Bienvenue à notre troisième forum
Au nom de nos deux écoles, et au nom du conseil d’administration de notre
fondation ici aux Etats-Unis et au Canada je vous souhaite à tous la bienvenue
au troisième forum annuel. Après Miami, San Francisco, nous voici à New
York ce qui démontre bien la pénétration sur tout le territoire américain des
diplômés ECL et EMLYON.
Nous avons identifié à peu près 800 d’entre nous vivant en Amérique du Nord
ou bien expatriés pour quelques années ou établis ici définitivement. Nous
bénéficions donc d’une communauté large, diverse et bien implantée. L’Alliance
Science & Business qui a permis le rapprochement de nos deux écoles à Ecully,
nous a aussi permis de nous unifier ici en Amérique du Nord et de constituer
une taille critique pour animer notre communauté et soutenir financièrement
les projets de nos étudiants. Les projets que nous sélectionnons contribuent à l’ouverture sur le monde, à l’innovation et à l’esprit
d’entreprise, qualités qui sont au cœur du succès de nos diplômés de ce côté de l’Atlantique. Durant ce forum, certains de ces
projets vous seront présentés et vous mesurerez ainsi mieux l’impact que votre contribution a pour les étudiants sur le campus.
Il est toujours difficile de consacrer un week-end entier à un forum comme le nôtre et nous n’aurons donc avec nous qu’un peu
plus de 10% des membres de notre communauté, et je tiens donc à vous remercier personnellement de votre participation. Vous
montrez l’exemple pour tous les diplômés, et vous en serez récompensés par la qualité des intervenants : directeurs des Ecoles,
conférenciers de grande qualité, et bien sûr étudiants fiers de vous montrer concrètement leur esprit d’entreprise et d’innovation.

SPEAKERS BIOGRAPHIES
Bernard Belletante
Bernard Belletante is CEO and Dean of EMLYON Business School since May 2014.
He was formerly Director General and Dean of KEDGE Business School, the school created by the merger
of Euromed Management and BeM (Bordeaux Management School). Formerly President of the Chapitre des
Grandes Ecoles de Management (Chapter of Business Schools in France) and administrator of the Conférence
des Grandes Ecoles (Conference of Grandes Ecoles in France). Before joining Euromed Management (which
became Kedge Business School on 1st July 2013) in 2002, and EMLYON as CEO in 2014 he was Finance
professor and Vice Dean at EMLYON Business School.
With a deep-seated interest in the problems of emerging countries, he created the Réseau Mediterranean
des Ecoles de Management (RMEM) (The Mediterranean Network of Business Schools) and is Vice President
of OCEMO, Office of Economic Cooperation for Mediterranean and Middle East. He is co-founder of the MENA
Economic Forum.
He is a graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieur (ENS), holds a Ph.D and an H.D.R (Habilitation à diriger des recherches) in Management. He has
developed an expertise in finance for SMEs and in company governance. A member of the Comité d’Orientation du Centre Européen pour les
PME (Orientation Committee for the European Centre for SMEs), he has published nearly 25 books and over 100 papers and articles. He is also
an auditor for AACSB and Equis.
He is a board member of several companies including April Group and was President of the Scientific committee of Altares until December 2013.
Bernard Belletante is the cofounder of the Mena Economic Forum and administrator of the World Entrepreneurship Forum.
Today, he is focusing all his energy into making EMLYON Business School one of the top global and digitalized business schools.
Passionate about Education his most recent publication which was unveiled in December 2014, is called “Education: the last frontier before the
World” or how a Business school CEO sees the evolution of teaching to better apprehend tomorrow’s reality.
Jean-Pierre Bertoglio
Research Dean of Ecole Centrale de Lyon, CNRS Research Director at LMFA.
Jean-Pierre Bertoglio is Senior Researcher at CNRS and holds a doctorate ès sciences. An alumnus of École
Centrale de Lyon (1977), he develops his research at the Fluid Mechanics and Acoustics Laboratory (LMFA).
He is a recognized expert in the field of fluid dynamics and, more specifically, in the theoretical and numerical
studies of turbulence. After chairing the Scientific Board of the CNRS Department of Engineering Sciences from
2001 to 2005, he has been Dean of Research at École Centrale de Lyon since 2006. He has authored about fifty
peer-reviewed articles in international journals and more than 130 papers presented at conferences. He has
taught a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Claude Bernard University – Lyon-1, at École
nationale des travaux publics de l’État (ENTPE), and at École Centrale de Lyon.

Founder and President of Cathay Capital Private Equity
Ming-Po CAI is the Founder and President of Cathay Capital Private Equity, the leading global middle-market
private equity firm created by Entrepreneurs for Entrepreneurs and an expert in creating value through crossborder investment across China, Europe and North America. Cathay Capital, founded by Ming-Po CAI with his
business partner Edouard Moinet in 2006, is fully dedicated to helping its portfolio company management
teams to succeed beyond their original borders and to accelerate cross-border growth strategies by leveraging
its unique platform of local ecosystems on three continents – with offices currently located in Paris, Shanghai,
Beijing, New York and Germany – as well as its multicultural team of thirty investment professionals.
Under Ming-Po CAI’s leadership, Cathay Capital has grown to more than €1 billion in assets under management,
including the €150 million Sino-French Fund that was launched in 2012 with investments from the China

by Bpifrance and CDB Capital). In August 2015, Cathay Capital announced the launch of the Sino-French Innovation Fund, which is dedicated to

Mr. CAI brings more than 20 years of cross-border investment experience and deep expertise developing China-entry strategies for multinational

founded and managed several companies that operated in China and France in the industrial, distribution and textile sectors. He started his
career in the early 1990s developing the Chinese business of the SEB GROUP, the leading French electrical appliances manufacturer, and in 1998
created his first business, Stonest, which became a local market leader in less than 4 years under his management.
Ming-Po CAI is an independent director on the board of GL Events, a leading French event organization company, and director on the boards of
multiple portfolio companies including Poten Environment, Meinian Health 100 and ZBOM. In addition, he is member of the Honorary Committee
of Parsons The New School in Paris, the French campus of the prestigious New York arts and design school, and a member of the global business
leaders organization YPO. He is also a director on the boards of two foundations – France-Chine Entreprendre Fondation, which Cathay Capital
established in 2011, and the CEIBS Education Foundation.
Mr. CAI received a master’s degree in Management from EMLYON in France, and an EMBA from China Europe International Business School
(CEIBS) in Shanghai, China..
Michel Coster
Professor Entrepreneurship and Head of EMLYON Incubator
Launched in June 2008, the EMLYON Incubator accompanies currently 50 companies. Michel Coster is also
professor of Entrepreneurship at EMLYON. He is in charge of training for entrepreneurs, training director for
various programs. He is founder and the Head of the Entrepreneurship Specialized Master. He serves in the
board of several High Growth Companies. He has founded a consulting company acquired by Ernst & Young
where he was a Legal Adviser until 1998.
Education: Doctor of Specialized Studies in Finance and Taxation from the University of Grenoble, Research
Master of Advanced Studies in Company Law
Experience: Professor at EMLYON Business School and Head of Programme Specialized Master in Entrepreneurship,

Frank Debouck
Frank Debouck, diplômé de l’École Centrale de Lyon 1978, dirige l’École Centrale de Lyon depuis 2012. L’École
aujourd’hui, ce sont 1 200 étudiants-ingénieurs et 200 doctorants chaque année.
Avant de devenir Directeur de l’École Centrale de Lyon, Frank Debouck a réalisé une brillante carrière au sein
d’Air France. Entré en 1986 à la Direction Organisation et Développement, il devient Directeur Technique en
1988, poste qu’il occupera jusqu’en 1994, année où il devient Directeur Commercial. De 1999 à son départ en
2012, il a occupé le poste de Secrétaire Général.
Par ailleurs, il est intervenant régulier à l’École Centrale de Paris, CNAM, IFSI, IFURTA et EHESP. Il a parallèlement
rédigé ou contribué à de nombreux articles et ouvrages.
Patrick Dupuis
As Senior Vice President for Simplicity, Quality and Productivity, Patrick Dupuis is leading a corporate-wide
cultural and operational transformation to drive efficient growth across PayPal. Embracing the principles of
continuous improvement and lean management, Patrick’s role is to continuously identify and pursue opportunities
to simplify and optimize processes across the business. His focus is on improving PayPal’s customer experiences,
eliminating upstream cost drivers and delivering continuous productivity and re-investment capacity. Patrick’s
work allows PayPal the flexibility to invest in our market growth opportunities and assure that our operating
margins are stable to growing over the medium term.
Patrick joined PayPal in 2010 as Chief Financial Officer to help PayPal expand globally and build a sustainable
growth company. As CFO, Patrick was responsible for overall financial planning and management as well as
operational excellence. During his tenure at the company, on separate occasions, he stepped in as acting leader
of Asia, Europe and PayPal overall through 2 - 6 months transitions.
Patrick comes to PayPal after having spent over 20 years overseeing financial strategy at leading companies in a broad range of industries,
including health care (he was the CFO at both BJC Healthcare, one of the largest nonprofit health care organizations in the United States, and
GE Healthcare, a $10 billion division of GE), business process management (as vice president and general manager of GE Capital International
Services – now Genpact), and customer service (he is the former CFO of Sitel, an international call center outsourcing providers).
He graduated from the Ecole de Management de Lyon in France. A dual citizen of France and the United States, Patrick is married with two
children in and soon-to-be in college.
Nathalie HALLÉ
Nathalie Hallé is representative for Bpifrance USA and is based in New York.
She has a dual cultural background (French and Colombian) and grew up in an international environment:
Norway (4 years), Angola (3 years), Abu Dhabi (3 years) and United Kingdom (5 years). She graduated from
Grenoble Business School of Business in January 2015 and has a double master degree both achieved with
distinction (Finance and International Business). She has previously worked in various French companies in
Business Development area (Total, PSA Peugeot Citroën, BNP Paribas and L’Oréal).

Philippe MONIN
An alumnus from EMLYON Business (1991), Philippe MONIN is Associate Dean for Research at EMLYON Business
School since 2008. From 2011 to 2014, he was the TOUPARGEL Chair Professor in Strategic Management.
His publications in leading academic journals focus on three main fields: strategic management (mergers
and acquisitions), organizational theory (institutional theory) and international business development (with a
particular focus on China and India). Philippe Monin received the W. Richard Scott Distinguished Award for
Scholarly Contribution from the American Sociological Association in 2005 for his work on institutional change
in French gastronomy (American Journal of Sociology, 2003), as well as the SYNTEC-FNEGE prize in 2013 for his
publication on post-merger integration at Air France-KLM (Human Resource Management, 2010). His work has
appeared in as prestigious journals as American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Academy of
Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Human Resource Management or Organization Science
to name a few. He has published with more than 25 different authors, including a dozen graduate students –
according to him what truly matters..
Philippe MONIN is one of the editors of M@n@gement, likely the oldest international and free peer-reviewed journal in management science
worldwide. Philippe Monin was recently elected President of the Association Internationale de Management Stratégique (AIMS – The International
Association of Strategic Management). AIMS, the leading French-speaking professional association for research in management, strategy and
organization, aims to promote research in its field of specialization, disseminate research findings and support the professional development of
its members.
Philippe has lived several years in Scotland (Saint-Andrews), Germany (Berlin), the USA (Arizona), Canada (Montréal) and, when time permits,
likes to play chess.
Thibaut MUNIER
Chief Operating Officer of 1000mercis Group, Thibaut Munier is a graduate of Ecole Supérieure de Commerce
in Lyon, he has a Masters in Marketing and Strategy from the University of Paris Dauphine and an MBA from the
University of Austin, Texas, USA.
Previously in charge of clients data mining as head of Relationship Marketing R&D for Air France, he coordinated
from 1998 to 2000 the design and implementation of direct marketing campaigns conducted with members of
the programme «Fréquence Plus», both online and in traditional media. Specialist in quantitative marketing, he
also conducted research at the Marketing Research Center at the University Paris IX Dauphine and is the author
of several publications.
Thibaut Munier is a member of the «Conseil d’Administration de Renaissance Numérique».

Marc Onetto
Marc Onetto se consacre maintenant à partager son expérience avec des dirigeants d’entreprise et des
universitaires pour promouvoir les principes d’excellence en Opérations qu’il a appris et pratiqués au cours
de sa longue carrière. Il vient récemment d’être élu au conseil d’administration d’Essilor, société du CAC 40
leader mondial des verres ophtalmiques. Il exerce aussi des fonctions d’administrateur au sein du Conseil de
Flextronics Ltd, un leader mondial de $30 Milliard de chiffre d’affaires dans la fabrication et de la gestion de la
chaine d’approvisionnement de l’industrie électronique.
De 2006 à 2013 il a été « Senior Vice-President Worldwide Operations and Customer Service » de Amazon.
Amazon est le leader mondial du commerce internet avec un chiffre d’affaires de $80 Milliards, opérant des
sites e-commerce aux Etats-Unis, Canada, Royaume Uni, Allemagne, France, Italie, Espagne, Japon, Inde et
Chine et exportant dans la plus part des pays du monde. Ses responsabilités couvraient l’activité de plus de
100.000 personnes opérant une centaine de centres de distribution à travers le monde y compris 3 en France
et 25 centres d’appel clients.
Avant Amazon Marc a été de 2003 à 2006 « Executive Vice-President Worldwide Operations » pour Solectron,
un des leaders mondiaux de la fabrication électronique. Il a dirigé le turnaround de Solectron basé sur l’application intensive de six sigma et du
système de production Toyota. Marc est reconnu comme un des leaders mondiaux de l’application des techniques d’excellence en Opérations.
Avant de rejoindre Solectron Marc avait fait une brillante carrière à General Electric. Il fut un des rares « Officers » de GE d’origine française. Jack
Welch lui-même, dans son auto-biographie, a rendu hommage à la contribution de Marc à GE. A GE Marc a exercé de nombreuses fonctions dont
VP Operations Europe pour GE Corporate et VP Supply Chain pour GE Medical.
Marc est basé à Seattle dans le Nord-Ouest des Etats-Unis. Marc est ingénieur Ecole Centrale de Lyon (1973) et diplômé MBA de CarnegieMellon University. Marc est, avec Patrick Dupuis, ancien EMLYON, le co-président/fondateur de l’association américaine de soutien à l’alliance
ECL/EMLYON. Marc est « Conseiller du Commerce Extérieur de la France » et a été élu en 2002 « Executive of the year » par la chambre de
Commerce Franco-américaine de Chicago. Marc est Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite. Marc est un ardent amateur de vin de Bourgogne
et a contribué à la création à Seattle d’une sous-commanderie de la confrérie des chevaliers du Tastevin.
Michel-Louis Prost
Président de l’Alliance Science & Business CENTRALE LYON-EMLYON et Président de l’Association des
Centraliens de Lyon
Né à Nantes en France en 1952, Michel-Louis est Ingénieur de l’École Centrale de Lyon (1974). Capitaine de
Vaisseau de la Marine Nationale, il est Vice-Président Délégué du Conseil Economique, Social et Environnemental
Rhône-Alpes. Par ailleurs, il est Expert Judiciaire en Technologies Informatiques, et Administrateur de l’ADIRA
(Association pour le Développement de l’Informatique en Rhône-Alpes). Michel-Louis est marié et a 4 enfants.
Michel-Louis a réalisé sa carrière de cadre supérieur puis en tant que dirigeant en Systèmes d’Information,
en quatre périodes : Secteur Industriel (Rhône-Poulenc, cadre informatique) | Secteur du Conseil en Systèmes
d’Information (cabinet SCA Consult : directeur du cabinet de Nantes) | Secteur de la Banque (Caisse d’Epargne
Rhône-Alpes : DSI) | Secteur du négoce professionnel international (Descours & Cabaud : Corporate CIO).
Parallèlement, il assure de nombreuses missions pour la Marine Nationale Française. Actuellement adjoint
NCAGS (OTAN ) Amirauté Toulon.
Gary REINER
Gary Reiner joined GA (General Atlantic) in 2010, and supports the firm’s active value-added approach to
partnering with growth companies by providing strategic counsel to GA and its portfolio companies. He currently
serves on the board of CitiusTech, Box, Appirio, Mu Sigma and Amedes Group.
Mr. Reiner previously served as senior vice president and Chief Information Officer of GE, where he led M&A,
Sourcing, IT, Operations and Quality for the company. Prior to that, he was a partner with Boston Consulting
Group, where he drove strategies and operations improvements for high-technology businesses.
Mr. Reiner earned a B.A. in economics from Harvard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Jose Schulmann
Founder & Owner, ABO PHARMACEUTICALS
Né à Paris en 1946, Jose Schulmann est diplômé de Centrale Lyon, promotion 1970. Une fois le diplôme
en poche, Jose a pratiqué le métier d’ingénieur dans une grande société de traitement d’eau, une première
expérience intéressante.
Appelé au service militaire en 1971, Jose Schulmann crée dès 1972 sa première société dans le secteur de
l’électronique médicale, spécialisée en échographie médicale. Jose vend cette société en 1976 avant de partir
pour les États-Unis, à la recherche d’un lieu plus accueillant que la France pour les entrepreneurs. Pendant les
2 premières années à New York, Jose a travaillé en tant que conseiller aux entreprises françaises et comme
employé du bureau New Yorkais de la Banque Worms. En 1979, Jose crée la Société ABO dont l’objet fut d’abord
d’assister des sociétés françaises aux USA dans de multiples domaines tout en démarrant une activité dans
le domaine alors nouveau de la biotechnologie, alors spécialisée dans la distribution de matières premières,
plasma humain et dérivés du plasma humain.
Aujourd’hui à San Diego, ABO Pharmaceuticals distribue mondialement des produits plasmatiques à usage thérapeutique et diagnostique,
ainsi que du plasma humain, des vaccins et les premiers produits transgéniques à usage thérapeutique fabriqués par une organisation francoaméricaine licenciés aux USA et en Europe. Projets en cours : production de certains dérivés plasmatiques et d’antidotes sous licence.
Marie-Hélène Steinman
Marie-Hélène Steinman is currently Senior Vice President - Investments with Merrill Lynch Private Wealth
Management, based in Los Angeles.
Merrill Lynch Private Wealth management is a division of Bank of America, and specializes in Wealth and
Investment Strategies to accumulate, preserve and transfer Wealth. Prior to Merrill Lynch, Marie-Hélène spent
10 years at UBS Financial Services, as Senior Vice President – Wealth Management based in Los Angeles,
being recognized by Barron’s magazine as among the Top Women Financial Advisors in the US – Women Cicrcle
of Excellence. After graduating with an MBA in Economics and Finance from EMLYON in 1995, Marie-Hélène
started her carrer as an Analyst for the Lloyd’s Bank in London. She then spent 10 years at Air France, starting in
Corporate Finance in Paris, reporting to the CEO, working on the initial public offering of Air France, promoted as
Project Manager to increase the productivity of the Air France fleet, rapidly promoted as Commercial Manager
USA, and finally promoted as Managing Director – Air France Switzerland, based in Geneva.
Marie-Hélène Steinman is currently serving on 3 boards: Friends of Sheba Medical Center, the US foundation of the largest hospital in the Middle
East. The Rod Dixon Kids marathon foundation, a non-profit promoting fitness among low income family. Foundation Friends of Alliance ECL EML,
an education based foundation, as Trustee, board member and President of the Advisory board. Marie-Hélène Steinman is regularly invited to
speak on Finance & Investments by the City of Los Angeles, and the Directors Guild of America.
