Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC).

RULES: General Terms and Conditions
The Thirteenth Lyon International Chamber Music Competition (CIMCL) is for woodwind quintet.
It is open to artists of all nationalities born after 19th April 1984.
The competition will award 3 prizes (1st, 2nd and 3rd), as well as a few special prizes.
The competition will take place in Lyon, France, from Wednesday 19th to Sunday 23rd April 2017.

APPLICATIONS
The closing date for applications is postponed to January 15th 2017.
Candidates must submit the following documents:





Duly completed application form, specifying the works selected
Short curriculum vitae of the quintet as well as of each musician, in French or English
A recent photograph of the quintet (black and white, 300 dpi, size min. 10 cm x 15 cm)
Copy (100 dpi, jpg or pdf file) of identity card or passport of each musician
Application fee of 250 €
The application fee must be paid by international money order, payable to the CIMCL.

ADMISSION
Only completed dossiers will be accepted. Candidates will be informed by e-mail of their
admittance by the 8th February, 2017.
TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION
Candidates must pay for their travel and accommodation costs.
Accommodation in rooms is offered in limited number. Attribution will prioritize geographic distance
between interested candidates.
REGISTRATION
Candidates must register and present ID at the competition secretariat on Tuesday 18th April,
2017, between 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Lots will be drawn at 4pm to determine the order of play.
REHEARSALS
Rehearsal rooms will be available for candidates from 2pm on Tuesday 18th April and throughout
the period of the competition. The competition organizers will provide a schedule to ensure equal
use of rehearsal rooms.
COMPETITION PROCEDURE
The competition venue will be disclosed to candidates when participation is confirmed.
All rounds will be open to the public. The jury reserves the right to interrupt the contestants’
performance or to select some movements from the pieces chosen. The order of the selected
pieces is left to the discretion of the candidates.
The Gilles Silvestrini score, set piece for the semi-final, will be available for purchase from
February 2017. Scores can be ordered on www.acappella.eu - ([email protected]).
Musical rounds may be recorded (audio and video) for broadcast (live or not) on Université Lumière
Lyon 2, NoMadMusic, France Musique website.

Overall assessment of the candidates will include their ability to set a suitable concert
program.

PRIZES/AWARDS
A total of 22.000 euro will be awarded to the prizewinners:
First prize : 10.000 euro / 2nd prize: 5.000 euro / 3rd prize: 3.000 euro

The awards list may be modified by the organisers before the beginning of the competition. The
prizes/awards will be attributed by the jury, except for the Public Award which will be attributed by
the public by individual ballot during the finals and the Websurfers award which will be attributed
by websurfers.
Candidates will be informed of the details of those different awards with their admittance. The
prizes/awards must be shared equally between the members of the quintet.
Several professional engagements may be proposed to the winners. In particular the winners
agree to honour those engagements. Dates will be given with the admittance.

AWARDS CEREMONY AND CONCERT
The awards ceremony will take place on Sunday 23rd April 2017 at 4:00 pm at the Opéra de Lyon.
Award winners must be present to receive their prizes and must play freely an excerpt from their
competition program, as approved by the organisers of the concert.
The concert will be recorded by France Musique for broadcast in May 2017 (Gaëlle Le Gallic
programme).
The winners agree to offer a recital to CIMCL during the year following the competition.
Accommodation and travel expenses will be paid for by CIMCL.

JURY
The jury will be made up of 7 or more personalities from the music world, selected by the
competition management. The president of the jury will be nominated by the competition
management or elected by the members of the jury. The jury will deliberate at the end of each
round. The decisions of the jury are final.
RECORDINGS AND BROADCASTS
Competition organisers reserve the right to record all or part of the competition using photographic
or video technology, for advertising, archives, television, internet or radio broadcasting in
accordance with the rights of French musicians (article L 212-3, Intellectual Property Code).
OBLIGATIONS
Registration for the competition implies that candidates agree with and accept all of the articles of
these rules.
The French version of these rules takes precedence.
Disputes will be settled by the authorities in Lyon.
