1. INTRODUCTION
The Center for European Studies of the Université catholique de Louvain, the Leuven Centre
for Global Governance Studies of the University of Leuven, the College of Europe, the
Department of Political Sciences of Ghent University, the Department of Political Science of
the University of Liège, the Institute for European Studies of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel,
the Institute for European Studies of the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Institute for
European studies of Saint-Louis University organise an International Conference focused on
the relations between the European Union and emerging powers with regard to different
issues in economic, security, environmental and energy as well as human rights policy.
The Conference on “EU and Emerging Powers” will take place at the European Parliament
on 29 and 30 April 2013.

2. CONFERENCE LOGISTICS
Conference venue: European Parliament
Address: Rue Wiertz 60, 1047 Brussels, Belgium.
The Conference will be held at the European Parliament, which is located in the European
district in Brussels.
Upon entering the Parliament through its “Altiero Spinelli” gate (number 4 on the map below),
you will be guided to the conference rooms.
Working language
The working language of the Conference is English.

Internet services will be provided within the European Parliament facilities
Working modus for the sessions
The sessions will feature presentations by expert speakers, followed by a debate moderated
by a distinguished member of the advisory board. The working procedures are designed to
stimulate free-flowing discussions.
3. TRAVEL
Arrival and transport
Participants are requested to arrange their own travel itinerary to the Conference venue. The
organizers are not in the position to cover the travel costs.
By plane: From the Brussels International Airport:
 Train from the Airport (access from level -1) to the Central Station (BruxellesCentral/ Brussel-Centraal). At the station you have the following options:
- Take a second train stopping at the “Bruxelles-Luxembourg” station
located under the Parliament Esplanade (access located on the map above).
No extra ticket is needed but check the departure board in the “Bruxelles2

Central” station lobby. Trains stopping at the “Brussels-Luxembourg” Station go
to ‘’Namur/Luxembourg”, “Namur/Dinant” or “Louvain-la-Neuve Université”.
Take bus line 38 direction “Heros” for five stops to “Luxembourg” 3 minute
walk to the venue.
Take Metro line 1 direction “Stockel” or line 5 direction “Hermann Debroux” =>
Stop at “Maalbeek” Station  12 minute walk to the venue.
Take Metro line 1 direction “Stockel” or line 5 direction “Hermann Debroux” 
Change at “Art-Loi”  line 2 direction “Simonis (Leopold II)” or 6 direction “Roi
Baudouin/Koning Boudewijn”  stop at “Trône” Station  9 minute walk to the
venue.
Public transport - STIB (from the Airport to “Luxembourg”)
Take bus line 12 or 21 to “Luxembourg”  3 minute walk to the venue.

By train: From the Train Station:
 From Paris and London, arrival at “Midi Train Station”:
- Take bus line 27 direction “Andromede” for 11 stops to “Luxembourg”  3
minute walk to the venue.
- Metro line 2 or 6 direction “Simonis (Elisabeth)”  change at “Art-Loi”  line
1 direction “Stockel” or 5 direction “Hermann Debroux”  stop at “Maalbeek

From Central Station:

4. VISAS
Participants are responsible for obtaining all necessary visas to attend the Conference,
including any transit visa. The organisers will assist in this process, where necessary, by
sending an invitation letter to the participant. The organisers are, however, not in the position
to reimburse any costs which may be required in order to obtain the visa. In case you require
a visa, please contact Corentin Bastin as soon as possible at: [email protected].
Please note that applications for a Belgian visa (Schengen visa) may take up to 2
months to proceed.

5. ACCOMMODATION

The organizers of the Conference have reserved a limited number of rooms at reduced rates
