When possible, housing office staff tries to place students in their first choice. However, because of high demand, students may be nd rd placed in their 2 or 3 choice. Health Insurance Non-European students: French National Health Insurance (the sécurité sociale) is mandatory. With some exceptions, incoming students without European health insurance are required to enroll in the French national health insurance plan for students at the time of registration. The cost is st st about 215€, and covers the period from October 1 - September 31 . Students are strongly encouraged to verify that their home insurance st covers the period before October 1 . Pro-rating is not available for shorter stays. Exceptions: Students from Quebec with the form RAMQ do not need to enroll in the sécurité sociale. Students staying less than 90 days are not considered residents, and do not need to enroll. Students 28 years of age or older cannot enroll in the sécurité sociale. Students in these cases may be able to enroll in the French national health care system should they so desire. Such students should speak with a university staff member when they arrive. Please note: emergency medical evacuation is not covered by the sécurité sociale. Students are strongly encouraged to verify that their home insurance covers this eventuality.
