3. DOVAROMA – GB We were made to feel very welcome at La Villa Paris, - we stayed in The Opera room with twin beds which were very comfortable, and all the necessary facilities which included a very good and spacious shower. Electric shutters to the large windows, and air conditioning both enhanced the three night stay and my daughter and myself both slept well, with no street noise or problems. Other reviews are absolutely true! - Marie is a very friendly and likable hostess, from the moment we arrived she made us feel very welcome and provided a lot of useful information including a Map of Paris which proved very useful, particularly when we needed to plan Metro routes. The short walk to the nearest Metro (Place d‘Italie) soon became very familiar, - passing a variety of smaller shops and cafes. (I would definitely recommend buying a stock of metro tickets to have in hand). We chose to have breakfast at 9am every morning which was fine, - everything was set out ready for us, juice, tea and coffee, different types of bread on each day, - croissants and very tasty jam! We will definitely be recommending La Villa Paris to any friends who plan to visit Paris. - Thank you Marie, we had a lovely time! corpus.docx 1/26 Y. CINOTTI 4. CAROL WONG - HONG-KONG My husband and I spent six days in Paris as part of our honeymoon. We stayed at this place because of all the great comments about the place and the keeper Marie. All the comments were so true! Tasteful decor. Clean and comfortable room. Good wifi connection. Flat TV. Nice bathroom. Great breakfast. Marie is a very nice and helpful host. She got so much useful information for us as a tourist. She would also let us know each morning if there are any additional and new information that we could make use of (say on the Music Festival we could buy discount tickets and travel free overnight), etc. etc. Grateful to her for everything! Btw, my husband still misses her coffee! 5. ANDYMW - GB Took my wife to stay here for a surprise 30th birthday present. Very much agree with what‘s already been said in the other reviews: comfortable bed, clean, stylish décor, delicious breakfast etc. We stayed in the Champs Elysees room and enjoyed having such a large and luxurious bathroom, with a really powerful shower and a jacuzzi bath. Marie is the perfect hostess: charming, friendly and helpful. She was happy to chat to us each morning about places to visit and also recommend and book restaurants for us (which were excellent). La Villa Paris is about a 15 min walk from the nearest metro station, however we didn‘t find this too much of an issue as the neighbourhood you walk through feels quite safe. There is also a bike station right outside if you‘re happy to cycle. Only problem we experienced was on the first night when the air conditioning kept making a strange buzzing noise which kept us awake even after we‘d switched it off, but Marie got this sorted the following day, and agreed to give us a discount because of this. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and had a fantastic long weekend in Paris – we‘d definitely like to return for another stay. 6. ARIELARAFE - USA I had procrastinated planning our France trip and couldn‘t find a reasonable price hotel and decided to stay at a B&B instead. We got into Paris early in the morning and had booked a car through Viator (suggest to read all comments on Viator website before booking any trips with them because we had good and bad experiences booking services and trips with them) at the airport and since the B&B is in the suburban area, the driver had a bit of a hard time finding it even with a GPS. However, we were delighted to find Marie with our room ready and she had even offered us cookies and coffee for refreshment. She then gave us information on Paris and maps with local entertainment guide that described each must-see neighborhood. Our room is very modern with flat screen TV and a separate toilet and bath so it was easier for my husband and I to get ready in the morning. Our bed is super comfortable with softest sheets. Every night - Marie left us a small board at our front door asking us when do we want to have breakfast the next morning which had the freshest bread and fruits from the local market along with fruit juices, tea and coffee. We had originally asked for eggs and even though Marie do not serve them, she went out of her way to get them for us and let us cooked them in the kitchen. She is also very thoughtful too because we had to leave at the crack of dawn one morning for a day trip and the local markets are not open yet. She had prepared crackers, cheese and yogurt for us so we wouldn‘t starve. She have got to be the nicest hostess in Paris. The B&B is a bit out of the way to the city center. The nearest train station is about 5-6 blocks and it took us 30 minutes to most places in the city. It is in the suburban area without that much restaurant so I would suggest to have your meals before coming back to the hotel even though you can store your corpus.docx 2/26 Y. CINOTTI water, fruits...etc in the refrigerator. There is a bus station nearby that Marie had recommended that took us directly to Notre Dame and it was a really good scenic ride to go through the local streets. I would definitely come back to La Villa the next time I go to Paris for vacation. Best place we have ever stayed in France. Wonderfully clean and Marie is the perfect host and she speaks perfect English. If we come back to Paris will definitely stay here again. 7. DESLIN – GB We just loved La Villa Paris. Marie made us feel very welcome. Having not been to Paris before we didn‘t have a clue how to get around but Marie told us how to get around on the buses, Metro etc. Our room was brilliant, very clean and modern. We highly recommend this bed and breakfast. We can honestly say this was one of the best ones we have stayed in. 8. NATALIEMC - GB We stayed for 3 nights at La Villa Paris over the late May Bank Holiday and had a wonderful time. The rooms are beautifully decorated, very contemporary yet still French. We stayed in the Opera which had a huge comfy bed and a small, but gorgeous bathroom, with a very powerful hot shower. Nice fluffy towels and crisp white linen, little chocolates left on the on the bed, so many small details that really make a difference. As people have said, Marie is very friendly, helpful and accommodating and serves the most delightful continental breakfast – croissants, fresh bread, cheese & ham, freshly made Jams, cereals & fruit, juice, tea and coffee – delicious. Nothing is too much trouble. A short walk from Cite Universitaire (RER), as well as a short walk in the other direction to Place D‘Italie (Metro), and once you are on either it is only about 10 minutes into the Heart of the City. If you don‘t mind being that little bit away from it all, then I would definitely recommend staying here. 9. PDUECK - USA It‘s difficult to find a really great place to stay while in cities like London or Paris. After a wild search online I found La Villa Paris and was glad I did. My friend and I had decided to stay in Paris over Christmas and the proprietor was happy to let us come and stay. She was extremely helpful in giving us directions, suggestions of places to eat and lovely maps! I love maps. The breakfast was fresh break, croissants, Nutella, jams, tea and coffee. A wonderful spread! The bathroom was humungous and the shower had great water pressure. The beds were comfortable and very, very clean. Actually, everything was very clean. On Christmas Eve we came back from a day of sightseeing and Maria had placed a bottle of wine and some fabulous chocolates for us to celebrate Christmas! What a treat that was! I would definitely tell others to stay at La Villa Paris! 10. 3BERGEN – BELGIQUE Just returned from a 2 night stay at La Villa Paris and it was wonderful! It felt like a home away from home and our champ elysees room was cosy, spacious, nicely decorated. The bed was very nice, slept like a rose. Also nice was the jacuzi, very nice to relax after a long day walking through the streets of Paris! corpus.docx 3/26 Y. CINOTTI The B&B is nicely located and it‘s very convenient to the Metro and bus 67 stops across the street and brings you to the Louvre and the Notre Dame and Pigalle. We felt very welcome and Marie did everything to help us find our way across town, thanks Marie for everything!! We will certainly come back to the Villa and we recommend you stay there whenever in Paris! B - LA GURINIÈRE (MALAKOFF 92) http://www.tripadvisor.fr/Hotel_Review-g187147-d648601-Reviews-La_Guriniere-Paris_Ile_de_France.html 11. JULIECWIGAN - GB I stayed at La Guriniere for 3 nights in July with my two daughters, age 16 and 13 and we loved it. The room was very pretty and "french" and spotlessly clean. Micheline was lovely, very, very helpful and the breakfast was delicious, croissants, bread, juice and coffee. Nothing was too much trouble. We only met her husband once; but he seemed very nice. We were advised to take the Air France bus number 13 outside CdG airport to Gare Montparnesse, which was very busy. From here you get on the Metro line 13 in the direction CHATILLON MONTROUGE and leave it after 5 stations at MALAKOFF PLATEAU de VANVES. From Malakoff there is a short walk to La Guriniere. As we arrived early, Micheline let us leave our luggage (even though she was very busy cleaning the room) and gave us a metro map and directions to the "sights of Paris". The metro is an excellent way of getting around and you never have to wait more than a couple of minutes. We saw the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe; took the Batobus trip down the Seine and spent a lovely afternoon in the Latin quarter and visited the Sacre Coeur (my favourite spot!). On Saturday evening we walked up the Champs Elysee and stopped to eat. We checked the menu prices for a pasta dish and it seemed reasonable. BEWARE!!!! The menu prices for drinks are not displayed. I was charged 39 Euros for 2 "medium sized" glasses of lemonade and a small glass of wine. WHAT A RIP-OFF!!! When I queried this with the waiter, who was rushed off his feet, he apologised and said the drinks are usually more expensive than the food! If you look at the menu (in small print at the bottom!) you MUST order a drink when purchasing food. It‘s sad really that they have to treat tourists like this. They are already making a massive profit, it‘s just pure greed. Any way, it didn‘t spoil our trip it was wonderful. Just make sure you don‘t get ripped off and take some comfortable shoes, it‘s a big city. As for La Guriniere, it‘s PERFECT! I would recommend it to anyone and would love to go back. 12. CARICHRISTIAN - GB We have been meaning to write this review for a year now, but it‘s funny how life gets so busy. My wife and I stayed at La Guriniere for four days in late July 2007. We had checked out trip adviser reviews before booking directly with Micheline, and thought the reviews were very good. Little did we know how amazing this little gem would be. We arrived at the airport and took a transfer Air France bus to the train depot where we caught the Metro to Malakoff suburb of Paris. The Metro ride was very easy and fast not more than 12 minutes. Upon arriving in this quaint town, a resident couple saw us looking at a map trying to figure out exactly where it was we were to go. The lovely French couple politely asked if they could help us with something. We communicated to them that we were staying at La Guriniere and this couple who were on their way into the metro train, took the time to walk us straight to the front gate. Then they cheerfully said "enjoy France‘ and hugged us. Wow what a reception! corpus.docx 4/26 Y. CINOTTI Upon ringing the buzzer, we were warmly greeted by Micheline. She then showed us where we would be staying. The room was everything we could have wanted and much nicer than any picture could show. The bathroom was very clean and modern and practical. Every morning we would be greeted with a warm French breakfast to start off our day (freshly baked that morning). Micheline would be around to answer any questions we might have about our travel plans for the day. She and her husband Jean Paul, did spend a lot of time helping us plan our site seeing, which saved us tons of time wandering around Paris aimlessly. Travel to all the major sites in Paris was very easy and less than 20 mins travel time. The Metro subway is super efficient compared to the tube in London or anything we have here in North America. The hospitality and generosity given to us by Micheline and Jean Paul was second to none ! Our honeymoon in France started at their beautiful bed and breakfast and we could never have imagined staying in such a wonderful place and meeting such nice people. 13. DOMINICVAIL - USA Loved La Guriniere and will stay there again. We (my wife, Brother, and I) spent 8 days at La Guriniere while sightseeing and vacationing in Paris. The place is pretty remarkable. The rooms are large, clean, quiet and sunny (shutters for sleeping). The breakfast was great and the owner, Micheline, comes every morning with hot coffee, warm croissants, a baguette, and juice. She and her husband Jean-Paul are very nice and live next door in a separate home. Micheline helped us with recommendations which improved the quality of our stay enormously. One of her local Malakoff recommendations is il Pomodoro, an Italian restaurant, and it was wonderful and inexpensive. The B&B is located within zones 1 and 2 of Paris and very near a metro station. We purchased the visit Paris 5 day metro pass (and another 2 day) which allows unlimited use of the metro. We went into central Paris twice a day, once to see the sights and another time in the evening for dinner. I would recommend this place to everyone whether you are looking for a bargain or just looking for a comfortable, high quality, and pleasant place to stay while visiting Paris. Did I mention that the shower was awesome as well. Great outdoor garden too! This is the best B&B I have ever stayed out. 14. MISSUSKEN - AUSTRALIE Well, I write this review with mixed feelings. We were on a European Vacation from Australia, two adults and two boys aged 3 and 4. First, the location in a lovely suburb of Paris is the best. 10 minutes from Paris on the train We found a great Bar/Restaurant 2 minutes from La Guriniere near the Town Square(Les Sports), fantastic, genuine people. The room we had was lovely, with a loft bedroom for the boys. All very nice ,clean and cosy. Breakfast was delicious with bread, croissants, jams, coffee, hot chocolate etc. But!! I had arranged some months earlier that we would arrive prior to normal check in time, leave our bags, go out for a few hours and return after 3:00pm for official check in. And we did, returning after 3:00pm to find Madam in a confused state. Beds still unmade, turmoil everywhere, more guests to arrive and on it went. It only got worse, when for the next two nights we lay in our bed listening to Madam going on about us and our enfants to two guests from the UK, even a subtle turn of our door handle did not stop the tales. Oh well, mais bon, we shall not darken those doors again with pesky kids!! corpus.docx 5/26 Y. CINOTTI 15. AYZ75 - CANADA Let me start off by saying that the B&B is good, and there‘s nothing wrong with it. But it‘s just not for everyone. The owner (lady) was friendly and talkative, but that was a small problem for us because we wanted to go out early to do some sightseeings. My husband speaks French so once the lady started chatting with him, it was hard to end the conversation. It‘s not her fault, but just not what I was looking for when I want to go out early and beat the tourist crowd. The room was nice, I wouldn‘t say it was spotless clean but it was clean. Breakfast was fine, the croissant was very good (just remember it‘s all bread for breakfast) We had another small problem - the only way to get ahold of the owner was in the morning when she‘s around to prepare breakfast, she didn‘t really tell us how to find her when we need to (so one day I just left her a note downstairs hoping she‘d see it). Overall it was a good stay, but I don‘t think we would stay here again and I wouldn‘t recommend it to everyone either, unless you‘re looking for a very relaxing vacation and staying more than just a few days. C - THE BLUE ROOM (PARIS 75) http://www.tripadvisor.fr/ShowUserReviews-g187147-d754690-r14963524-The_Blue_RoomParis_Ile_de_France.html 16. LILABLUE – ITALIE I love Paris and I have the chance to go there once or twice a year for a long week-end. Before each trip, I spend time on Trip advisor looking for new places to visit and I am so sad to have read the previous comments about Brigitte‘s B&B. I stayed there and I can assure anybody that the view from the window is beautiful, the building is stupendous, the entrance also. The room is simply decorated but the place is magic and believe me for about 90 € with breakfast, it is good value. The Seine River and Notre Dame are at the end of the street. I am going back to Paris next month and have decided to discover other areas, this is why I am going to Montmartre this time but believe if you have the chance to stay at Brigitte‘s place, you will not regret it. 17. ROWBEAR – USA We recently stayed at The Blue Room September 13th to the 17th, 2007 To begin with, the view in her ads will never be seen by guests as this was shot via the daughter‘s bedroom window and not open to guests. So views of the Notre Dame are five blocks away … ―at the end of the street.‖ ―A simple breakfast is served‖….How true. This is really do-it-yourself in every sense of the word. Madam sets the ―breakfast‖ out the night before as she isn‘t a very early riser (if at all some mornings) and the baguette we had Friday, turned out to be the same one we had on Saturday and Sunday. The ―butter‖ was actually margarine and sat out all the time until we put it in the Frigo. Two jams of a nondescript nature. We also had to make our own coffee or tea. Thank heavens that there were enough early restaurants where we could supplement these Scrooge offerings. By Monday, we didn‘t wait to see how hard the baguette had become, as we had a TGV to catch. Stairs? She stated that a lift was being installed and this was May at the booking, so it would be ready in September. Wrong!!! She claimed the apartment was on the 2nd floor when it was 3 more after the corpus.docx 6/26 Y. CINOTTI entry way below. Talk about 43 steps and built in the 18th century. There were no plans for an elevator and no ―craftsmen working in the building.‖ Helpful? This was our 8th visit to Paris and she has a bunch of wrinkled brochures that could use a bit of updating since WWII. Call for a cab? Don‘t be ridiculous as there is a cab stand only two blocks away. She was most helpful when it came to advising us that she also has a gite to rent in the Provence and it would be available. If it is in any condition like the Blue Room, we will be the last to book reservations. D - CHATELET DE CAMPO (CAMPO – 20) http://www.tripadvisor.fr/ShowUserReviews-g187140-d649864-r17747635-Chatelet_De_CampoAjaccio_Corsica.html#mtreview_17747635 18. MORELLOSYRACUSE - ITALIE My husband and I just returned from a short stay in Corsica. The Chatelet was by far our favorite spot. We found exactly what we were looking for ... a relaxing spot in the mountains with a luxury feel. The room we stayed in had a great terrace overlooking the beautiful mountains, pool and well sculpted garden area. The bedroom had a small fireplace and very comfortable bed with super soft linens. The bathroom had the nicest bathtub that you can really sink into. There are very large shuttered windows to allow for the wonderful breezes and fresh mountain air to welcome you. The views from this mountain top hideaway are truly breath taking. You will find the special hand touches throughout this property to make you feel like you are personally pampered to. Elisabeth, the hostess, makes you feel instantly at home and is extremely helpful to guide you to restaurants or other points of interest. This is a place that we would definitely return only for a longer stay >> we didn‘t want to leave ! 19. 9JERRY9 - BELGIQUE Chatelet de Campo is a wonderful place to stay at 30/40 min car drive from ajaccio. The familly Herzet (2 adults, their 3 kids & 1 dog) welcomes you with real kindness and efficiency. The house in itself is a 3 floor old Corsican house beautifully renovated by the owners 3 years ago. The rooms are spacious and elegantly decorated. All have their bathrooms (1 has its private bathroom and toilets on the floor). There are 3 double rooms. There‘s also a flat to rent weekly in summer for 2 adults & 2 children. There‘s a suite/loggias with an additional small living room and a terrace facing the garden. In summer there‘s acces to a small swimming pool (2 m × 6 m) to refresh. It‘s strictly forbidden to smoke inside the house. No pet allowed. For 6 nights in off-peak season, we had a price of 700 € for the Suite & Loggia. Other rooms have a lower price. There‘s a parking space below the house. The continental breakfast is served in a very large and friendly dining room and is very abundant with a majority of self made products (bread, jam, brioche, …) Some evenings in the week, the owners hold a table d‘hôte i.e. a dinner (30 EUR/pers. drinks incl) and then you easily feel at home chatting with some old friends. The dinner is also basically made up with the local products or with those of the garden. It‘s a place where you feel cosy and at home. The owers can inform you about things to do in Corsica and are pleased to do so. They are really helpful and nice and also flexible. They can also advise on some local retaurants & products to buy. corpus.docx 7/26 Y. CINOTTI This place is really a gem as you have all the advantages of a B&B and the comfort of a hotel. The owners are really lovely with their guests and always ready to help. The surroundings are extremely calm as you‘re in the countryside. Try this Chatelet and you won‘t be disappointed: we really had a great experience of Corsica there! E - VILLA GHIATONE (PIETROSELLA 20) http://www.tripadvisor.fr/ShowUserReviews-g1052763-d1033945-r15251026-Villa_GhiatonePietrosella_Corsica.html 20. F - HOME SWEET HOME (NICE 06) http://www.tripadvisor.fr/Hotel_Review-g187234-d571536-Reviews-Nice_Home_Sweet_HomeNice_French_Riviera_Cote_d_Azur_Provence.html 22. SQUIDLIN – CANADA This is perhaps the best bed and breakfast that I have ever stayed in. The hosts Geneveive and Phillipe are among the most gracious hosts and their apartment is like a million dollar condo. It is strange to imagine that a bed and breakfast would feel like your living in a brand new renovated apartment, but that‘s exactly the atmosphere you get. The rooms are immaculate and huge, with windows over looking much of the architecture in the surrounding neighbourhood. I would highly recommend these accommodations. 23. MMES – USA We absolutely loved this B&B. Everyone in the group agreed that it was the best place we stayed in Europe. The rooms are clean and spacious and the owners were wonderfully accomodating. It was refreshing to find a place that actually matched the description given on the Internet. We will definitely stay here whenever we are in Nice. 24. 23SINGLEFEMALE THIS PLACE IS A STEAL. I stayed there 3 days this past weekend for only € 75, which I actually won back at the Casino Ruhl. The location is great, right in between the train station and the coast. The rooms are clean. The B&B was empty the last night I was there so I was able to see every room. corpus.docx 8/26 Y. CINOTTI There‘s about 6 or 7 rooms and 3 bathrooms and a kitchen and a dining room. There are 3 single rooms, 1 quad room, 1 double room with ensuite bathroom, and a double room with a little room attached with a single bed. Three of the rooms have TVs (only French channels) and DVD players which are stocked with DVDs (mostly French but some English). The best part is that Genevieve saves all the maps and guidebooks left behind by previous travelers and the previous travelers have marked and circled places to go. So it gives you a great basis for sightseeing. Breakfast was whatevers. It‘s just bread, jam and coffee and orange juice. Genevieve comes every morning to clean and prepare breakfast, but she nor her husband actually stay overnight at the property. I met a fellow single traveler at the B&B and we went bar hopping together which was great since I was traveling alone. I was choosing between a 4-star hotel and this place, and I‘m really glad chose Nice Home Sweet Home and will be back if I ever come back to Nice. 25. VIVANANCE – USA Genevieve, who owns & operates this B&B is very welcoming and helpful. One of the main reasons I chose to stay here was because she offers a single-occupancy room rate, and it was an excellent price for the quality and comfort of the accommodations. My room was very spacious, clean and pretty. The neighborhood is a quick walk to the train station, ideal if you are taking day trips. Also, the airport bus can drop you off or pick you up near the train station. Some might feel uncomfortable with sharing the bathroom with the other guests but it really wasn‘t any trouble for me. (you always have the room to yourself while you are using it.) There are bigger rooms of course, for couples or friends sharing. I also met other interesting travelers who were staying here. Because of Nice Sweet Home I had a very comfortable and happy stay in Nice. a aimé — Coziness and location G - LA PARARE (CHATEAUNEUF VILLEVIEILLE 06) http://www.tripadvisor.fr/ShowUserReviews-g187234-d604258-r10103199-La_ParareNice_French_Riviera_Cote_d_Azur_Provence.html 26. MOUNTAINMANN - USA We spent 3 nights here in late September and found it to be a nice hide away --- maybe a little more of a hide-away than we had hoped for. It was a little difficult to find via our rental car from the Nice airport but with a little backtraking here and there we made our way up 23 hairpin turns to an idyllic setting high in the hills. Sydney was a wonderful host and provided one of the best breakfasts on our trip. After getting used to the roads and how to navigate we were able to get to Monaco and most other sights with little difficulty. One downside with the location was poor access to restaurants as most were a good 25-30 minutes away. We settled for some closer ones but found the food generally unappealing. The room was nice although the nouveau architecture which included multiple levels and no railing required great skill to prevent tripping or slipping. All in all it‘s a nice place to chill out for a few days and use as a base to visit the hill communities. 27. CAROLINAJUEZ – ARGENTINE This is a beautiful small and quite hotel. It is 20 minutes from Nice in a very quite place. The house is very old and beautiful, rooms are great ! ! ! Very spacious and really very clean. Breakfast is served in a beautiful garden... The owners are very warm and helpfull, and they do everything there. corpus.docx 9/26 Y. CINOTTI It was the best place we have stayed in, during our trip to Europe. Ideal for couples (very romantic!!) HIghly recommended H - VILLA KILAUEA (NICE 06) http://www.tripadvisor.fr/ShowUserReviews-g187234-d729841-r18098364-Villa_KilaueaNice_French_Riviera_Cote_d_Azur_Provence.html 28. RUIC – PARIS Chambre (rose) spacieuse et bien décorée. Piscine magnifique. 29. BOBMARCEL – USA My partner and I spent three wonderful days at Villa Kilauea in May! Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the proprietors, Nathalie and Gerard. Their home is absolutely beautiful, situated high in the hills, with an absolutely breathtaking, panoramic view of the mountains from their back yard. Their home also boasts a beautiful, tranquil pool that appears to just spill out onto the mountain. The rooms are large, very nicely decorated with much thought put into the theme and design of each room. The bathroom was immaculate and large as well. Breakfast each morning was served in a separate room adjacent to the pool, with a fully furnished kitchen. Breakfast was delicious consisting of fresh croissants, fresh breads, home made preserves, cheeses, home baked apples, home baked quiches and peach tarts!!! Needles to say, we did not go hungry! Nathalie and Gerard went out of their way to make our stay a very memorable one! We will certainly pass the good word of this outstanding B&B. Many thanks for all your help and hospitality, Nathalie and Gerard! ps....Nathalie, please send a big hug to your Mom for us!!! Many thanks! Bob & Marcel, Salem, MA USA I - LA PRADASSE (AYGUESVIVES 31) http://www.tripadvisor.fr/Hotel_Review-g187175-d613853-Reviews-La_PradasseToulouse_Midi_Pyrenees.html 30. JGARNER53 – USA This place is incredibly charming. Its pictures don‘t really do it justice. It‘s out in the countryside outside Toulouse (about a 20-25 minute drive to downtown). corpus.docx 10/26 Y. CINOTTI The owners have converted the old barn section of the house to a beautiful guest house; the husband of the couple is a wrought iron artist and did all the iron work himself (which is extensive). The mix of modern and antique is quite charming, and the rooms are decorated very tastefully (and are larger than you‘d think, looking at their website). We stayed only one night in this haven, but wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy the grassy lawn and pool (even if just for lounging). The common room boasts an enormous fireplace that would be cozy on a cool evening, and the owner had a cheery fire going in the morning when we got up. My only complaint about the hotel is that our bed was located in a narrow nook in the room. There was a small TV mounted about 5 feet up on the wall that we had to skirt around to get to that side of the bed, and is located such that if you are not careful getting out of bed, you will hit your head. Other than that, it felt utterly luxurious and pampering. REBPLUS1 We enjoyed the Chateau being in the French Countryside. A great place to stay if you have a car with easy access and ample parking not far from Toulouse. The room and bath was over sized and very clean. Marie was very helpful and kind and had a lovely breakfast. We stayed four days and were happy with the whole experience. We were happy we stayed there. K - BLUE STURGEON (SAINT-SEURIN-D’UZET 33) http://www.tripadvisor.fr/Hotel_Review-g187079-d598903-Reviews-Blue_Sturgeon-Bordeaux_Aquitaine.html 34. MENEERHAAG - GB Having stayed at The Blue Sturgeon before (soon after it opened a few years ago) I was intrigued if all was ‗in order‘ on a second flying visit last month. I‘m pleased to report Rob and Eileen are still doing things right. The evening meal (now featuring caviar if you want it - what else should one expect from the original - ‗village of caviar‘?!) was good value and very enjoyable. It certainly gives the local restaurants a ‗run for their money‘ AND there‘s no ‗who‘s going to drive issues!‘ R and E are very welcoming, the rooms are of a good standard and very clean - a great relaxing place which was even better the second time around. I for one will keep visiting and heartily recommend that other ‗Trip Advisors‘ do too! 35. ATLANTADOLL - USA My husband and I and another couple recently spent two nights here midway through a fast-paced two weeks in France and Spain. Beautiful, very comfortable property out in the middle of nowhere---just what we needed at that point in our trip! The location is a little farther from the Medoc region than I had thought, but I really hadn‘t done my "geography homework" carefully before the trip. The owners corpus.docx 11/26 Y. CINOTTI are delightful, and the accommodations are first-class. (I‘m a teacher and never rate anything a 5, so don‘t be put off by my 4 rating. This is a great place, and I recommend it highly.) MARGOTINA75 - SUISSE We stayed in Bordeaux for two days on our way to the coast and had the chance to discover this new B&B (they opened in February this year) situated in the old wine merchant quarter of Bordeaux. The room was very nicely decorated and the bed was very comfy. The owners are very knowledgeable on what to do and where to go in Bordeaux and were very welcoming. For those interested in eco-building the house has been renovated in an eco-friendly way and if you are interested in building or renovating your own house or flat they will be happy to share their experience with you. Last but not least Bordeaux is a fantastic city with loads of things to see and do and very good for shopping too. All in all a very nice B&B that we can recommend without reserve. 37. PAVANE – USA In a narrow street in an industrial/loft area is a brilliant renovation done with taste and love. In fact, they are in the process of adding additional rooms. Rooms are small, but well furnished with terrific beds and linens, high-tech baths, luscious towels, and many useful details. Ecology and organic ideas predominate with the breakfast made of the finest ingredients including homemade jams and splendid fresh breads and yogurts. We were a couple and adult son and so we could close off our two rooms and two baths and have the connecting all as well. Good internet wi-fi in most locations. Because it was unusually hot and the rooms have no air conditioning, we had to leave the windows open. One room only opened on inside atrium (which opens to the sky part of the time) but air did not circulate well at night. The room that opened to the street brought reverberating street sounds and mosquitoes. Special electric mosquito repellent worked, as did the Cutter‘s I carried. Lovely hosts who were helpful and spoke perfect English and went the extra mile. Close to antiques, the river, the tram and terrific restaurants, plus indoor safe parking. CHEBURASHKAIM - USA First, the good: - there is free internet - they have a kitchen that is open to guests - there are clothes lines for drying clothes (great for backpackers) Now, the bad: corpus.docx 12/26 Y. CINOTTI - rooms are vertically half-size, meaning that it may be impossible to stand fully upright in the room; it‘s like something out of a movie. - there are no beds, only mattresses on the floor - we were on the highest floor and had to climb up a ladder through a hole to get to our floor (this is hard to explain with words, but I do not have a picture) - we had to go through someone else‘s room to get to our room - the owner is a racist pig (made derogatory comments about certain nationalities) and is extremely rude - he yelled to take a short shower only seconds after turning on the water, and a minute later, threatened to turn off the water. - FYI - there is NO HOT WATER in the shower; only cold water!! So, there is no way one can take a shower longer a couple of minutes because the water is so cold. There is no excuse for his rudeness. - there are no locks on the room doors - it is a bit out of the way and we had to take the metro and a bus to get there. Getting to the old port can take anywhere from 15 min to 45 minutes. We got out of there as soon as we could the next morning. We did not feel safe there. I would not recommend this hostel to anyone. 39. MANIACMICH - CANADA This place was pretty good - tucked away from the main street. There is no sign outside pointing the traveller to this place, so be sure to keep an eye on house numbers. The front door is always open and the first floor is bright yellow and blue, so you can‘t miss it. Just walk up the narrow stairway to the living room and ask for "Jean". I would stay here again, however we originally booked a studio on the 3rd floor with a terrace and kitchen. Because a family of 4 had checked in before us, we actually got the smaller 2 person studio in the garage on the 1st floor (named the "Port Miou") - where ventilation was poor (one very small window), and the bathroom a little mouldy. We made do for 2 nights, but if you have asthma I would recommend specifically asking for a studio other than the "Port Miou" when you make your reservation. I also recommend bringing some cheap flip flops or sandals to wear in the shower. The lighting is very dim, and the water pressure low. Laundry is 5 euros, but they would rather that you linedry your clothes on the roof instead of using the dryer. Also, keep in mind that this is really a hostel for backpackers, and as such, it is fairly noisy until 10pm. The host will also take you to "les calanques", give you a map and point you in the direction of a couple of secluded beaches. Wear hiking boots even if you plan on swimming - the hike back to civilization is all uphill, rocky and quite challenging! PROTONVEHICROSS - USA My friend and I stayed at BnB Les Amis in November 2007 for 2 nights for approximately 85€ plus 10€ per night for parking in the garage. Note that the owners actually have two locations for guests to stay. The main location is in their multi-bedroom large condominium; the other location is a small studio condominium that‘s within the same apartment complex. We stayed in the studio because they were doing some remodeling in their house. The studio is good if you prefer total privacy, however, it is not as upscale as the main guest house. The owners were extremely friendly and showed us to a restaurant as well as provided a gay map of the city with points of interests and suggestions for things to do at night. They hosted us for drinks and snacks at their large condominium one evening, which is gorgeous and comfortable with a huge patio and panoramic views of the city and wonderful art all around. A stay at that location would be very comfortable. The location is centralized and within a 20 minute walk from all the major bars, clubs, and gay attractions in Marseille. It is also within a 20-25 minute walk of the old city and the port. Note that to get to the clubs, you have to walk several blocks through a very dirty and potentially unsafe part of town. We walked through this area quickly, usually late at night, and encountered no problems. But nonetheless, I would advise looking like you know where you‘re going and moving briskly to avoid attracting unwanted attention. Most clubs and bars don‘t open, much less get busy, until midnight, so you‘ll be traversing through this "danger zone" if you plan to venture out on foot. Street parking around the BnB is practically impossible to find, as is the case in most French cities. The owners rented us a tiny parking space that belongs to their neighbor, in the condominium garage. However, this may or may not be available depending on whether the neighbor is home; it will also only fit very tiny cars so do not plan to park in it if you have a large U.S.-sized sedan. a aimé — The owners were very friendly and went out of their way to offer us suggestions and make us feel welcome. MOLARNATOR – GB My wife and I are in mid fifties and enjoy walking, mostly in the lake district and Yorkshire dales. We wanted something that would be a bit more of a challenge. We have not been on a group walking holiday before so we were slightly apprehensive at taking the plunge. We didn‘t need to be we quickly found out. The walking was a challenge, up high in the pyrenees, but what a fantastic week we had and had a real sense of achievement from the holiday. Rob and Emma were not only excellent guides, but also very good cooks and good company. The food was good quality local produce and very reasonable wine in quality and quantity! The accommodation was clean ,tidy and comfortable in a lovely restored barn type property in the delightful village of Bareges. All in all, I would thoroughly recommend this as a base for a walking holiday 43. NURSEMAGGIESUFFOLK – GB Four of us decided to try a ‗Gentle Walking Holiday‘ as we are all in our mid to late fifties. We had a fabulous time, Rob and Emma looked after us brilliantly at the same time as challenging us and giving us a real sense of achievement! The food was wonderful and plentiful, we worked up enormous appetites through all the exercise, but didn‘t put on any weight - a bonus! The accomodation was splendid, and the beds were the most comfortable we have experienced away from home. This was a holiday we will never forget, it was just excellent. WEARETOURISTS - GB Very elegant home combining designer with traditional in what looks like a very affluent street in the suburbs of Strasbourg. 1 minute to the cheap and frequent tram that for £1 or so takes you straight into the heart of the city. Great alternative to sometimes expensive city centre soulless hotels which I would doubt offer the same room size, stylish, laid-back surroundings and welcome of this B&B. Genuinely surprised by quality of accommodation and the finest petit dejeuner (breakfast I think) this side of Australia with homemade jams ‗made by mum‘ and croissants big enough to live on for weeks. Friendly but not at all intrusive hosts made us feel welcome and helped out with the usual what and where questions when arriving in a new city. Try this B&B and you‘ll look at the usual 4* chain hotels a bit differently for ever more. a aimé — It was just so nice n’a pas aimé — Nothing but positives corpus.docx 15/26 Y. CINOTTI 45. TORTELLINI – CANADA From the minute we pulled up in front of La Belle Strasbourgoeise, we fell in love with it. Francoise and Christophe were excellent hosts who both greeted as warmly at the door even though we showed up earlier than expected. They helped us with planning our day to the villages along the Wine Route and even lent us a guide book to take with us. We stayed in the Pistachio-Macaroon room which was very spacious and most importantly, equipped with an extremely comfortable bed with hard and soft pillows to choose from based on you personal preference. A guidebook in the room also added a personal touch with welcoming words, recommendations of restaurants in the area and tips for enjoying your stay in Strasbourg. The bathroom was huge, well lit and clean. In addition to a modern hair dryer, more than enough towels, a Vichy-like shower, it also came with a towel heater to heat up your towel for that warm fluffy feel as you step out of the shower. Breakfast the next morning was amazing. Fresh croissants and baguettes that were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside... accompanied with homemade jam courtesy of Francoise‘s mom... we were in heaven! We ate so much we unfortunately couldn‘t try any of the yogurt that was also offered to us. Even though we didn‘t spend a lot of time in the B&B itself, it provided us with a welcoming place to crash after spending a day exploring the charming wine villages of Alsace and a good night‘s sleep to reenergize us for the next day which we spent visiting the picturesque city of Strasbourg. 46. POUSSEMOUSSU – USA I was the first one to write a review about La Belle Strasbourgeoise. I had a memorable stay there and wrote a terrific review about that place. Recently I checked TripAdvisor to see what other travelers had to say about that B&B and I was shocked when I read that people arrived at the B&B and no one was there. And it was not the first time. It actually happened to me but at the time, I didn‘t know it was a habit of Françoise to be away when people check-in. I remember I had sent her an email telling her at what time I would be checking-in and when she finally showed up (45 minutes waiting outside), she told me that she hadn‘t received my email. The room was so nice and the breakfast so good, I didn‘t want to mention that bad start. Now that I read so many reviews stipulating the same problem, I have to admit that this is not the way to run a Bed & Breakfast. You cannot let people outside when you run such a business. Just for that reason, I now don‘t recommend anybody to stay there. Besides I don‘t want to feel like an idiot again! 64. ALPINAZH - SUISSE We stayed at La Potiniere for a week in the end of August - the beginning of September. We came a little late but were wonderful welcomed by Sandra. She and her husband Benjamin are very friendly, speak perfect English, really professionals in the hotel business and gave a lot of helpful information and recommendations for organizing our vacation. Breakfast, consisted of fresh French croissants, baguette, butter, different kinds of jam, honey, jus, coffee and always different fruits and yogurts, was served on the beautiful terrace with a view of the swimming pool. The pool was very clean as well as the rooms, which are decorated in a typical Mediterranean way. The beach is not far away, like 5-10 min walking distance and there are different shopping and dining possibilities around. If you want to visit the city center of St. Raphael and all the tourist shops and restaurants there, you will need a car or another way of transportation. For a walk to the centre one will need more than 40 min. We definitely recommend this B&B to everyone who wants to spend a calm and romantic vacation in Cote d‘Azur. The place is located not in center town but just a few kilometers, we had a car but still we went walking to the town. It was a relaxing holidays with great food and good ambiance. 66. UKJAY25 - GB For our first ski holiday in Chamonix, we checked around with a few colleagues to see if anyone had skied there. One of them suggested we take a look at Chalet Wildfire, where he‘d stayed a couple of seasons ago. We normally stay in hotels, but wanted a change and this sounded like something we should try. We arrived quite late in the evening, and even though we‘d missed dinner, a light supper was made for us. After our first dinner with the other guests – food was very good, we spend a couple of hours getting know the rest of the guests and glad to say any apprehension about being in a mixed chalet soon went away. It was great. The hosts provided good service, including taking us to the slopes. Rooms were much larger than we expected from other chums‘ descriptions of a ‗chalet‘. Our room was corpus.docx 21/26 Y. CINOTTI one of the ones with a balcony and I don‘t think we have ever woken up to such views! A glass of mulled wine in front of the log fire made for a cosy start to the evening. I am pretty certain that we are going to have another visit to Chamonix and would choose Wildfire for our accommodation again. 67. MMONTYCALIFORNIA - USA Well, after some thought, we have decided to go back to Chalet Wildfire. We were there a couple of summers ago and it suited us fine. We preferred not to be in the centre of Chamonix, as it can be a bit too lively at times. The location is really beautiful and quite tranquil. Just standing on the balcony and watching Mont Blanc turn pink as the sun set, will always be memorable. Rooms are very comfortable, with private bathroom. We booked bed and breakfast, but discussing dinners with other guests, we were persuaded to try them. Glad we did, good variety, well presented. I suppose being in the Haute Savoie, we might have liked to see a bit more of the local cheese. We are fortunate that we will be in Europe on business in January, so for our skiing trip we are looking forward to going back to try the Catered‘Chalet option - sounds interesting. Chouette! ... Le must ?
