Candidates should perform two different pieces: one for ‘Individual Performance’/
‘Technology-based Performance’ and one for ‘Group Performance’.
Performances must be submitted on CD or mini-disc.
A copy of the music for each of the performances should be submitted with the recordings
and Candidate Record Form (CRF). Where there is no music copy a clear annotation
should be provided in the form of a written account of the piece, a graphic score, or a lead
sheet, so that the nature of the work to be interpreted is clear. If none of these is available,
an original CD recording of the piece performed should be submitted instead.
Recording and assessment of performances may take place at any time during the course.
Performances may be re-recorded as many times as necessary.
Assessments must always be made live.
Please ensure that the candidate’s part is clearly audible on the recording.
CDs must play on any standard CD player and mini-disc recordings must be made at
standard speed, not long play.
Wherever possible please submit recordings of candidates’ compositions on a composite
CD or mini-disc. A track list must be included and all CDs/mini-discs must be labelled as
described below.
Announcements on CDs/mini-discs are not necessary provided that the recordings are
clearly labelled and a track list is provided.
Please write the track numbers on the CRF.
Please ensure that everything is clearly labelled and packaged as follows:
(i)
the unit number (42703), centre number and candidate number must be written
on all materials, and pages must be firmly attached in the right order
(ii) please attach scores securely to the CRFs or place them, with the CRF, in a thin
plastic wallet (please do not use bulky folders or binding)
(iii) composite CDs should be placed in an envelope and attached to the first candidate’s
CRF
(iv) CDs are best sent in plastic or paper envelopes
(v) please label the CD itself, and not just the envelope, with the year, unit number
and centre number (and the candidate number if not sending a composite CD).
Centres are advised to retain duplicates of all compositions and recordings in case of loss
or damage. Moderators will return photocopied music and recordings to centres after
the moderation period. Centres are asked to destroy these as soon as they are no
longer required for the purpose of assessing a candidate’s performance or reviewing
the assessment of that performance. This is a requirement under the terms of the
agreement between the Music Publishers Association and the awarding bodies.
Please ensure that all Candidate Record Forms, the Centre Declaration Sheet and
appropriate copies of the Centre Mark Sheet/EDI printout are fully completed and enclosed.
Submissions must reach the moderator by 7 May.
