Adel Bishtawi releases second in Book of Origins series
Celebrated author investigates prehistoric origin of Semitic languages
PEMBROKE, Malta – Adel Bishtawi has had an amazing career as a journalist, novelist and historian. He has
interviewed some of the biggest politicians of the later 20th century, including Margaret Thatcher, Indira Ghandi and
Afghani president Hafizullah Amin, just before his execution.
Now Bishtawi has released the second in his Book of Origins series, “Origin of “Semitic” Languages” (published by
AuthorHouse), which covers the beginnings and evolution of Semitic languages in Middle Eastern and other
countries.
“The origin of Semitic languages may be also the origin of human language,” says Bishtawi, “and that the proper
analysis of ancient roots may reveal the ancient history of the primitive societies and the history of civilization.
Those who claimed that etymology is history may be right.”
The book covers the origin of Arabic as well as Assyrian and Hebrew. Bishtawi argues that as languages began to
evolve and change, civilizations began to evolve as well. Important words and concepts such as love, hate and god
have their origins in Arabic and have shaped how humans develop. Bishtawi believes, “It is also possible that the
development of language played a major role in the development of human consciousness.”

About the Author
Adel S. Bishtawi was born in Nazareth in 1945. He co-founded two newspapers in London and became managing
editor of the Emirates News Agency in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He was a production assistant for a
number of TV documentaries and later produced, directed and wrote “Muslims along the Silk Road.” He has
