Hong Kong, December 12, 2006 – Sony Corporation of Hong Kong Limited today expanded
its HDD/DVD recorder range with the addition of a new model with a large capacity hard disk
drive of 250GB. The RDR-HX1020 features a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)
port with 720p/1080i up-scaling capability. The versatile HDD/DVD recorder offers more
multimedia entertainment options with the capabilities of digital photo management and MP3
music jukebox.
The RDR-HX1020 is capable of recording up to 387 hours on the 250GB1 HDD (in SLP
mode). The HDD/DVD recorder delivers 720p/1080i high definition signals via the one-cable
HDMI for high definition digital video with superior high-resolution pictures and audio
streaming to other HDMI-equipped products such as BRAVIA high definition LCD
televisions.
The RDR-HX1020 allows users to save up to 13GB of multimedia contents in the hard disk
including 2,500 JPEG images and 3,000 MP3 sound tracks. With the digital photo
management function, users can transfer photos from their digital cameras or camcorders via
the USB interface to the hard disk. Having finished this process, users can add fun to photo
playback by choosing the “New Photomovie” function, then the recorder will add graphic
effects and music according to the theme set by users. They can also burn DVD disc with
photos transferred onto the HDD. The MP3 music jukebox function can transform the
HDD/DVD recorder into a personal music library. Users can simply browse the music library
with an on-screen graphic interface without using a PC or without connecting the digital
music player to the amplifier.
By connecting the HDD/DVD recorder with the newly launched LocationFree™, customers
can watch their favourable TV programmes or any contents recorded by the HDD/DVD

recorder from a notebook PC, desktop, PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system (software
version 2.70 or later)2 or a mobile phone3 with broadband Internet or WiFi from anywhere on
earth. They can also choose to program and record TV shows that can be played back at any
time they want.
The HDD/DVD recorder maintains the capability of recording with excellent picture quality
thanks to the HQ+ recording mode and several noise reduction features. Incorporating
Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) technology, component video output and video DAC of
12bit/108MHz, the HDD/DVD recorder ensures a stable and smooth moving picture. The
intelligent recording system encapsulates high performance recording features such as DV
terminal (i.LINK®) for one-touch dubbing, pause live TV, chasing playback, easy to use GUI
and HQ+ high quality recording mode for top picture quality.
In addition to HDD and DVD±RW/R, the new model can also record and play back DVD+R
Double Layer (DL) discs with a maximum of 8.5GB capacity allowing the viewer to store up
to 14 hours (in SEP Mode) of recordings on a DVD disc. Transferring camcorder recordings
for either copy or edit to DVD or hard disk drive is easy on the RDR-HX1020 by connecting a
camcorder via the i.LINK and using the one-touch dubbing function to copy the entire
contents of the tape using one-touch control or use the program edit function to select only
those scenes that are desired for automatic copying to DVD or hard disk drive.
