Gllogoc/Glogovac 1. Area and Population The municipality of Gllogoc/Glogovac is located in central Kosovo. It covers an area of approximately 290 km² and includes Gllogoc/Glogovac town and 37 villages. The total population is approximately 60,000 (58,531 according to the Kosovo Population and Housing Census 2011) September 2015 MUNICIPAL PROFILE The OSCE regional centre Mitrovicë/Mitrovica covers nine (9) municipalities including Gllogoc/Glogovac and has field teams working in all of them. Ethnic composition 1. Kosovo Albanians: 58,445 2. Kosovo Bosniaks: 14 3. Kosovo Turks: 5 4. Kosovo Egyptians: 2 5. Kosovo Serbs: 2 6. Other: 22 7. Not specified: 41 (Source: Kosovo Agency of Statistics) Prior to the conflict, a small number of Kosovo Serbs lived in the municipality. They are since displaced. There is no available data on their whereabouts. 2. Governing Structures and Political Overview The total number of voters in Gllogoc/Glogovac municipality registered for the last municipal elections held in November 2013 was 50,079 including outof-Kosovo voters. The voter turnout was 48.3 per cent/24,171 voters (source: Central Election Commission). a. Legislative The Municipal Assembly has 31 seats distributed amongst eight (8) political entities; all 31 members are Kosovo Albanians while eight (8) are female. The municipal assembly chairperson is Naim Bazaj (PDK). b. Executive Structure of municipal executive and the executive’s political affiliations The municipality is headed by the mayor, Nexhat Demaku (PDK), and the deputy mayor, Arsim Haxhiu (PDK). It has ten (10) directorates and directors: general administration (PDK); health and social welfare (PDK); education (PDK); culture, youth and sport (PDK); budget and finance (PDK); cadastre, geodesy and property (PDK); public services and emergency (PDK); municipal inspection (PDK); urban planning and environmental protection (PDK); and agriculture and economic development (PDK). With the exception of the director of public services, all other municipal directors are male. (source: municipal website) 3. Judiciary The Prishtinë/Priština basic court has a branch in Gllogoc/Glogovac with six (6) judges, all Kosovo Albanian male (source: Kosovo Judicial Council). Security Presence The Kosovo Police station in Gllogoc/Glogovac municipality has 82 police officers; all of them are September 2015 MUNICIPAL PROFILE Gllogoc/Glogovac Kosovo Albanian, 11 are female. As for the international military presence, Finnish KFOR covers the area. 5. Economy The economy of the municipality of Gllogoc/Glogovac is mainly based on agriculture and small businesses. There are some 1,921 registered private businesses operating in the municipality. Some 4,800 people are employed in private sector in Gllogoc/Glogovac (source: municipal directorate for agriculture and economic development). 6. Public Services a. Infrastructure The overall status of infrastructure in the municipality of Gllogoc/Glogovac is assessed as good. All the main roads connecting major villages with the urban centre are asphalted. Gllogoc/Glogovac town is connected to water and sewage systems; 24 villages are connected to water supply system, while 15 are connected to sewage system. Power supply is still a problem especially in the villages (source: municipal director of urban planning and environmental protection). b. Health The primary health care system includes: one (1) primary health station, seven (7) family health centres, and five (5) centres for family medicine. The health sector has 214 employees, 113 female and 101 male, including doctors, nurses and support staff. Access: All residents have access to health care and health facilities (source: municipal directorate of health and social welfare). c. Education There are 29 primary schools with 10,932 pupils and 617 teachers; two (2) secondary schools with 3,197 students and 178 teachers; one (1) kindergarten with 72 children and 17 teachers (source: municipal directorate of education). 7. Religious and Cultural Sites Gllogoc/Glogovac has 15 mosques. Seven (7) of them were renovated after the 1999 conflict and eight (8) are newly built.
