In order to receive the designation of a “Biodiversity Garden”, the space had to meet certain criteria. It had to incorporate a variety of plants, including indigenous flora, and it had to be maintained with a tolerance for insects and without pesticides. The garden was created three years ago and has been growing with the help of community partner Vert-Cité. “The community garden at Parkdale brings together families from both the school and the community, as well as a variety of insects and birds,” says Katherine Dimas, CLC Coordinator. While the trees and shrubs will take many years to fully mature, over time, the schoolyard will be home to five areas where students will have the opportunity to learn, play or relax in the shade. http://bit.ly/espacepourlavie-Parkdale www.learnquebec.ca
