The Story: La Bohème tells a bittersweet tale of young love and loss set among the vibrant artists of the Latin
Quarter of Paris. The passionate music and powerful drama of Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece focus on the tender,
yet ill-fated attraction between Rodolfo, a poet, who resides in a cold-water garret with his rambunctious friends,
and Mimì, a seamstress who lives down the hall. Surrounded by the cheery hustle of the artists’ quarter, their
passion burns brightly for all too short a time.
L’histoire : Sur une musique évoquant la passion, La Bohème raconte l’histoire d'amour tourmentée qui unit deux
jeunes êtres évoluant dans l'effervescence artistique du Quartier Latin, à Paris. Ce chef-d’œuvre de Giacomo
Puccini met en scène Rodolfo, un poète partageant une mansarde froide et insalubre avec des amis turbulents, et
Mimi, une jeune couturière vivant sur le même palier, qui s’éprennent éperdument l’un de l’autre. Entre eux, le
feu de la passion se consume trop rapidement, dans le joyeux tumulte du milieu artistique.

Maestro Paterson was appointed OLO’s Artistic Director in 1998. Since then, the company has
experienced significant artistic growth and is now regarded as one of Canada’s leading opera companies.
He has performed throughout Europe, USA, Asia and Canada. Highlights include Rigoletto for Montreal
Opera; Salome for Manitoba Opera; Il Trovatore featuring Richard Margison; Medea at Il Teatro Greco
(Italy); Aïda for Nashville Opera; Don Giovanni for Hawaii Opera; Turandot for Vancouver Opera; Eugene
Onegin featuring Russell Braun; Lucia di Lammermoor featuring Sumi Jo; Prince Igor for National
Theater of Moravia–Silesia; Rigoletto for Opera Constanta (Romania); Tosca for Opern Air Festival (Austria); Jenůfa for
Hukvaldy Festival; Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle (Czech Republic); and Die Zauberflöte in Beijing.
Le maestro Tyrone Paterson a été nommé directeur artistique d’OLO en 1998. Depuis, la compagnie a beaucoup évolué sur le

JOHN PETER (JEEP) JEFFRIES – GENERAL DIRECTOR/DIRECTEUR GÉNÉRAL
Mr. Jeffries joined the company in July 2012. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of Tulsa
Opera from 2008 to 2011. He was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company business
operations, including marketing, fundraising and finance. From 2001 to 2008 he served as Executive
Director of Opera Grand Rapids in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There he helped retire the company’s
accumulated deficit and led the drive to construct a new permanent home for the company. Before
moving to Grand Rapids he was Managing Director of Opera Idaho, located in Boise. Prior to working
in Idaho, he served as Director of Production for the Portland Opera in Portland, Oregon (1996-2000)
where he managed all technical aspects of putting the company’s five-opera season on stage. Before
that he held a similar position with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto (1989-1996).
Avant de joindre les rangs de la compagnie, en juillet 2012, M. Jeffries était directeur exécutif de l’Opéra Tulsa (2008-2011). Il
était alors chargé de surveiller tous les aspects opérationnels de la compagnie, y compris le marketing, les activités de
