WELCOME TO THE GALA
Welcome to the tenth annual Gala of the Lycée Français de New
York. Thank you for joining us tonight as we support “Celebrating
Creativity,” advancing the mission at the LFNY which invests in
our children’s inspired world of tomorrow.
The 2009 Gala is a perfect illustration of our dedication to
provide the best possible education to our students through a
multilingual and multicultural environment where the unique
concern for a child’s creative development is blended with the
best of the rigorous academic system through diversity, cultural
awareness, and preparation of tomorrow’s global leaders.
Tonight, we will honor Mr. Sidney Toledano, President and Chief
Executive Officer of Christian Dior Couture, with the Charles de
Ferry de Fontnouvelle award for his significant contributions to
the Lycée Français de New York and to the French-American
community. As a leader in the world of fashion, Mr. Toledano’s
boundless commitment for advancing creativity has brought
international success to the LVMH group and has put Christian
Dior Couture among the most famous fashion houses in the
luxury sector.
On behalf of the Lycée Français de New York community,
we would like to thank Sidney Toledano for supporting our
school as we continue to grow with over 1,375 students and
50 different nationalities.
We would also like to thank our Gala Co-Chairs: Beatrice Del
Favero, Ginevra Caltagirone Guarducci, Charlotte Sarkozy, Olivier
Sarkozy and their Committee for their dedication and hard work
in making the 2009 Gala a truly spectacular event.

Bienvenue au Gala du Lycée Français de New York. Merci d’être
présent ce soir pour « Celebrating Creativity », la 10ème édition du
Gala annuel de notre école.
Cette soirée se veut l’illustration de notre engagement à offrir
à nos élèves la meilleure des éducations, une éducation portée
par le multilinguisme et par un environnement multiculturel,
qui encourage, chaque jour, chez eux, le développement de la
créativité au contact de la diversité culturelle et de standards
académiques rigoureux.
Ce soir, nous remettons à Monsieur Sidney Toledano, Présidentdirecteur général de Christian Dior Couture, le Prix Charles
de Ferry de Fontnouvelle, et rendons ainsi hommage à son
engagement auprès du Lycée Français de New York et de la
communauté franco-américaine dans son ensemble. Personnalité
éminente du monde de la haute-couture, qui s’est consacrée de
façon déterminante à soutenir la créativité, Monsieur Toledano est
un acteur clé de la renommée planétaire du groupe LVMH et de la
maison Christian Dior Couture.
Au nom de la communauté du Lycée Français de New York, nous
voudrions le remercier de tout coeur pour le soutien dont il fait
montre à l’égard de notre école, alors que celle-ci poursuit son
expansion, accueillant cette année plus de 1375 élèves et 50
nationalités différentes.

SIDNEY TOLEDANO
OUR HONOREE
Sidney Toledano, born in Casablanca in Morocco in 1951, is an engineering
graduate of the Ecole Centrale of Paris. He also holds a Masters degree in
Mathematics. He married in 1981 and is the father of three children.
Sidney Toledano est né à Casablanca au Maroc en 1951. Diplômé de l’Ecole
Centrale de Paris, il est également titulaire d’un Master en mathématiques.
Marié en 1981, il est père de trois enfants.
After a first experience as a Marketing Consultant at NIELSEN INTERNATIONAL
he joined KICKERS as General Secretary in 1982. He continued his carrier
at LANCEL where he was nominated Managing Director in 1984. He
supervised product development and redynamised the label greatly increasing
LANCEL’s sales.
Après une première expérience en tant que Consultant Marketing chez NIELSEN
INTERNATIONAL, il rejoint KICKERS au poste de Secrétaire Général en 1982.
Il poursuit sa carrière chez LANCEL, où il est nommé Directeur Général en
1984 : il y supervise le développement des produits et redynamise la marque,
permettant une forte croissance des ventes.
In March 1994, Sidney Toledano joined the Christian Dior Couture Fashion
House as Director of the Leather Goods Division. He brought world-wide
success to the brand with the launch of the Lady Dior bag in 1995. He
was promoted to Managing Director in charge of international development in
January 1996.
En mars 1994, Sidney Toledano rejoint la Maison Christian Dior Couture en tant
que Directeur de la Division Cuir. Il donne une véritable impulsion à la Maison
avec le lancement du sac Lady Dior en 1995. Il est nommé Directeur Général
en charge du développement international en janvier 1996.
Appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of Christian Dior Couture
in 1998 he continued to develop the group and put Christian Dior Couture
amongst the most famous fashion houses in the luxury sector.
He works in very close collaboration with John Galliano, the Artistic Director
of Haute Couture, Women ready-to-wear and Accessories on the collections to
develop the lines and products.
He also participates in choosing and nominating designers such as Victoire de
Castellane, Designer of Christian Dior’s fine jewelry in 1998 and Hedi Slimane,
then Kris Van Assche, Artistic Directors of Dior Homme.
He is particularly committed to the international expansion of the network of
boutiques which has grown from 6 in 1994 to the current 236 of today.
In addition to his role at Christian Dior Couture, Sidney Toledano is also
President of the company John Galliano, Chairman of the Board of Directors of
Fendi International S.A., President of Fendi France as well as Chief Executive
Officer and Director of the Holding Christian Dior S.A.

The Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle Award was named after Count
Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle, founding president of the Lycée
Français de New York. This award was established eight years ago to
honor those individuals who have made significant contributions to the
French-American community.

Lycée Français de New York
Count Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle was born in 1877 on the Ile
d’Oléron. A French citizen, he always felt a special affinity for the
United States where he spent numerous years with the French Foreign
Service, as Consul in Chicago and Consul General in New York. During
this period C. de Ferry de Fontnouvelle contributed to the FrenchAmerican community in an exemplary manner, establishing the Lycée
Français de New York and becoming its first President, and serving in
that capacity until his death in 1956. C. de Ferry de Fontnouvelle was
an Officier de la Légion d’Honneur, a past President of the New York
Society of Foreign Consuls, and an honorary member of the New York
Society of the Cincinnati Diplomats.
Le Trophée Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle porte le nom du
président fondateur du Lycée. Il a été créé il ya huit ans et
récompense les individus qui ont contribué de manière significative
à la communauté franco-américaine de New York.
Le comte Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle naquit à l’Ile d’Oléron en
1877. Citoyen français, il ressentit toujours une affinité particulière
pour les Etats-Unis où il passa de nombreuses années, en tant que
Consul à Chicago et Consul général à New York. Durant cette période,
Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle contribua de manière spectaculaire à
la communauté franco-américaine en fondant le Lycée Français, dont
il devint le premier Président du Conseil d’Administration, poste qu’il
occupa jusqu’à sa mort en 1956.
Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle était Officier de la Légion d’Honneur,
il fut Président de la société new yorkaise des Consuls Etrangers,
ainsi que l’un des membres honoraires de la société new yorkaise des
Diplomates de Cincinnati.
