Annual Report 2014-2015
The Wainwright Committee for 2014-2015 was composed of Dean Daniel Jutras, Professor
Robert Godin, Assistant Dean Véronique Bélanger and Mtre Daniel Boyer as Chair.
In the course of the academic year 2014-2015, the Committee met on November 10th 2014 in
order to administer a budget arising from the legacy of the late Arnold Wainwright to promote
the teaching and research on Civil Law at McGill. The Wainwright capital fund is now valued at
approximately $1,500,000. The administration of the income from the Fund is governed by
guidelines established by the Committee in conformity with the terms of Mtre Arnold
Wainwright’s will. The forthcoming Wainwright Conference (see below) was planned as well.
The Wainwright Fund continued its financial support to the Faculty of Law as follows: A
Graduate Scholarships of $10,000 was awarded to Rung-Guang Lin; Undergraduate Scholarships
totalling $12,000 were shared equally by Samuel Blair, Cameron McKeich and Shang-Lynn
Yang. A Wainwright Essay Prize of $1,000 was awarded to David Wilband for his work titled :
« Civil Litigation as a Shield for Labour ». A financial grant for Civil Law teaching at the
Faculty of Law of approximately $50,000 contributed to the visit of Dr Giorgio Resta from the
University of Bari.
Comme à chaque année, le Comité Wainwright a permis la matérialisation du partenariat entre la
Faculté de droit et la bibliothèque de droit Nahum Gelber avec une contribution de 25 000$
destinée à l'enrichissement constant des fonds de la collection de droit civil de la bibliothèque
ainsi qu’à la préservation de la collection Olivier Martin.
Rappelons que depuis trois ans, Le Comité Wainwright délègue au vice-doyen à la recherche la
distribution des subventions pour la recherche en droit civil par les professeurs de la Faculté. Ces
subventions sont depuis attribuées selon les axes de recherche de la Faculté de droit.
Cette restructuration a favorisé une distribution plus équitable des fonds disponibles. Cette
année, un total de cinq subventions de recherche de 2 000$ chacune ont été allouées selon le
tableau suivant:

Research Handbook on Comparative Property Law
Le 19 février 2015, le Professeur Giorgio Resta a prononcé la 13ème conférence Wainwright.
Intitulée Les luttes de clocher en droit comparé, la conférence a présenté une étude des
différentes méthodes de droit comparé ainsi que leur histoire. Plus particulièrement, le Professeur
Resta s’est penché sur l’école de Sacco et, bien sur, sur celle du regretté Professeur H. Patrick
Glenn. La conférence fut suivie d’un mot de clôture de la présidente de l’Association québécoise
de droit comparé, la Professeure Nathalie Vézina de l’Université de Sherbrooke.
