de Cherbourg” (English translation: “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg”).

Ayo and Olivia Ruiz. This was followed in 2013 by ‘Entre Elle et Lui” a beautiful
collection of Michel’s songs sung by Natalie Dessay, which has gone on to achieve
great critical and commercial success.
Michel Legrand has also written the scores for a number of musicals for theatre. “Les
Demoiselles de Rochefort”, “Amour”, “Marguerite” and most recently “The Umbrellas
of Cherbourg” have variously graced stages in New York, Paris, Tokyo, Helsinki
and London.
In 2010 Michel Legrand celebrated 50 years in showbusiness with a star-studded
tribute concert at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, USA. Michel played onstage with
special guests Dionne Warwick, George Benson, Frank Sinatra Jr, Andy Williams,
Melissa Manchester, Patti Page, Mario Pelchat, Jon Voight, Jerry Lewis and Jennifer
O’Neill.
Michel Legrand reached his 80th Birthday in February 2012. Instead of slowing
down, Michel decided to embark on a commemorative world tour. Throughout 2014
he will perform concerts in France, Ireland, Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Russia, USA,
Denmark, The Netherlands and Belgium !
