Long term archiving
► As a national agency, it’s a duty for CNES to save
the data collected by space French instruments.
► knowledge must be saved for the future
generations
The archiving has a cost :
► the cost of the ingestion of the data into the archive
► the recurrent cost of the long term maintenance of
the archive
Today a specific CNES entity (SERAD) is reponsible
for the long term archiving.

● the value of the data
● the need / probability to reuse the data in the
long term
► The long term archive base is not a mission base :

► Archived data will be available through a web server
(including documentation and software elements)
► Selection criteria will be based on the available metadata but
remaining relatively simple.
► Be aware that data will be stored on tapes and that the acces
time will be relatively long
