KUWAIT
Kuwait is subjected to no specific threat, despite its neighbouring Iraq.
The country is seen as stable even though, over the last two years, there
have been protests over the modifications made to election laws and
arrests of prominent figures of opposition.
All countries participating to the coalition against ISIS in the regions are
targeted by the terrorist group for their involvement in Iraq and Syria.

In the entire Arabic peninsula, the terrorist risk is acute. Attacks have been known
to be planned and foiled in various countries of the region, targeting government
buildings, public places, touristic sites, worship places (especially at
Ramadan) or foreign assets (embassies…). Increased security a short notice
can be implemented.
Shiite minority is particularly targeted especially by ISIS branch in Saudi Arabia,
Nadj Province. High vigilance is recommended in Shiite regions. Two thirds of
residents are Sunni, one third Shi’a.
Politics & social
The emirate is a model for its democratic institutions and its active political life,
among the most advanced in the Arab world. However, regular dissensions
between the government and the parliament have deteriorated the political
climate. Besides, in 2012, just before general elections, Sheikh Sabah alAhmad
has modified the election code so to hinder opposition parties. Numerous
demonstrations were held to protest and elections boycott planned. The response
of the government was to condemn opposition leaders for insulting the Emir. More
demonstrations ensued that led to clashes with security forces. The regime
seems to have taken an authoritarian turn as repression is still on.
Kuwait is a country living off its petrol annuities. Citizens are 86% civil servants
and enjoy a whole array of benefits financed by the oil revenues. However, the
country took a major blow in 2009 when the crisis hit. Plummeting oil prices since
2014 may jeopardize the economic model of Kuwait.

Travel
continent indien.
