Japon. — Le 13 octobre, l’administration sanitaire du Japon a
notifié par télégramme un cas importé de choléra à Shimoda,
Comté de Kamo, Préfecture de Shizuoka. Le malade, un employé
japonais, âgé de 28 ans, était arrivé à Tokyo le 10 octobre à 0020
par Air India, vol No 106A venant de Bombay, via Calcutta,
Bangkok, Hong Kong. 11 avait quitté Nairobi et Mombasa le
7 octobre. La maladie a été rapportée le 11 octobre et le diagnostic
a été confirmé le 13 (El Tor Ogawa). Son domicile et les endroits où
il s’était rendu ont été désinfectés; les contacts sont examinés et
toutes les mesures de prévention sont prises.
Les pays d’escale ainsi que ceux de la région du Pacifique, ont
été prévenus par télégramme le 13 octobre. En outre, cette informa­
tion est diffusée dans le Bulletin épidémiologique radiotélégraphique
quotidien de l'O M S depuis le 14 octobre.
Japan. — On 13 October the health administration of Japan
reported by telegram one imported case of cholera in Shimoda
town, Kamo County, Shizuoka Prefecture. The patient, a Japa­
nese company clerk, aged 28, arrived at Tokyo on 10 October at
0020 by Air India flight No. 106A from Bombay, via Calcutta,
Bangkok, Hong Kong. He had left Nairobi and Mombasa on
7 October. The case was reported on 11 October and on 13 October
the diagnosis was confirmed (El Tor Ogawa). His home and the
places he visited were disinfected; contacts are bemg examined
and all preventive measures taken.
The countries in which the plane called and those in the Pacific
región were notified by cable on 13 October, and the information
was included in the WHO Daily Epidemiological Radiotélégraphie
Bulletin beginning 14 October.
Il est rappelé qu'aux termes du Règlement sanitaire international,
la ville de Shimoda ne saurait, en raison de ce cas importé, être
considérée comme une circonscription infectée de choléra.
It is recalled that under the provisions o f the International Sanitary
Regulations Shimoda may not be considered as a cholera infected
local area on the basis o f this one imported case.

Porto Rico. — Des cas d’affections d’allure grippale ont été
rapportés de plus en plus fréquemment à Porto Rico au cours des
six dernières semaines. L’épidémie, tout d’abord limitée à la région
de San Juan, atteint maintenant la plupart des secteurs de l’île.
Les examens préliminaires de souches de virus, isolées à partir
de prélèvements pharyngés effectués chez des cas aigüs, font penser
qu’ü s’agit du virus grippal A, probablement du sous-type A2.
Puerto Rico. — Cases of influenza-like illness have been reported
with increasing frequency over the past six weeks from Puerto Rico.
Initially confined to the San Juan area, the outbreak has now
spread to most sectors of the island.
Preliminary study of viruses isolated from throat washings
taken from acute cases suggest they may be influenza Virus A,
probably sub-type A2.
