Electrophysiological correlates of pain perception in Humans
Internship proposal 2016-2017 (internship from January 3 2017 to May 30 2017) Host laboratory : CRNL INSERM U1028 CNRS UMR 5292 Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 Host team: NEUROPAIN Hôpital Neurologique, 59 boulevard Pinel 69677 BRON Internship supervisor: FROT Maud, CR1 INSERM [email protected] 04 27 85 77 52 Title of project Electrophysiological correlates of pain perception in Humans – An intra-cerebral recording study. Summary of project Cortical areas activated by a nociceptive stimulus are well known in Humans. Nevertheless, an activation of the spinothalamic system, conveying nociceptive inputs, will not systematically lead to a pain sensation. In this project, we suggest to explore with intra-cerebral recordings in Humans, the possible electrophysiological correlates of this painful sensation. Thanks to this very precise exploration technique, we could study the modulations of the electrophysiological responses recorded in cortical regions devoted either in the processing of pure nociceptive information or in more cognitive aspects of pain. During his/her M2 project, the student will have essentially to analyze (evoked potentials, timefrequency analysis…) electrophysiological data (EEG) that have been already acquired. The student will also participate to the acquisition of new data, if intracerebral recordings can be possible during the master period. 3-5 recent publications - Frot M, Mauguière F, Magnin M and Garcia-Larrea L (2008) Parallel processing of nociceptive Adelta inputs in SII and mid-cingulate cortex in humans. 3-5 publications récentes - Frot M, Mauguière F, Magnin M and Garcia-Larrea L (2008) Parallel processing of nociceptive Adelta inputs in SII and mid-cingulate cortex in humans.
