Two years ago, in preparing a suitably grand celebration for our 15th anniversary, we undertook an analysis of the gastronomy program and enlisted important partners in its development. We set up a gastronomy advisory committee and an outreach committee. We also conducted a major survey on the festival’s Finest Tables, the true cornerstone in the development and execution of hundreds of activities. They proposed a wealth of ideas and initiatives to renew the gourmet program, leading to the creation of a number of new series: Planète Montréal, Montréal-San Francisco, Coup de chapeau à Haïti (Hats Off to Haiti), Amitiés gourmandes (Gourmet goodwill), Montréal-Laurentides (Montréal-Laurentians), Esprits libres (Free Spirits), Brunchs et Lunchs (Brunches and Lunches), 5 à 7 +, À boire !, and finally, the Special Events. We are indeed very fortunate to be blessed with so much talent right here at home, and the chefs of the festival’s Finest Tables have undeniably illustrated they have what it takes to host the world’s culinary greats. It’s their turn to take centre stage! Likewise, we have extended the pairings concept—the festival signature—by inviting the chefs of the festival’s Finest Tables to cook up new activities that reach beyond the borders of the purely culinary, to amaze us with exciting cross-discipline partnerships. The result: guests from all walks of life (artists, athletes, journalists...) will join the chefs for incredibly original evenings as part of our series Planète Montréal. Yes, we’ve taken the opportunity presented by this anniversary edition to whip up a touch of innovation, creating several brand new series with evocative titles! Why? For sheer gourmet pleasure, of course, but also because we thought they’d allow you, the festival fan, to more easily select your favourite activities among the multitude of attractive propositions offered in the gastronomy program. Finally, we’d like to take this opportunity to offer our profound thanks to the chefs, kitchen brigades and owners of the cuisine festival’s Finest Tables for their phenomenal work over the past 15 years. Their bottomless creativity never ceases to renew itself, as you’ll see from the activities they offer in these pages, all of which are absolutely bursting with zest, warmth and originality. The festival is truly delighted to honour our professionals and, above all, to do so by welcoming you to join in the celebration! MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE throws a major-league celebration for its 15th edition with Lumière sur Montréal, a prestigious multidisciplinary event that pre-opens the festival, in benefit of Centraide of Greater Montreal. The [SAT] will be transformed for the occasion, hosting some 25 of Montreal’s finest chefs, who will welcome you with little gourmet dishes served up at various stations, each with a different theme based on light in all its states, conceived, designed and executed by local creators. Your host/guides will make sure you experience every discovery, taking you through dazzling creative environments all over the venue, where high-profile artists will pop up here, there and everywhere to dazzle you with their own surprise performances. Gastronomy, artistic presentations, music, an auction, lighting effects, philanthropy, enchanting décor, surprises and even an outdoor yurt… you’ve never had the opportunity to so fully experience everything MEL in just one evening! In a developed country like ours, where a wide variety of fresh and healthy food is always available in abundance, is it really possible to suffer from hunger? The fact remains that 9% of the people on Montreal Island (139,000), 5% in Laval (16,400) and 4% in the Montérégie (50,000) are in a situation of moderate to serious food insecurity. What exactly is food insecurity? • Having to choose between rent and food • Cutting back on food • Doing without in order to feed your children • Lacking nutritious food • Going to school without breakfast • Worrying about running out of food Tous les profits seront versés à Centraide du Grand Montréal, notamment dans le but de contrer l’insécurité alimentaire. All profits will be donated to Centraide of Greater Montreal, to aid in the fight against food insecurity. Tornare a Casa: a journey back home, to the place where food and cooking are, indeed, everything. On chef Peppino Perri’s most recent trip to Rome, he came, he saw, he tasted and drank in all of the city’s culinary delights. He returns to Montreal more energized and inspired than ever. Fresh fazzoletti—or “handkerchief” pasta—topped with spicy Amatriciana sauce and served with a glass of blood-red lambrusco; a comforting slow-cooked rabbit dish, with a little rosemary and a lot of garlic… these are just some of the many wonders inspired by chef Perri’s return.
