The Department of Computer science is involved in teaching not only undergraduate engineering students, but also postgraduate (master and PhD) students within the context of its research projects, whether purely academic or jointly with industrial partners, with whom it has always maintained strong links. It hosts the LMAC and Heudiasyc laboratories and cultivates close connections with international institutions and partners, participating in three international laboratories. The successful applicant will be required to lecture to engineering undergraduates (years 1 through 5) and to conduct classes on the fundamentals of mathematics (analysis and algebra). He/she will also help to supervise projects and internships for engineering students. The Applied Mathematics Laboratory (LMAC) at UTC conducts high-level research into deterministic and stochastic problems in applied mathematics. Research is related to applications and to the development of effective tools for scientific computation, the aim always being to ensure complementarity and coherence within partnerships involving other UTC laboratories and research groups at other institutions. LMAC's research activities fall into two main areas: first, inverse problems and ill-posed problems, and, second, stochastic systems. The problems that this research addresses, both at the theoretical and application levels, derive from problems that arise in engineering and the applied sciences. LMAC has developed as number of active industrial partnerships (including with EDF, ONERA, IFP, SNECMA, ALSTOM, and RENAULT) as well as multidisciplinary joint projects (including in medicine, biology, and mechanical engineering) involving different research units and research teams at UTC. The successful applicant will become part of the "inverse problems" research team, which is seeking to strengthen its ties with other laboratories, both inside and outside UTC, via scientific computing projects in fields including imaging, biomedical, renewable energies, and shape optimization. Knowledge of mathematical modeling and skills in numerical methods specific to ill-posed or ill-conditioned problems would be a considerable advantage. He/she will also be expected to participate in the scientific activities of the Laboratory by becoming involved in organizing seminars and working groups.
