Trust is very important in the education system. Every
single day, we ask parents to trust bus drivers to transport
their children safely to school and back, crossing guards
to ensure safety when crossing busy intersections,
custodians to make sure the building is a healthy
environment, teachers to provide an overall sound
education for their children, and administrators to keep
the system intact. Those involved in the education system
have the trust of the public - the taxpayers and electors.
This is proven daily. Parents trust that the decisions
being made with respect to the future of their children
are well thought-out, sound, and fair. We, provincial
government employees, put our trust in our employer;
our government representatives. Shouldn’t we be able
to trust that decisions made about our future are well
thought-out, sound, and fair as well?

In my opinion, the manner in which the Government
is choosing to address the issue of pension reform in the
public, rather than behind closed doors in a proactive
and collaborative manner is a huge breach of trust. It is a
demonstration that the Government is not truly willing
to listen to the concerns being presented as though the
decision has already been made. This is not in good faith,
or what was promised.

I trusted that the government would manage the
Teacher’s Pension plan with integrity and commitment
and treat teachers with respect. Alarming our members,
just before Christmas when people already have a
heightened awareness of finances, has forced me to have
an overwhelming sense of mistrust for my employer.
I feel absolute disrespect in the fact that our members
were specifically targeted before Christmas, which should
have been a time for unity, peace, and family. Instead,
Appendix B put all of us retirees and current employees in
a situation where our financial future was the main topic
of conversation. This was incredibly shameful on the part
of the government.
